I live in Washington state and will be visiting our daughter in Madison. I wanted to check to see what kind of ammo is available and where.

Is the supply any different than it is here in WA?

A better question might be.

Is there any .22 ammo available anywhere in the USA?

I went to two Wal-Marts, and one farm store today in eastern Kansas.

And it looked like a black hole had sucked the lighting out of the ammo cases.

One store had a hand written sign taped to the glass case saying:

No we don't have ANY ammo In the Back.
So Don't Bother waiting in line to ask us again.

It seems if you get there at the right time of night while they are stocking shelves right off the truck??

You might get three boxes if you get there at the right time of night.
Our Wal-Mart has another sign saying three-box limit in one day.

I live in Madison and there is no .22lr anywhere. At least not for retail prices. If you want to pay $.10/round you can get lots from Armslist but I hope you're not that desperate.

9mm is easier to get; I found some at Gander Mountain, Blaine's Farm n Fleet and Wal-Mart all in the last few weeks. Gander Mountain always seems to have lots of .40sw and .45acp around but no .223 or .22lr and rarely 9mm. I imagine that on the rare occasion they get some in it goes instantly.

The Gander Mountain in DeForest is probably your best bet, though still probably a loser.

Our Wal-Mart has another sign saying three-box limit in one day.

Our Wal-Mart just has a surly guy who lurks around the fishing tackle shouting "No!" when you ask him if they have any ammo.

There is .22LR as well as 9mm, 40 cal, and 45 ACP available at Midwest Shooters Supply if you dont mind making the trip... Also, they haven't gouged any prices, AT ALL. The prices have remained steady since before the school shooting. Good people, honest prices, if you can afford to make the drive. There is a limit on how much one person can buy, not sure what it is right now. Last I purchased it was 5 boxes per person, no more than 3 of the same caliber, could be different now as it is their perogative.

I know it's a jog, so check cabelas in your area and closer and call ahead to save time!

I haven't seen any .22LR that wasn't snakeshot/ratshot anywhere here in SC since late December.

It's like the stuff doesn't exist anymore.

None back home but I did find it in Branson, MO today. $23.49 for Federal Champion 525 round value pack and $3.79/ 50 for CCI Quiet .22 or Stinger. Limit was 1 box bulk and 3 ea. of the CCI for a total potential of 825 rounds per person. I bought 675 rounds as did my father but they sold out that afternoon. Bass Pro at the Landing, Springfield, MO was out of nearly everything.

Stopped at Graf & Sons on the way and bought a few pounds of BL-C(2) as well at $21.59/lb. and saw .223 bullets (bought some) and dies in stock there as well. We hit one other shop along the way but the $44 Kahr magazines, $40.00 PMAGS and $35 325 round bulk pack .22 had us pulling a u-turn in under 5 minutes. Didn't bother to remember the name.

You might try calling Grandpa's Gunshop (http://www.grampasgunshop.com/) on Williamson Street in Madison. He might still have a little bit of ammo though he never stocked much. Or The Ammo Box out in Sun Prairie (next city east) but I'd bet Tryg is as sold out as everyone else right now from the foolishness.

Things got skinny today, 250 rounds. I wouldn't buy this much normally but 2 of my 3 youngsters have new rifles to shoot and it looks like the snow has finally given up for the season. 2 boxes Quiet 22, 3 boxes Stinger, still a little bit left at the Landing in Branson as of 2:00 PM CST.

Total for 3 days of scrounging on an out of State trip:

Federal Champion, 2,100 rounds.
Federal Quiet 22, 1,150 rounds.
Federal Stinger, 150 rounds.

It's out there, I could have had another 550 rounds of Quiet/Stinger and I also found nearly 7,000 rounds of Federal AutoMatch (severely overpriced as the last was). Here's wishing everyone good luck in finding the ammo they need.
