I'm concidering sending my Mod 637 to S&W's Performance Center for a master revolver action job. Does anyone have any positives or negatives about their work? Were you satisfied with the end result?
Any comments on S&W Performance Center?

bought a 627 from the Performance Center and I'm very pleased with it. Sent it back for some laser engraving and it's probably my favorite.

+1 to what Joe said. Sent my 625JM in for the same work you want on your 637. Just a word of caution.... DON'T do it unless you're prepared to spend a lot more for your ammunition budget.

The S&W PC shop is one of those hidden gems. They do awesome work and I have yet to be displeased with the quality.
I did have to send a PC 629-5 back once. The SA sear broke and needed replacing. I shipped it back from my local shop (no charge), S&W did the repairs (no charge) and shipped it back within three weeks (no charge).
And I had bought the gun used (LNIB).
YMMV, but I think highly of the PC shop.

I just called the S&W Performance center. I told them that I was interested in a master action job on my J-frame .38 and was told that it "wasn't worth it" by the rep over the phone. From what she said, there isn't much they're able to do to lighten and smooth out the trigger on a 637.
Since S&W don't want to touch it, does anyone here have any recommended gunsmiths who specialize in S&W revolver lockwork or can work some fantastic mojo on a J-frame? Brand new and out of the box - no revolver should feel like this. I've handled a bone-stock Taurus .357 which had a trigger pull that was worlds lighter than my Smith.

The last two Taurus revolvers I purchased (905 9mm revolvers) likewise had better and lighter trigger pulls than anything I have gotten from Smith in many, many years. And I like Smith products. But that has been my experience, too.

My Model 17-2 and my Model 29 came from the factory with better triggers and smoother actions and are more accurate than anything I've seen from the Performance Center. IMHO, S&W's stock work was better 25 years ago than their "custom" work is today. YMMV.

Contact Teddy Jacobson Actions by T. He's semi-retired but is a true artisan when it comes to trigger work. He's worked on my Ruger SP101 and my wife's S&W 60LS.

I thought the PC did a nice job on my 629PP. I sent it back to S&W when the timing went south. After the repair, under warranty, I had them walk it over to the PC shop for a bit of finessing. 1.5" groups @ 50 yds. handheld, (edge to edge), no problem; more accurate at every distance than my very accurate Hammerli .22. It did take 6 weeks, but the big .44 stoked with .44 specials is unbelievably accurate and totally reliable.

The J frames use a different lock work... I've owned Taurus, shot rugers and own smiths. The best triggers without a doubt were on the S&W PC guns, period. The Taurus guns I've owned have been fine examples, but the trigger pull on all of them is 15 pounds minimum in DA, and I'd be willing to bet money it's more. If the PC said there isn't much room for improvement, that should be high value information.
There's a butt-load of K-frames out there just waiting for a loving home.

I've got nothing but good things to say about S&W's gunsmithing services. I've had two guns in their capable hands over the last year, and have a third (a pretty worn M&P) at the factory right now. Not only did they tune my M63 for free, but they turned it around in less than two weeks!
Officially, they don't work on pre-1958 guns, but they were willing to take on a five-screw, pre-model number k-frame of mine. The gun came back like new. Literally, like new. I am confident they will do the same for that M&P I sent them recently. One note, though. If you want the gun reblued, don't plan on getting it back that week. If you are patient, however, the results are worth the wait.

Like all shopwork, this can depend on a number of things. However, you can opt for the "Express Package" with a five day turnaround.
