Hi all.

Thinking about a rifle for camping/backpacking and the like.

Any accurate .308 rifles that break down to a smaller size for camping/hiking?

Thanks

Any idea how much the NEF is? $3800 for the other one is just BIT steep...:uhoh:

Did you get my email re: this weekend?

another vote for NEF, but not the survivor.;)
stock has a different feel, and no recoil pad. used to shoot one a buddy owned. you should hold one before ordering.

suggest a Handi rifle, about $200

or the pretty Ultra Hunter, under $300

Some years ago, Winchester made a takedown Model 70 in various calibers. I don't know if it's still in production - anyone know? I'm sure you could find one on the used gun market if you shop around.

Thompson Encore.

It's not fast to disassemble/reassemble, but with a carbine length barrel and perhaps a lightened stock, it should make a fairly small package.

I think you're talking about some custom work though.

Sauer 202 comes apart (barrel is clamped and buttstock comes off receiver) - more than the NEF, but far less than the HS. More than a Sauer but still less than the HS is the Blaser 93. Another option would be the Browning BLR (lever gun); remove the buttstock and you have a substantially shorter package to carry.
