I have a 15 V6 model that is about to be turned into a range plinker instead of gathering dust in a box. I was just wondering if there was much of a following here on the HR Forum.

Thinking of either buying and mounting a scope or installing a Millet Red Dot I have that is also blued like the gun. My problem is the only mount I can find that is black/blued requires the barrel shroud being tapped.

Currently leaning toward tapping, but still not convinced yet. I like the idea of the red dot sight more then a scope at present, but I would like to try my hand at some 100 yd shooting. And with my eyes that says scope for sure if shooting beyond 25 or 30 yards.

I'm on my second Dan Wesson 22. The first one I traded off years ago, and almost immediately regreted it. I finally found another one, just like the first one a couple of months ago and grabbed it. It's a good shooter.

As you can see in this picture, it's a big gun when compared to the Single Six and the Bearcat.

Well I have a M22 with a 4 and 6 inch heavy barrel. A M15 with a 6 inch vented barrel. Also a M41 with a 8 inch heavy barrel.

15v6 and 44v6 here.

I'd say go ahead and tap your shroud. I have seen a number of tapped shrouds without the scope mounted and it looks fine to me. Of course, you can always get an extra shroud from DW.

Personally, I admire people who can shoot revolvers beyond 25 yards. I don't think I could hold steady enough to do that well.

I've owned one of my Dan Wesson M15-2's for over thirty years. I shows it's age in places, but it's still the most consistently accurate .357 I own.

Nothing has broken, and with the exception of springs, nothing has needed replacement due to wear.

IIWY, I'd take the advice about obtaining a dedicated shroud for optics use. That way there'll be much less involved in switching back and forth, should you want or need to.

B-Square offered a mount that clamped to the vented barrel. These are no longer produced but you can find them on auction sites time from time. I have one for my 445 SuperMag that I just bought from a member here. Looking forward to getting a chance to shoot it in two weeks!

If you are interested in more DW info try the Dan Wesson Forum.

I have a 14 and a 715. The 14 has a new 8 inch barrel. I haven't tried it yet. I know it needs filing of the end of the shroud that meets the frame to point straight. Done some filing already. The timing isn't ideal because the chambers difffer slightly in position when the cylinder is turned. I bought the barrel for more accurate target shooting, but if that can't be done at least I have a nice home defense tool with .38 Special +p. I find the revolver comfortable to hold and it points naturally as an extension of my under arm. I had high hopes for the 14 when I bought it with a 4 inch barrel fitted at a gun show recently. The 715 is a warped mess, suitable to hammer nails with. I own four handguns all in all and they fill different purposes in concealed carry and home defense. They only represent self defense tools and I've become slightly bored lately with the acctual shooting. I find myself becoming more and more concerned with the states in the union that don't take the 2nd seriously. To no surprise it's in the states where socialism is brewing. The Socialists want the people defenseless before they run them over. Disgusting to see the Constitution laughed at, and the President doesn't do anything. Why? :scrutiny::scrutiny::scrutiny:

I have two, a 715 6"VH, and a 4" 15-2. The 715 looks brand new, except for a scratch on the shroud. The 15 is a little worn looking, but shoots great. I have had 6 DW .357's, all were great guns, and I prefer them over any other revolver out there.

When I get some spare cash, I want to get a nice 744.

I do, wonderfull single action trigger, the double action pull makes a glock look like 1 lb race gun trigger.

I have 3 Model 15's, 2 Model 44's, and a .45 ACP 1911.

Without a doubt, they are the best built handguns I've ever shot or owned. I had a Pre-Model 10 .38 Special, a .357 Blackhawk, a S&W M29, a Redhawk, and an M44. When I bought the first pistol pack, I decided to get rid of the other revolvers- they just didn't hold a candle to the Dan's.

I gave the Pre-Model-10 to my dad, I sold the Redhawk on Gunbroker, the M29 to a friend traded the M44 towards the 1911. The Blackhawk hasn't sold, I guess wrong time of year for a hunting gun.

