"Back In The saddle Again"
Gene Autry
Riding the range once more, toting my old .44

"Pistol Packin' Mama" - Dexter

Oh, lay that pistol down, babe
Lay that pistol down
Pistol packin' mama
Lay that pistol down

Oh, I see you every night, Bing
And I'm near you every day
I'll be your regular mama
And I'll put that gun away

Oh, lay that pistol down, babe
Lay that pistol down
Pistol packin' mama
Lay that pistol down

Johnny Cash - "Don't take your gun to town"

Cher "My Baby shot me Down"

Actual good musical songs ;)
A second vote for Allen Wayne Damron. My fav of his is "Come to the Bower", about the Battle of San Jacinto.

"LA County" by Lyle Lovett. How not to deal with a relationship ending.
...And they kissed each other
And they turned around
And they saw me standing in the aisle
Well I did not say much
I just stood there watching
As that .45 told them goodbye

"My Little Armalite" - I have a recording by The Irish Brigade, but I'm not sure who wrote it originally. A good tune.
"And it's down in the Bogside, that's where I long to be,
Lying in the dark with a Provo company,
A comrade on me left and another on me right
And a clip of ammunition for my little Armalite.

I was stopped by a soldier, said he, You are a swine,
He beat me with his baton and he kicked me in the groin,
I bowed and I scraped, sure me manners were polite
But all the time I'm thinking of me little Armalite.
~~~
Sure a brave RUC man came up into our street
Six hundred British soldiers were gathered round his feet
Come out, ye cowardly Fenians, said he, come out and fight.
But he cried, I'm only joking, when he heard the Armalite.
~~~
Sure, the army came to visit me, 'twas in the early hours,
With Saladins and Saracens and Ferret armoured cars
They thought they had me cornered, but I gave them all a fright
With the armour piercing bullets of my little Armalite.
~~~
When Tuzo came to Belfast, he said, The battle's won,
Said General Ford, We're winning sir, we have them on the run.
But corporals and privates on patrol at night,
Said, Send for reinforcements, it's the bloody Armalite.
Not so good songs:
"One Son-Of-A-Gun Of A Gun", a song about AR15s by SSgt Barry Saddler.
"Armalite Rifle" by Gang of Four
Maybe it is context rather than content, but my favorite is "Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darling".
Robert Johnson's .32-20 Blues (especially as performed by Paul Rishell)
Hotter Than A Pistol by Speedy West & Jimmy Bryant
Pistol Packin' Mama as recorded by Boxcar Willie
Lloyd Price's Stagger Lee (a really good version was recorded by The Fabulous Thunderbirds)
If anyone would like to hear these just PM me.
The Clash:
When they come kickin' at your door,
how you gonna come -
With your hands upon your head,
or on the triggers of your gun?
Grand Funk Railroad - "Don't Let 'em take your gun"
Ohhh, people why don't you come in here and let me talk to you a while.
That's right, step right up and listen to a concerned citizen speak his piece.
I'll tell you a little something that my daddy told to me.
My basic fundamentals if you want to be free.
'Cause son, there's somthing wrong internally.
So, if you want your freedom son.
Don't want your country to be overrun.
You got to keep America number one.
(CHORUS)
My daddy told me "Son, don't let 'em take your gun.
That's what they tryin' to do.
Son, don't let 'em take your gun.
They're takin' your Bill of Rights away from you."
My daddy said "Son, don't let 'em take your gun.
That's what they tryin' to do.
Son, don't let 'em take your gun.
Don't let 'em take your gun away from you."
Ohhh, this year is our anniversary.
Two hundred years, people we've been free.
Won't be nobody takin' over our land.
If everybody's brother's got a gun in his hand.
I'm tellin' you we learned to fight for justice.
We're willing to die for freedom.
Hand in hand.
You got to understand.
We are American men.
Said they want your gun.
Said they want your gun.
Send 'em on the run.
Send 'em on the run.
Hip-hurray for fun.
Hip-hurray for fun.
If they do we're done.
If they do we're done.
Just to clarify something,
Ms. Crow is absolutely anti and is not referencing a hand gun. She is in fact referring to a hard vinyl disc about 6 inches across that we used to listen to on a thing called a record player. :D It played LPs at speeds of 78 or 45 RPMs thus the term "45" and album, older ones were even "33s".
Record player.... Record Player... I think I saw one of those in the Smithsonian last time I was there. If I remember correctly, it was in the same building that has the dinosaurs......
:D
"Too Many Guns" by They Eat Their Own (from their 1990 album They Eat Their Own).
There are people
Who will kill you
For no reason
Just for fun
It's so easy
It's so easy
It's so easy
To get a gun
And shoot someone!
There are places
You can practice
Shooting targets
In the heart
It's so easy
It's so easy
It's so easy
Like shooting darts
This human hunt!
chorus
Too many guns in America
Too many guns in America
Too many guns in America
