Any comments about Sig-Sauer Mosquito?

I had a Mosquito for a couple months back when they first came out, I was glad to get rid of it. I liked the look and feel but it was too picky on ammo and didn't live up to my expectations. Same story with the P22 btw.

I don't understand why everyone is whining about the SIG being picky on ammo. The MANUAL says to use CCI...everyone should've known that before they purchased it. Then if you knew it, why would you try to get by with something cheap?

Everyone should have known that?

But don't you have to buy it to get the manual?

I've been looking to get a good .22 pistol and it definately won't be a p22 or sig mos. that's for sure. I don't want another picky .22 pistol.

Sorry to ruin the bashing but mine has been an excellent performer for me. I am using Remington subsonics in mine since I shoot it suppressed using a Gemtech Outback all the time. I have had mabye 3 or 4 jams since I bought it total.

I have a Mosquito and also a couple of CZ75's with Kadet adapters. given a choice, the CZ hands down. The Mosquito is fun to shoot and if you break it in correctly, very reliable. Mosquitos tend to like CCI minimags, as do a lot of 22 automatics. The minimags seem to have a bit more punch and that helps the slide action. While I like shooting the Mosquito, if I had to give up one of my 22's, that would be the one.

Well ...if mine I purchase for my daughter and 3 extra mag's didn't jam on on the cheap ammo I would love it But it don't and tried different spring and cci ammo just doesn't work all the time Yea I guess i'm unhappy with mine...

Well you're right you can't read the manual until you've purchased the gun. It's just that I and most gun owners I know research the prospective purchase before laying down the cash.

Gun manuals say all kinds of stuff, mostly because of lawyers. Like, "Don't carry a round in the chamber", etc. so I don't fault gun owners for ignoring some thing said in manuals.

I wouldn't buy a .22 to just shoot CCI Minimags. While I like and shoot Minmags, they are too expensive for plinking.

Sig Sauer Mosquito

My Marine son and I both bought the Sig Sauer Mosquito, after first looking at the Walther/Smith Wesson hybrid, which neither of us likes in our hand. I waited until he had his a few weeks and I had tried it out. Love the gun! Through this forum, I bought CCI miniMags, and my gun had a rebate deal from Sig Sauer for CCI mini mag ammo. I have the two tone and he has the standard black version. Never a misfeed with the CCI, but one with Remington Stingers when the gun was right out of the box. My son bought his at a big name sporting goods store and paid $160.00 more than I did for mine at a local gun show. Both are brand new in the box.

My brother has fired mine and loves the feel of the gun, but not the accuracy compared to his Ruger 22/45 or his tuned Ruger 22 Super Single Six. Plus, he lost the firing pin retaining pin while cleaning the 22/45 and has to wait for a new one. Also, at the same show where I bought my Mosquito, I bought him two extra Ruger mags for the 22/45 and still paid less than the cost for one extra mag for the Mosquito, which are hard to find in stock online.

The Sig Sauer name played a large part in my purchase, since I had used the P226 while with the Navy SEALs in the late 80's. Very reliable, very ergonomic, durable, and just plain fun to shoot in the 22 Mosquito.

Sig Sauer Mosquito Rocks

My Marine Corps son and I (retired 30 year Navy) both bought the Mosquito. He got his at Bass Pro and paid way too much, got mine at a gun show at a very reasonable price, comparable to the Ruger 22/45 and S&W/Walther hybrid. Both are the basic gun, mine is two tone and his is black.

On day one, had some leftover Rem Lightning ammo and tried that, had two misfeeds in 50 rounds. I bought CCI mini mags and haven't had a jam at all. We both love this little pistol, and so does my brother, although he likes the accuracy of his Ruger 22/45 and Super Single Six better. His Thai wife doesn't like either of his cause her hands are so small, but likes the Mosquito's ergonomics much better.

I guess if I were squirrel hunting with the Mosquito, the squirrels would not be in much danger. Different story with my 1940 Marlin Model 39 with the Marvel peepsight. Most accurate 22 rifle I've ever owned, and I have owned a few.

We (me, son and brother) all like the Mosquito's takedown system much better than the Ruger 22/45. Brother is still waiting for a replacement firing pin retaining pin he lost last time he cleaned it. Mosquito came with two springs, and a 12 penney nail cut to length would suffice for the spring guide rod if necessary.

I love the Mosquito, although extra magazines are more than double what the Ruger mags cost, and are hard to find online and in stock.

Mosquito

Just got a Sig Mosquito last week at the Gun Show in Nashville, read and fallowed the instructions, used Federal ammo 300 rounds and no one jammed,
good accuracy, like it better than the P22 but as much as the neos.
Great gun for the price

just shot one at the range. Got an hour to spare so i rented one. I put around 200 rds of rem value pack golden bullet (525 rds). Mainly practicing off hand and point shooting.
It's the first time after 4 yrs since i've shot a .22 pistol and it was a lotta fun. It's accurate for what it is. Trigger is a bit stiff but not bad. DA is very heavy (from hammer down).

