The Guess Who, "Guns, Guns, Guns"... anti-gun, anti-hunting, and anti-American.

Guns, Guns, Guns
The Guess Who
Written by Burton Cummings

American hunter, bring 'em up the north side
Guns, guns, guns
Run, take the money, here's a bullet for your boyfriend
Guns, guns, guns
Eagle all gone, and no more caribou
Guns, guns, guns
You be the red king, I'll be the yellow pawn

God speed Mother Nature
Never really wanted to say good-bye
God speed Mother Nature, you know that I'm callin' you now
Never really wanted to say good-bye
God speed Mother Nature
Never really wanted to say good-bye
God speed Mother Nature
Never really wanted to say good-bye

Shoot a few, knock 'em down, cost you half a buck now
Guns, guns, guns
Babe give you kisses if you hit a rubber duck now
Guns, guns, guns
You be the red king, I'll be the yellow pawn
Guns, guns, guns
Eagle all gone, and no more caribou
Guns, guns, guns
Eagle all gone, and no more caribou
Guns, guns, guns
No more
Eagle all gone, and no more caribou

God speed Mother Nature
Never really wanted to say good-bye
God speed Mother Nature, I'm weepin', I'm cryin' for ya
Never really wanted to say good-bye
God speed Mother Nature, ya know that I'm weepin' for ya
Never really wanted to say good-bye
God speed Mother Nature, and I'm cryin' out
Never really wanted to say good-bye
I know you're goin' and I'm weepin' Nature, weepin' Mother Nature
Never really wanted to say good-bye, and I'm weepin' for ya
Weepin' for ya Mother Nature, and I'm cryin' for ya
Never really wanted to say good-bye
Take care of me lovin' Mother, Mother Nature, and I'm missin' ya
Never really wanted to say good-bye
Where've you gone?
God speed Mother Nature, and I'm weepin' for ya

American Head Charge is pro gun, at least they were if they are still around.

Actually I think there are a fair amount of Metal Bands that are pro gun.

Alot of rappers do like guns and their lyrics indicate a pretty decent knowlege of them. Rappers tend to reference far nicer toys than you actually see street gangs using.

Rollins is a fraud. I also remember him back during his Black Flag days. Then he decided that life was funner making movies and being loved by the so-called Mainstream.

He is a big old boy. Lots of gym time, but I'd like to see those biceps stop a 45 fired by a 150 lb "whimp". Which, of course, is why he dosen't like guns.

Henry Rollins saw his best friend shot dead in a robbery in 1991. I think he drew the wrong conclusion from that experience, but I would cut him some slack for that one.

"Guns are for p*ssies" - 311 (I actually liked their music, but then I grew up and realized that the're abunch of pencilneck potheads)

"Don't Take Your Guns to Town" - Johnny Cash (kinda anti, I guess)

I'll try to think of more... it's late.

Has Henry Rollins said anything regarding gun control specifically? I'm a fan of Black Flag, and would like to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's possible that the gun thing is out of context. The punk scene was very violent back then, not usually life threatening or anything, but some people were occasionally shot. In a subculture where fighting is common, the guy who can't take it and decides to shoot someone would be viewed much the same as a school shooter. I can see how in that context using a gun could be seen as weak. It really depends on if he was speaking about guns in general, or only the criminal use of them.

I'm surprised that nobody has brought up Ted Nugent yet...

Interesting thread. As a musician, this gives me something to both ponder and research a bit.

I just had to add that I really don't care for country music, but I think that (**stereotype alert**) due to the demographics of country musicians, they tend to be more pro gun than most other genres.

Except for Sheryl Crow and her ilk.

XTC's "Melt the Guns" would qualify as an anti-gun tune. I like XTC well enough to forgive them for it-- after all, they're English, they don't know any better. ;-)

Umm, Sheryl Crow is a pop singer. Hmm, so is Shania Twain, I don't know what point I'm trying to make...

Sheryl Crow is mostly a pop singer, but she tried to jump on the Country wagon, a lot like Kid Rock. I have no hard evidence, but demographically I would guess that most Country artists are either pro-gun or at least neutral.

Shania Twain can sing anything she wants as long as she's on the CD cover.

As far as pro-gun musicians go, there is also Poker Face. I really like a lot of their older stuff, although the newer stuff can be a bit extreme. They are definitely still pro-gun, though.

Just about every rap song has song kind of firearms reference.
I don't know if they are trying to convey a pro-gun message or I am a bully with a gun message. And I don't think there are too many of them that we want representing the pro-gun side of the argument.

I don't listen to a lot of rap but it doesn't have a real good reputation for conveying positive messages.

I know what you mean, but I listen to A LOT of rap and what's funny is some of the stuff in rap music makes me think of stuff I hear on gun boards. Rappers seem to have a fascination with always carrying a gun for self-defense, they dont like cops, they distrust the gov't, etc.

For example:

Im paranoid, sleeping with my finger on the trigger - Scarface

Hope you got your gat, don't let them catch you slippin, without yours, it's warfare outdoors.. - Hittman

Five in the mornin, burglars at my door, Glock forty-five in my dresser drawer, Let em come in, *BOOM*, he see the thunder roll.. -Defari

You better use that Nina 'cause that deuce-deuce aint no good - Spice 1

You can't walk through the [Long] Beach unless you walk with a piece, You can't talk to police 'cause most police is like me, They get that cheddar like they want it, take your s** in the street
You can't walk in them streets unless you walk with your vest, You can't talk to police 'cause most police ain't gon' stress - Snoop Dogg

C 130 airborne soldier coming from tha sky, Recognize ground troops rollin just like HEMTT tires, I think I'm a Road March, so save ya breath, if I don't get cha with tha rifle I'm a catch cha with my bayonet -- Mystikal

Pretty much the same lessons I'vd learn on gun boards are the intraweb :)

We ride around with guns the size of Lil' Bow Wow

Equipped with night vision, shell catchers, and inf-beams huh? -- 50 Cent

rap music lol :)

John Popper from Blues Traveler is pro-gun.

From theadvocates.org:

Popper has also been willing to publicly take libertarian stands on controversial issues. For example, www.BluesTraveler.net notes: "Popper is widely known as a gun-rights advocate." In a 1997 interview in Rolling Stone, Popper said he supported the repeal of most gun laws. In an interview on Launch Music On Yahoo (October 10, 1997), Popper said he collected "firearms and swords" as a hobby, and said he loved the "aesthetic of weaponry" because they were "designed to be life-savingly efficient." In May 1999, Popper defended Second Amendment rights on MTV's Point Blank, a round-table discussion about gun control.
