I know. This is simply a lowlife using their 1st ammendment rights. Yet again. But I am still PISSED-OFF! :fire:

http://www.startribune.com/462/story/266514.html

On her way into the church where the funeral was to be held for her 23-year-old son Thursday morning, Deirdre Ostlund approached six men and women waving signs against gays and America and told them in a cold fury: "I'm Andrew's mother, and I want you to know you are truly hateful people."

As Ostlund turned away, Shirley Phelps-Roper taunted her: "Adulterer! You can't admit you sent your own child to hell! If she does not heed this warning, she will look up from hell with him."
It's just too bad that there's no practical way for somebody to convince a jury that they felt that their life was in danger when they heard this a$$hat talking to the mother of a fallen soldier in that way.

Another example of why some laws are worthless. I would not stand for it - someone's chicklets would be on the ground. Who can defend the actions of these people?

I think you should re-word your title. It was not gay protestors. It was anti-gay protestors. They were staight christian men and women who hate gays and said god was killing American soilders because America embraces homosexuality. your title makes it seem like gay men and women where taunting the mother.

Pauli,

They believe that anyone outside of their church is not "anti-gay enough", and therefore a supporter.

They are very hateful, and I consider them to be the lowest of the lows.

What laws are you referring to? The First Amendment?

I would never defend what they are saying. I would, however, defend their right to say it.

I'm sure someone could make a case for temporary insanity for pounding a few of them into dust :fire: (especially if related to the dead soldier).

Frankly I'm amazed that it hasn't happened already.

Thanks for the title edit.
What can I say? You were right.

It's the type of mistake I make when I'm so pissed that I can feel my pulse in my eyeballs.

Protesting at funerals is a bad thing, mmmkay?

Tell Jimmy Carter,
Also I don't think it fair to call these protestors Christian, as what they are doing sounds decidly unCristian.

I am suprised this kind of stuff has not turned ultraviolent yet, too. It is an exercise in how much jackassery can be committed without anyone doing anything about it.

 What evil lives in a person like that, it is almost unimagineable if it didnt really happen.

The leader of this august group of mopes says he is an attorney and claims to be "licking his chops" at the chance to sue someone in the states that are working on laws making demonstrations at funerals illegal - one of which is Ohio.

He better hope he doesn't get me on his jury.

I'd fight for the right of anyone to excersise their free speech rights.

In fact, I'd fight personally for these disgusting, hateful people, if anyone denied their right to free speech.

I'd love to do it personally, because after their free speech took place, I could punch each of them, individually, in the brain. :cuss: :fire:

Trust one of our own to say "But Carter said bad things at funerals, so Fred Phelps is just fine."

Former President Carter never disrupted funerals by screaming abuse at the family of the deceased. At worst he made a political statement, not terribly unwelcome by the participants, that you happen to disagree with. If you excuse the second you have to excuse the first. If you damn the first you have to be equally harsh on the second, assuming that you believe that logic and reason are good things.

These G-d-fearing Christian folk have made a career out of disrupting funerals of anyone who isn't as vile and hate-filled as they are, abusing the grief-stricken and insulting the deceased. They are lower than whale dung. It is a testament to the restraint of most people that nobody has stomped a mudhole in their sorry carcasses.

Father Knows Best...

Yup. I defend their right to say it. Hell, I did, but I also assert my right to civil disobediance. There is such a thing as common decency and common sense goes a long way. If every time these pukes pulled that crap one or two of them got de-toothed, they'd either give the BS up or show up at every future funeral looking like jack-o-lanterns and lisping out their vitriol. Some things are worth going to jail over.

Everybody says they would do something about it but nobody does. that is except Michael Moore. He showed up trying to interview Fred, the patriarch of the Phelps clan, and Fred just fed him the same old fire and brimstone idiocy. So Michael brought in a busload of gay men, each man stationed himself at a buswindow and at a signal from Michael each man dropped his pants and mooned the whole Phelps clan. The whole clan, including Fred, vacated soon afterward. I don't really like Michael Moore, but so far he's the only one with guts enough to put these morons down.

jondar...

There is a group of Bikers following these discarded condoms around to different funerals and shouting them down, so to speak. I don't have the lonk handy, but I'll dig it up.

Hmmm, Fred Phelps and Michael Moore in the same place at the same time, where's a JDAM bomb when you need one?

The group of bikers you are refferring to are called the Patriot Guard. Here is a link to their home page:

I first heard about them on a couple of bike forums I'm on. Really stand up guys in my mind. They've been riding all over the country (Even in the winter cold) and attending funerals of veterans, and out doing these jokers. :)

They're not shouting them down.

From their Mission Statement:

Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives.

1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.

2. Shield the mourning family and friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.

We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.

They just park themselves between Phred Phelps' group of jackasses and the grieving family, so that the family can't see the jackasses.

And when the jackasses attempt to shout slogans past the bikers, they rev their engines and drown out the shouts and the songs.

Go to their Forum and read some of their Mission Complete Reports. Some of them will bring a tear to your eye.

Yes Law Dog, I know what they're doing. I call that shouting them down.
