I just sent my 386PD into the performance center for what they call their master revolver action. Has anyone used the PC for action work and if so how were the results?

It sure isn't as good as it used to be. But at least there is very little chance that they'll really screw anything up. But for good trigger work a local smith can probably do a better trigger job for much less money and no shipping expenses.

Hope they do a good job for you. I sent in a 625 for the same package. When I got it back, took off the side plate to see what they did. Put in a Wolff spring kit. For the life of me I don't think they polished anything. Made me so mad I will never do that again. Got a local gunsmith that is a wizard with Smith's and does a great job. Hope yours turns out great.

Oh boy. Do you know who did the work? I requested Vito because I heard he does good work, but now I'm worried.

Wish I could remember. It was a few years ago. Hopefully the person that did mine has moved on to other things. Just check it out when it comes home. Also, make sure you shoot lots of different ammo in it to make sure it lights everything up properly. If they put in different mainspring and rebound spring, like they did on mine, you should be sure it works with your ammo first. Mine didn't. They put in the Type 2 Wolff mainspring, which is lighter than the Type 1 spring.

If you aren't happy with what they do, call them and tell them what you think about their work. I was so mad I didn't ... and wish I had called.

Good luck. I have never had an issue with any work done by S&W until I used their Performance Center services. So, hopefully my experience was unique and yours will be wonderful. Please let us know how they did for you.

A buddy of mine bought an 629-7 .44 mag from the PC, his had the extra weights to put under the barrel crown, comp trigger and hammer. This PC is the smoothest revolver I've ever shot, next to my Python. This revolver didn't come with the velvet lined case {damn!]. I can tell you, this .44 shoots better than I will ever be able to, the smoothest DA ! Hope your firearm comes back sweet as this one!

eh...I'm confused - why are you asking now? Why didn't you ask before you sent the gun out? Before getting anxious from replies here, I'd just wait to see how the gun turns out. We're looking forward to a range report. ;)

I'll side with MrB on this one. From my personal friend's experience, I predict you will be well pleased. As to cost, their work always includes overnite shipping both ways. I bought my two PC guns 4/10 and 10/10 - both PC627 UDRs - both with fine triggers. Be positive - open minded - you'll be happy!

The reason I'm asking now is that the gun developed an issue covered under warranty, the cylinder became difficult to close. I brought it back to the shop where I made the purchase and they were willing to send it back to smith to have them check it out...shipping covered. I figured while it was there I would have the action worked on. It was a spur of the moment decision...based on the situation.

Sometimes it's just a loose ejector rod that needs to be tightened that causes the cylinder to close hard. As for the performance center work I agree that you should wait until you have a chance to shoot it before you judge the work.

If you know a good smith locally it's usually less expensive to have him do the trigger work, in fact with MIM parts there's not a whole lot left in a newer Smith to polish. You should notice a smoother pull when you get it back, not necessarily a whole lot lighter.

I have a 586 L comp 7 round from the PC. Smooth and in perfect time.

I think Smith will do a good job for you and I wouldn't worry about it unless there is a problem when you get it back.

I have a 629 V-comp, which is a Performance Center revolver. It came with the locking gun case. It is a pre-lock gun. It is smooth, tight and has the smoothest, cleanest breaking trigger I have felt on any Smith and Wesson, except for my 19-4 which was factory tuned in the mid 80s. I don't know anything about their quality these days, but back then it was awesome.