CONS:
ergonomics are bad. Using two handed grip, my right thumb would accidentaly push the slide lock up so when i didn't pay attention it would lock the slide. Mind you i don;t have extra large hands, in fact I wear medium sized gloves (paintball). So all of this were happening and i thought, what a piece of crap, failing to feed every 2-3 rds. But i finally found out what was happening and decided to just rest my thumb on the slide lock, so the after the last shot, the slide didn't stay open. At least that way i can shoot the whole mag w/out any failures.

Bought a Mosquito (Digital Camo w/threaded barrel) at Cabelas the other day, returned it the next day. The manual safety didn't work at all.
Got a Ruger MK III instead.

went out shooting this past weekend with some old friends. This thread had me thinking that I had not taken the Mosquito out in a while. I let one of my friends shoot it and he could not get it to fire. I took it and emptied the mag and hit the targets with each shot. I watched him load the next mag and then it would not work for him. I had to explain the safety needed released before it would fire. :)
This is a typical story of those who can not or have trouble with Sig pistols, plain and simple most cases are operator error. The rest of the day the sig ate all the ammo we had including some old russian military surplus 22lr. Great pistol and accurate as the person shooting it.

All the bad reviews of the Sig mosquito always remind me of the old addage "A poor sportsman always blames his equipment":neener:

I like mine. I use the CCI Blazer... about $18 for a brick and it runs fine. I'd like to find a couple other options because it has been a little picky with ammo. Keep it clean, find some decent ammo thats in your price range, and it's a fun gun. Looks good, shoots good, for $300 I'm happy.

I like it...

Dudes, I have to say, I really like my skeeter. Hear me out:

I went out to a nearby local shop (Oregon) intent on buying a Walther P22. Had good reviews, whatnot. But it felt like a little toy in my hand; I just couldn't see enjoying shooting it. So the clerk suggested the SIG Mosquito. The difference in my hand was enormous (The Mosquito is exactly like the 9mm, just 10% smaller). So I bought it on the spot.

Getting home and reading these types of forums however, I started to feel like a real sucker. BAD REVIEWS APLENTY. So I was thinking, shoot, I got hosed.

Then I took it out to go plinking... IT WAS AWESOME. I used the CCI minimags (and right here i should say that if you read these types of forums, you would know that's all this gun will reliably shoot) and never had a FTL, FTF or FTE.

I love this gun, but the recent ammo shortage has made these CCI minis pretty hard to acquire. The CCIs work because they're one of the few cartridges with enough force to cycle the action on this tense handgun. BUT, SIG includes a lower tension spring with each gun. Slap that on, put some casing oil on your cheap ammo, and the Mosquito WILL STILL SHOOT RELIABLY, assuming you keep it clean and oiled. 1000 rounds, 1/4 of that cheap ammo, and never any problems.

This gun has improved my accuracy on larger caliber handguns, and my string of girlfriends since buying it have loved it as a "first shooting experience" gun. Heck, one of these ladies even bought one and uses it as a concealed carry. I wouldn't recommend it as a CCW, but she likes knowing she has it, and you have to admit, it's better than nothing.

And one last thing - I bought mine stock with a threaded barrel, ready for a suppressor. Granted, the suppressor and ATF tax stamp cost more than the gun, but it's a sweet little package. No earplugs. Man, you can shoot it in the garage if you want. Now that's awesome.

I'd say buy one, use CCIs, keep it clean and oiled, and you'll have a solid, fun plinker for as long as you take care of it. It's not a POS if used properly.

Review the posts I believe you will see a pattern. I had one it was crap came with two different recoil springs .Niether one worked with any ammo, I tried everything I had .Cleaned it up back to gun show sold it ,told the guy it was a jammer he didnt believe me. Google it , pos in my book ,but if you win it you wont have any trouble selling it because ITS A sig. PUN INTENDED

My wife really wanted a pink gun (I know, I know) and we came across a pink Mosquito at a show. I knew nothing about it, but the ergonomics were great, the controls were excellent and its a SIG, so its got to be quality right?

WRONG!

It never even occured to me that a SIG could possibly be so unreliable. I would NEVER buy a gun without researching it first, but since it was a SIG the thought never crossed my mind.

Biggest POS I have ever seen. The reliability is on par with an old Jennings/Bryco I used to own. We followed direction on ammo, put several thousand rounds of CCI mini mags through it. It actually has improved to only 1 failure every other mag instead of several per mag.

I have swapped springs, cleaned and lubed and even sacrificed a gerbil...... nothing seems to make this POS reliable. Now it is a very expensive paperweight in my safe taking up space that I could use for a Ruger or Browning.

why no lock back?

I'm totally new to shooting and have only used my mosquito one time. I don't understand why the mosquito is designed to NOT lock back when the magazine is empty. (From the Sig Sauer website: "Lock back issues can be due to a variety of reasons...*NOTE: The slide will not lock back on the last round on the Classic .22LR pistols and Conversion Kits."
This is probably a really stupid question, but how will I be able to distinguish between an empty chamber or a misfire? (aside from counting :) )

on mine i always accident hit or place my fingers on the slide release..so it releases the slide when it should have locked it back.

If you are content with always having to use CCI minimags, this is a good gun. For me it kind of defeats the purpose of shooting a 22 if you have to shoot the high $$ stuff.
