Any cool gun tips?

20 gauge shotgun bore brush is pretty useful for cleaning the gas tube on an AK47, and the bore swab thing for a 20 gauge can be used with gun cleaner if ya want for this also.

Cleaning kits for AK's are widely available, cleaning rods on the other hand not so much.

Never take apart anything your not absolutely sure how it goes back together, it is quiet embarrassing to walk into your local gunsmith shop with a box or bag of parts and ask for help. Generally it is also expensive.

Get to know your local gunsmith and be friends with him.

I found a very nice guy in TX who has a patent pending and sells the "Ultratool", a shim you can install on your guide rod to hold the recoil spring in place to make it very easy to take down a 1911. I own a Para Slim Hawg, and he did not have a stock "tool" for my model, so in exchange for a few pic's of the tool installed in my 1911, he sent me roughly 10 Ultratools to determine which best fit my gun. Turned out it was NONE of the ones he sent me, but with a little measuring on my end, he sent up 4 more one of which (1 1/32") fit perfectly. They are nicely machined in brass and have a drilled hole to hold on a keychain. Nice guy and cool tool too. I no longer have to fight spring tension to re-install the slide stop.

It is very un-manly to ask someone to hold your beer when you demonstrate something daring. Real men can drink beer while shooting over their shoulder or demonstrating a new and daring feat.

alcohol and guns dont mix. dont ever pick up a beer when guns are around.

when your wife/gf drags you to the makeup section of a store go to the sample section and grab some mascara brushes they work great for getting into small nooks and crannies.

Those annoying steel wire legged paper or plastic signs (painting companies, etc.) placed around your neighborhood with no permits, and which I regard as litter, make good targets holders.

Same for all those similar election signs never removed after election day. They're there for months if nobody removes them and the losers never seem to care.

Staple or tape targets to them, stick 'em in the ground, and have at 'em. You can even tape them together and piggyback them to make them higher.

Something like 90% of the targets at my range are of this sort. Piggybacking them is a good idea, thanks.

Tampons make great barrel swabs. They come in all different sizes and work for anything from .45 to 12ga.

If you tire easily of walking up and down range carrying targets back and forth, or are stingey and feel like pnching pennies, simply use two targets back to back instead of replacing a shot up target with a new one every time.

When your target is full of holes, simply remove the back to back targets and shift one right or left an inch or two and restaple. This can be done several times.......

......unless you're one of those who like to shoot the entire centers out with nice, tight groups.

When disassembling a firearm for the first time (or for troublesome ones), work on it inside of a box large enough to hold it with room to work. Sides high enough for your hands to comfortably work inside. Should a screw fall, or a spring go sproing, it's inside the box. And if you fail to reassemble it, just take the whole box to your local gunsmith - they love that. :)

If you go by WalMart to get a couple of cases of store brand soda cans to shoot at.....

Make sure to get DIET(sugar free)!!! If you shoot the full sugar drinks - - the bees will find you in minutes, from 75 miles away, even in the winter!

How do you guys know so much about tampons?

Tip:
Set up the video camera when you take a gun or other item apart for the first time. When you can't get it back together or remember how it came out, just like the NFL, review the tape.

Stop the car before removing your CCW from the center console to tuck back into your pocket. Grabbing the shifter and slamming the brakes when an SUV cuts you off for a three-lane turn is not a good thing with a .38 in your hand.

Electrical tape is the exact same color as the black parts of a Nissan Altima's lower dash console. :uhoh:

If you do a lot of office printing, save the documents you don't need instead of throwing out. Buy a roll of masking tape....Now you need to buy only one fullsize target whenever you go to the range. One sheet of printing paper covers the chest of a sillouette target very well (use the blank backside of the used printing paper). When that sheet gets a lot of holes, fold it and tape to head of target--a quarter size sheet of paper covers the face & head of a target nicely. You can shoot all day with one target and a small stack of 8.5x11 used printing paper.

Got a rifle bore that you just can't get the last of the fouling out? Try a patch soaked with Nu-Finish Car Polish wrapped around a jag. Clean the bore first using your traditional method and then use the Nu-Finish. The polish is non-abrasive and won't remove any metal from the bore itself, just the fouling copper and powder residue. It's inexpensive, can be bought at any auto parts store, and can also be used in your brass polisher.

Just got a tip from my cousin. Use a chopstick for leverage in order to push the pin back into a ruger mark II during reassembly.

Finally a use for chopsticks. Lord knows I can't eat with them.:what:

Can you use standard sized tampons for less then lethal projectiles?

Why is it a bad idea to reload steel cases?
You might have to worry about a Lite tampon expanding, but you'll never have to worry about a Heavy tampon shrinking.

Remember that.

I think steel cases are difficult/impossible to resize.

Surgical dressings make great cleaning patches, no lint or fuzz.

Tooth paste make a good fine polishing compound.

After shooting lead heads also shoot some FMJ afterward for easier bore cleaning.

mcdonl,
Most, that I know of anyway, steel cased ammo is Berdan primed.

For those with dedicated reloading benches with desk/table lamps give these bulbs a try,

I have three seperate lamps on my bench and the quality of light produced by these things is outstanding! Very crisp, clear and clean white light. I bought mine at Lowes for around 5 bucks a pop.