Too many guns in America
Many people
Blow their brians out
Kill their spouses
And children too
Many people
Think their weapon
Will protect them
Or make them cool
Who's fooling who?
chorus
Too many guns in America
Too many guns in America
Too many guns in America
Too many guns in America
D.I. Guns
Weapons, weapons, weapons
M-16's, and 45's they help your country stay alive
They got the guns but we got the trigger
That gun of mine make me feel a whole lot bigger
Social dogma you think you're safe
I think I'm losing my mind
Deal with reality deal with facts
I've got'em shooting at me I'm gonna shoot back
Cuz I like guns and guns like me
I like guns they made America free
I like guns and guns are the way
I like guns
So your lost in your lost world
With my own weapon I'd rather be dead
People on the streets getting shot every hour
That's what Tawny Schnieder said
Time to look out your front door
Blow that sucker right on the floor
Load your gun and let him have it
The right to bear arms the right to be free
Cuz I like guns and guns like me
I like guns they made America free
I like guns and guns are the way
I like guns
Weapons, weapons, weapons - GO!
People on the street you think you're safe
There little guns all over the place
They'll take our toys and the government'll have them
It's time to not let them oppress you
Time to force your life on them
Tell 'em the way cuz you know it
Tell 'em the way cuz that's your right
I like guns and guns like me
I like guns they made America free
I like guns and guns are the way
I like guns
Remember
The right to bare arms
The right to bear arms
The right to bear arms
The right to bear arms
The right to bear arms
The right to bear arms
The right to bear arms
They'll wind up coming to get you
How about "Stagger Lee"?
Stagger Lee went home
and got his .44
...
Stagger Lee shot Billy
Shot that poor boy so bad
The bullet went through Billy
And broke the bartender's glass
(Or something like that - it's been a long time)
"Me and a Gun" by Tori Amos from her 1992 album Little Earthquakes.
Available in Real Player (or whatever they call it nowadays) format: http://mfile.akamai.com/9139/rm/str..._amos/littleearthquakes/meandagun-rm-full.ram
5am friday morning thursday night far from sleep
I'm still up and driving can't go home obviously
So I'll just change direction cause they'll soon know where I live
And I wanna live
Got a full tank and some chips
It was me and a gun and a man on my back
And I sang "holy holy" as he buttoned down his pants
You can laugh
Its kind of funny
Things you think
Times like these
Like I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this
Yes I wore a slinky red thing
Does that mean I should spread for you, your friends
Your father, Mr Ed
It was me and a gun and a man on my back
But I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this
And I know what this means
Me and Jesus a few years back used to hang
And he said "it's your choice babe just remember
I don't hink you'll be back in 3 days time so you choose well"
Tell me whats right
Is it my right to be on my stomach of Fred's Seville
It was me and a gun and a man on my back
But I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this
and do you know CAROLINA
Where the biscuits are soft and sweet
These things go through your head when there's a man on your back
And you're pushed flat on your stomach it's not a classic caddilac
It was me and a gun and a man on my back
But I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this
I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this
And how can I forget "Something to Shoot" by Chris Wall, which I heard on the Dr. Demento Show back in 1999. I've got to find me a copy of this.
PS -- It's from his 1990 album Honky Tonk Heart.
"Here's a song about every cowboy's real first love. It's not his horse, it's not his girl, and it's not his pick-up truck. Where have I heard that before? I sing this song a little different everywhere I go. This is the way them old boys down in Texas like to hear it."
I was born and raised way out west
But the thing I love 'bout livin' here best
It ain't the mountains, the valleys, the hats, or the boots
It's havin' plenty of guns and something to shoot
We got shotguns and sixguns, we got a shipload of guns
Shootin varments and critters, is a ????load of fun
I don't care about the money, I don't care about the loot
Give me Jack Daniel's whiskey and something to shoot
Now there's a whole herd of elk, right there in a line
But it's a pain in the ass to shoot 'em one at a time
And I'm way below quota; I've had a bad day
Boy what I wouldn't give for just one hand grenade
I don't care about the future, I don't care about the past
As long as I've got some creatures to blast
We got deer, we got elk, we got ol' owls that hoot
And when I've killed them all, they'll be Yankees to shoot
Don' 'cha tailgate me son get off my back
I gotta thirty-ought-six right here in the rack
And this ain't New Jeresy; We don't honk, we don't yell