The interchangible barrel setup is very handy on the revolvers, but even the fixed/single barrel guns exhibit strong build quality, a dedication to fine details, and a commitment from Dan Wesson to build guns which are fun to shoot. The blued guns have always had this highly polished, deep "black" blueing, the triggers in both double and single action are some of the smoothest, most consistent on any gun I've ever tried, and lastly the parts fit on most of these guns makes a lot of Ruger and S&W guns look mid-70's RG's

In addition, the best customer service I've ever received has come from Dan Wesson and now CZ/Dan Wesson.

I love my Dan Wessons- they're keepers and I can safely say I take pride in owning them.

I think the OP and any forum member would do well to take the time to learn a bit about them, and then find one and shoot it.

If I can be of any service, please let me know.

I've got a few DW's:

Model 722 .22LR with 3 barrels (6V, 6VH, 8VH)
Model 738 .38+P 2" Barrel
Model 744 .44 Mag with 3 barrels (10VH, 8V, 6V)
Model 15-2 .357 6HV
Model 15-2 .357 with 3 barrels (2.5VH, 4V, 6V)
Model 445 .445 SuperMag 8VH Unfluted Cylinder

I'm looking for a 732 or a 745 if anyone knows where I can pick one up.

Below are some pictures of a couple of them. From top to bottom 744, 15-2, and 722.

I like my DW's so much I started a site specifically for them. The Dan Wesson Forum - I started this site back in December and have gathered lots of good information. Currently over 100 members of the site.

I had a Dan Wesson M15 years ago. I ended up trading it for a Winchester 94 30-30. Most accurate handgun I ever owned. I'm still kicking myself in the butt for that trade. :banghead:

I’ve owned a 6” 715-2V for over 15 years and bought a 4” VH barrel/shroud for it to use in IDPA. I had the action polished and Wolff Reduced Power spring set installed (my ‘smith is a S&W snob, but he did it anyway). I really love that gun. I’d like to find a round-butt style grip for it.

I bought a 15-2V Pistol Pack over a year ago and still have not gotten it out to the range. I’m looking forward to see what it will do with that 8” barrel.

Regarding drilling and tapping for optics, I’d contact Genny at Dan Wesson and order a dedicated shroud. Service is great.

And, I agree, the prices on DW revolvers (especially Monson guns) seem to be going up. What a shame, I’d like to get a .22 and .44 Magnum too.

If someone is looking for a stout, quality revolver, I would recommend a DW (and I have caused several people to go out and buy their own).

Matt

I bought a second hand M15 (Monson gun, late 70's early 80's.) a little over a yr ago. The trigger axle pin that the trigger rotates on broke, causing the trigger on to engage any other part and siezing up. The axle seems to be crush fit or otherwise attached to the frame through the right side, so hopefully, it won't be much of a problem.
I contacted CZ/DW and they were a great help!
I sent it off to the CZ/Dan Wesson last week. DW stated a gunsmith will call me w/ an estimate prior to starting repairs. I'm very pleased w/ CZ-USA/DW's customer service.
Has anybody else ever heard of a trigger axle pin breaking on the M15?

I had a 41 VH8 that had the best SA trigger of any handgun I have ever owned and rivaled most custom rifle triggers, It had several problems straight from the factory back in the early 80's (IIRC) but it was returned 2x and it came out fine. It didn't get much use and a friend "had to have it" so I sold it and bought a PC 657 Smith with the funds

It's not pretty,but....

Had my DW .357 for many yrs.It seriously has most of the finish worn off & looks like 40 miles of bad road. It's temperamental as an old woman and will embarass you if you feed it ANYTHING except 19.6 gr. of Win 296 pushing a 140 gr.JHP.
And it's not for sale or trade.
In my mind,I own seventeen more pistols;all marked DW.

I bought the blued 357 with an extra 4 inch barrel assembly which I sold on ebite for enough so that the gun cost me $100. Looking back I wish I had kept it.
And here's what the 22 will do with 12 shots at 25yrds, granted with a red dot and a rest.
