Hi, I'm new to THR and Black Powder and was just wondering if there's any Pennsylvanian's?
I just purchased a 1974 Euroarms but it hasn't arrived yet, but when it does I'll know I'll be asking a lot of questions. But right now I'm having a heck of a time trying to find 3f or 2f and #10 Caps and was wondering if there's any store's in the state anyone knows other than online because that hazardous shipping charge is a killer. I'm in Northumberland County...

Dixon's Muzzle Loading Shop is very well known place, perhaps the largest ML shop in PA.
9952 Kunkels Mill Rd, Kempton, PA 19529
    (610) 756-6271

    Here's a map.
    https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Northumberland+County,+PA/9952+Kunkels+Mill+Rd,+Kempton,+PA+19529/@40.7974827,-76.5115133,10z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c5f1910d1b44fd:0xa7c4bb70cc953c4c!2m2!1d-76.6874701!2d40.8674339!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c5ce82484cfeb7:0x55a9c5b234901321!2m2!1d-75.8091321!2d40.6083188

With all of the flintlock shooters that there are in PA, it might be a good idea to call some gun shops to see if they know of anyone closer to buy powder from.
Someone is bound to have some for sale.

Another idea for caps is to check the locations of the major big box sporting goods stores such as Cabela's, Bass Pro, Sportsman's Warehouse, etc...

Make sure to call Dixon's before you go there to see what they have in stock.

Don't hesitate to buy #11 caps, they can be pinched to fit.
CCI #10's do run very small.
Most all factory nipples need to be be made smaller for them to fit properly.

I spoke with Dixon's last week but they're about 2 hours away, I also called Cabela's but the guy was zero help and was not from the BP department. I'm taking my son to Gettysburg next weekend so were stopping by Cabela's and Bass Pro but I'm hoping to find some mom and pop shop's in Harrisburg. Thanks for the help and taking the time out of your day.

I'm glad that you found some.
In the future consider ordering from Graf's.
Their shipping and Hazmat totals $30 which isn't much more than traveling and paying for gas.
They have RWS magnum caps and Shuetzen black powder in stock at the moment, which can change daily.

If you ever make it to Bass Pro, most all of their stores used to carry Goex BP.
But you would need to ask the gun dept. manager or supervisor because it's under lock and key.
Some employees don't even know that they sell it.

I'm in PA but in Blair county so I'm a couple hours away from you. There are two gun stores close to me that sell black powder but they don't always have what I want in stock and when they do the price is a good bit higher than online. If I buy 5 or 6 lbs online after I pay hazmat and shipping the price is about a wash with local pricing, and it's a lot easier than going to the store and hoping they'll have it.

I just ordered 6 lbs from Powder Valley and since it's $8/lb cheaper than local I'm still paying less after the shipping and hazmat fees.

Thanks for the tip, I've never heard of them before today but I am new to using the internet for this type of thing. YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN A BLESSING! I've had issues with Cabela's employees just 2 weeks ago I called in to see if they had a Steel NMA well we drove over an hour away only to get there and find a brass framed NMA....Frustration didn't even begin to describe how I felt.

Im in Erie County. If I can be of help let me know. Consider using 777 or Pyrodex. I understand it is Less corrosive than true bp and good for your needs. Read the voluminous info on this thread and don’t be reticent about asking any questions

Nice to meet you, I actually did buy Pyrodex P because that's all they had but I'm glad I made a good choice. Thanks for your input as it's very much appreciated. I'm sure I'll have more questions and this will be the first place I come to.

Im in Northumberland county too. Shamokin/Coal twp. I get my goex from Geisers in Sunbury. Pyrodex from Walmart. Geisers probably would have the caps. I shoot a flintlock and an inline. Kurts gun shop could be another source too. In Mifflinvile.

I spoke to atleast 7 shops in PA and didn't wan't to be a pain by calling them again because I couldnt remember who all I called I know almost everyone was out of powder but were waiting for it to come in . But I'll call them 1st thing in the morning because I need caps and a few other supplies,. I've been checking out the tap o cap but I'm weary. Thank You for your help, I tried Walmart but the kid had zero clue what he was looking for he didn't understand between 1f to 4f let alone Pyrodex I'm going just stop in tomorrow. Thanks for the help and if you ever want to shoot sometime just let me know, we're close enough my Mother just moved to Sunbury last Month and I stop by after church on Sunday's so I'm only a stones throw away.

It would be awesome to get together and do some shooting. I belong to Zerby rod and gun club. It's near Treverton. Im also a member at Eleysburg too. I don't like how they have the range set up though. The shooting benches are staggered. So if someone is on the 50 yard line. You can't use the 100 or 130 yard benches.

Johns, the other online store to know about is track of the wolf. If you need some little odd or end that may be quite obscure, they are the first place I would check.

As far as cap making goes, I have one of the dies from sharpshooter. It works well and the resulting caps fit and work on percussion rifles.

Awesome I'll get the information for Zerby's and become a member. I used to be a member of Shower's rod and Gun but after the old man passed everything went down hill pretty quickly.

By Fed standards one can store 50 pounds of black powder, states may differ. Black powder stores well and bulk ordering 10 to 25 pounds can lead to significant savings over LGS purchases. Of course it’s only cost worthy if one shoots multiple pounds in a years time. I typically order 10 to 15 pounds an order. Grafs is a good source.

I check Track of Wolf once a day. Every site anyone mentions gets saved on my browser. I've been researching making my own caps but I have concerns as far as reliability, unfortunately I sold all my reloading equipment when my son was born.

That's a great point I knew some sites have deals on bulk orders but i bought 2 lb. of Pyrodex for a little over $60 but I'm already looking for a better deal because I found out theres around 7000 grains in a pound and I divided it by 15 to figure out how many target loads I'll get it comes out to 466 divide by 2 and my son and I will be out after a month or so. I thought about seeing if anyone wanted to go in on bulk order but I'm not sure.

I spoke to Fort Chambers when I was Looking for a Rem. NMA he had a used one from the 70's for $300 it started with a G but he couldn't pronounce it. But the gentleman was very nice. My cousin went to Scotland Military School for Veterans so I know exactly where it is.
    Nice to meet you.

Thank you it looks like a nice place with lots to do I'm going to look into becoming a member. I see they have Hunter Safety Course tomorrow my son did his last year on the computer but I want him to have the real life experience of actually being there "I still remember when I took mine" and making memories vs sitting in front of the screen . Just a heads up I called North East Trade in Muncy I was looking for caps but they didn't have any. They have BP but they're rationing it to 1/2lb. but zero mark up $18 I believe. My boy is having his friend's over for the weekend as part of his Birthday, I'm taking them to Gettysburg tomorrow but not before we stop by Muncy, too good to pass up especially right now. I know it's a trip for you but if you're ever up that way stop by, it's about 3 miles off I-180 but if you call him he'll put stuff on hold for you.

Try calling National in Jersey Shore. They had a decent inventory when I was last there 1 year ago.
