Local shop is offering the Sig Sauer Mosquito at cheap prize at the local standard and it surely did feel comfortable. Can anyone share thoughts and comments? Thanks.

ONe of my friends has one and he had nothing but problems with it. Sent it back to SIg and they replaced it with a brand new one.

For what it is worth, if you are looking for a quality .22 autoloading handgun, go with a Ruger Mark 2 or 3. Have never had any problems with mine at all.

if you're going to buy a sig 22, get a trailside. same price as the mosquito, but a completely different level of quality.

Unfortunately, SIG (that's right...it's SIG....not Sig or sig) tried to dance in an arena where they can't hold a candle to the other manufacturers of semi-auto pistols chambered in .22 LR. I prefer SIG to other pistols in all other available calibers. However, they joined the game way too late.

SIG is an acronym.....sorry...personal pet peeve. It's all-CAPS

Fondled one at the local emporium---thoughly unimpressed----esp. considering the price of admition---$399---was cool that it looked like a real SIG---but was subpar overall---was overly heavy---and I just kept on thinking to myself that it really reminded me of the Jennings and Raven lines.

Went with a blued Single Six at nearly half the price of the SIG---Houge micarta grips are en route from Midway as we speak.

If you want a full size .22 training or plinking pistol, get the CZ-75 and the Kadet Kit. They are very accurate and reliable. You can practice using a full size pistol very inexpensively, then switch slides and shoot your 9MM or .40. I do that all the time at the range by taking both slides and switching when I feel like it.

Ditto the SIG Trailslide.

Best .22 to buy for the money. I've also read up on reports of the Mosquito feeling cheap and having problems.

Thats too bad, I remember how much everyone was looking forward to it.

I have no hands on experience with a SIG Mosquito but I will pass on this comment: I have had Rugers, currently have the least expensive Trailside and the least expensive Neos. At the range recently, I had both my .22 autos. It was my first time shooting the Neos. A guy in the next bay had a new Mosquito. I had a ball shooting my Traiside and Neos without a glitsch. He was busy :cuss: at his Mosquito (third time to the range with it), which was apparently still giving him plenty of trouble.

Despite the fact that this is a tale of only one sample, you know what I would do, right?

I have a TrailSide & Mosquito. Mosquito is going on the Consignment Block tomorrow.

I watched on jam repeatedly at the range if that helps. Never shot it, but the guy stated it only ran good with CCI stingers because they were the only round powerful enough to cycle the slide adequately.

Some other guy chimed in about one and said it didn't shoot "cheap" 22 rounds until about 1500 stingers went through his. Now, if you can find a softer spring, you might be in like flynn.

I have one, as well as a Ruger MkII and Ruger 22/45. I want to like it, but its picky about ammo ( does not like cheap stuff, even with the lighter spring ). With match or target ammo, or CCI Mini mags it works pretty well. I am more accurate with the Rugers, but the Mosquito does have a bit of a cool factor. Unlike other SIGs, it only has a one year warranty. Unless you really like the look and feel, I'd say the Ruger is a better value. It feeds more brands of ammo, is at least as accurate, and the magazines are less expensive.

Get a Browning Buckmark .22, I own two ruger MK IIs, and the Smith 41, and 2 Buck marks a Bullseye model and a plain jane 5.5" model buckmark plus.

My children 9 and 11 prefer the buckmark plus, its accurate, its 100% reliable with every type of ammo from cheap federal bulk to cci standard, blazer, aguilla target, federal gold medal, even yellowjackets, and velociter.
The trigger was a little heavy 4.5 lbs at first but breaks clean, with no creep or overtravel, and gets lighter 3.5lbs after a couple thousand rounds. Its easy to clean, and all you do to mount a scope is buy a $25 top rail and rings, and you can go back and forth from irons to scope with no change in zero.

The grip angle is the same as a 1911 as are the control locations, and no funny grip angle like the ruger MKII or MK III, (except the government model ruger).

A great .22 I find them to be more accurate, more reliable, and have a better trigger than the Ruger, and no mag disconnect or loaded chamber lawyer attachments Yet, all for $300 at your dealer.

The Ruger and Buckmark are the best .22s around and cost half a mosquito. Both will mimic the 1911 grip if you choose the 22/45 ruger models.

Wow, blast from the past.

I opened this thread thinking, "Wait... I didn't respond to this thread recently..."

Mosquito. Was a POS, still a POS. Nothings changed in the 2 yrs. Maybe changed the type of frying pan they melt for the slide. That's probably bout' it.

I had one. It would run on CCI mini-mags. Anything else would jam it. OK accuracy, cheap zinc slide, decent ergos. There are much better options out there. I would not buy another unless it was a BARGAIN.

I don't get it: I purchased the SIG Mosquito with the red-dot target sight at a great price and I find it to be a very high-quality, ergonomic pistol with a flawless fit and finish. Of course, I'm not a firearms freak; I just bought it to have fun, not to kill anything other than cans. I think some people are a little bit too into the whole weapons gestalt. No offense; just sayin'.:scrutiny:

I shouldn't say this but there have been a lot of them returned to SIG and in the custom shop/repair, but you didn't hear that from me. :uhoh::banghead::evil:

sig-sauer mosquito

Hi, I am new to this site. I bought a sig-sauer mosquito from Gander Mountain in Ocala, Fl. about 2 months ago. The sales person said the gun was ammo sensitive, he was correct. I have read the postings on this site and here is my info. I buy ammo from Walmart, very cheap compared to most ammo stores.

Tried Federal, Federal Champion, CCI Blaser and they all jamed. Then tried Remington with the gold tip coating. Holy cow 1,000 rounds in one week and not one Miss-fire or jam. When this gun works it is a wonderful weapon. Adjust the site and it is dead on, I belong to a shooting range and fire about 500 rounds of all size ammo a week. I tell you try the Remington, and I hope your Mosquito works like ours.

I just bought one last month as the first gun purchase of 2k9 I like the gun it holds the 9 ring at 25 yards on a standard timed/rapid fire NRA target. Trigger is crap but I am used to a volquartsen trigger in my ruger mkIII.

As for the ammo it does not like STANDARD VELOCITY ammunition it prefers HV and will work flawlessly with HV, I put somewhere in the area of 200 rounds of FEDERAL BULK HV through the gun without FTF.

I am very happy with the purchase I got it for 220 on consignment. Its a great basic plinker.

I just bought one last week and took it to the range for the first time yesterday. I absolutely love mine. I did have 1 mis-feed out of 200 rounds of CCI mini-mags. I use the CCI b/c that is what SIG recommends. I also found the gun to be very accurate out of the box.