And if you touch that bumper I'll blow you to hell
"Everybody sing a long with me now"
I was born and raised way out west
And the thing like 'bout livin' here best
It ain't the mountains, the valleys, the hats, or the boots
It's havin' plenty of guns and something to shoot
It's havin' plenty of guns and something to shoot
And while I was looking for that, I found this parody
http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/cindylauper0.shtml
"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" Based on the performance by Cindy Lauper
"Clones Just wanna Have Guns" Parody by Edward Goldstein
Some clones, like to target shoot
And others like getting down and licking boot
There's only one way to have lots of fun
Oh clones they wanna have guns
Oh clones just wanna have guns
The computer knows how to keep em' satisfied
When they go to R&D their eyes get so wide
They're always in the mood for something to shoot
Oh clones they wanna have guns
Oh clones just wanna have...
That's all they really want... some guns...
Offer them rifles, grenades or some knives
Oh clones, they wanna have guns
Oh clones just wanna have guns...
Clones they want, wanna have guns
Clones wanna have...
(sounds of weapons firing)
They fight like they've got holes in their head
And if you're a commie you soon will be dead
They are happy citizens, everyone
Oh clones they wanna have guns
Oh clones just wanna have...
That's all they really want... some guns...
Give them an uzi, a tank, or a nuke
Those clones will shoot til they puke
Oh clones just wanna have guns
Clones they want, wanna have guns
Clones, wanna have
They just wanna
They just wanna (clones)
Clones just wanna have guns
And of course, there's the classic "Cows With Guns" by Dana Lyons, which you can listen to at http://www.ampcast.com/music/12031/artist.php
Cows With Guns
by Dana Lyons
by Dana Lyons, copyright 1996
Intro
------
Fat and docile, big and dumb
They look so stupid, they aren't much fun
Cows aren't fun
They eat to grow, grow to die
Die to be et at the hamburger fry
Cows well done
Nobody thunk it, nobody knew
No one imagined the great cow guru
Cows are one
He hid in the forest, read books with great zeal
He loved Che Guevera, a revolutionary veal
Cow Tse Tongue
He spoke about justice, but nobody stirred
He felt like an outcast, alone in the herd
Cow doldrums
He mooed we must fight, escape or we'll die
Cows gathered around, cause the steaks were so high
Bad cow pun
But then he was captured, stuffed into a crate
Loaded onto a truck, where he rode to his fate
Cows are bummed
He was a scrawny calf, who looked rather woozy
No one suspected he was packing an Uzi
Cows with guns
They came with a needle to stick in his thigh
He kicked for the groin, he pissed in their eye
Cow well hung
Knocked over a tractor and ran for the door
Six gallons of gas flowed out on the floor
Run cows run!
He picked up a bullhorn and jumped up on the hay
We are free roving bovines, we run free today
We will fight for bovine freedom
And hold our large heads high
We will Frun free with the Buffalo, or die
Cows with guns
They crashed the gate in a great stampede
Tipped over a milk truck, torched all the feed
Cows have fun
Sixty police cars were piled in a heap
Covered in cow pies, covered up deep
Much cow dung
Black smoke rising, darkening the day
Twelve burning McDonalds, have it your way
We will fight for bovine freedom
And hold our large heads high
We will run free with the Buffalo, or die
Cows with guns
The President said "enough is enough
These uppity cattle, its time to get tough"
Cow dung flung
The newspapers gloated, folks sighed with relief
Tomorrow at noon, they would all be ground beef
Cows on buns
The cows were surrounded, they waited and prayed
They mooed their last moos,
they chewed their last hay
Cows out gunned
The order was given to turn cows to whoppers
Enforced by the might of ten thousand coppers
But on the horizon surrounding the shoppers
Came the deafening roar of chickens in choppers
We will fight for bovine freedom
And hold our large heads high
We will run free with the Buffalo, or die
Cows with guns
Rage Against the machine - Revolver
His spit is worth more than her work
Pass the purse to the pugilists
He's a prizefighter
And he bought rings and he owns kin
And now he's swingin'
And now he's the champion
Hey revolver, don't mothers make good fathers?
Revolver!
Hey revolver, don't mothers make good fathers?
Revolver
A spotless domain
Hides festering hopes she's certain there's more
Pictures of fields without fences
A spotless domain
Hides festering hopes she's certain there's more
Pictures of fields without fences
Her body numbs as he approaches the door
As he approaches the door
As he approaches the door
As he approaches the door
As he approaches
Hey revolver, don't mothers make good fathers?
Revolver!
Hey revolver, don't mothers make good fathers?
Revolver!
Hey revolver, don't mothers make good fathers?
Revolver!
Hey revolver, don't mothers make good fathers?
Revolver!
