Any input on 1911 frame forged Imbel in Brazil

Hi guys
I have my eyes on Springfield 1911-A1 Stainless Loaded 45 ACP
have on sale at the store for $800.00 so I when down to purchase one,
But I see the frame is forged Brazil,
I was expected 100% made in US I know people saying not to worry about that,But I'm pay $800.00 for the gun so is this worth it?
or is it better to buy Taurus PT1911 for $600.00 save myself $200.00 ?
I need you guy thoughts

Thumbs up for Springfield Armory

I highly recommend Springfield Armory guns, I have a SA Mil Spec SS that was made in Brazil and it has been totally reliable, no FTF's or FTE's. From my limited experience with gun smithing my SA, they seem to be fairly standard parts wise, I installed a drop-in grip safety and bobbed hammer from a Colt Combat Commander (no more spur hammer poking my spare tire )and these parts have worked just fine. I have heard that their are some other parts that are not quite standard, but that would be for the more experienced members here to explain.

I am totally happy with mine, it has a great trigger... breaks just like a glass rod and I find the government model doesn't bite the web of my hand quite as much as did my first 1911... a satin nickel plated Colt Combat Commander (had to sell for money reasons 10 years ago and I still miss that gun :banghead: )

I don't know about the price, I paid about $500 for my Mil Spec mine in '04.

I don't think you could go wrong with SA, imho

The "Made in Brazil" forgings of the slide and frame shouldn't be a very big issue. They're very good. There are many, many happy Springfield Armory fans around here.

If a Springfield's Imbel rollmark is an issue, you can also look at Kimber, Smith and Wesson or Colt which are all US made. Unfortunately, the Taurus PT1911 is not on the CA approved handgun list.

All SA frames and slides are forged by Imbel of Brazil. If your serial number has a 'N' prefix then 50% of the final product was done in Brazil and 'NM' mean 50% of the final product was done in the US. The rumor is that SA does make a batch of the Mil-Spec model with the 'NM' prefix and I bought one a while back and the fit and trigger was much better than my Brazil Loaded model for a lot less. I regularly check with my local gunshop and haven't seen one since.

Have you looked at the Dan Wesson pistols? All USA made I think. I cheaped out and got a PT1911 Taurus but I haven't regretted it though. Great gun for the money. But that new DW Valor sure looks nice.

I just bought the same gun you are looking at for $600.00. It looks great and feels fine. I only shot it once, 100 rounds, but I had two failures to feed. The gun is new, so it will probably smooth out, so I don't consider the initial results a problem. The accuracy was so-so, thus I will reserve judgement until the piece is better broken in. I think that the gun will need a brake in period.

The workmanship is top notch, better than the Kimbers that I looked at. I looked at a lot of guns, mostly Springfield and Kimbers. Some of those Kimbers were embarassingly badly built. The Springfields were all tight and well machined.

All and all, I think I will end up liking this Springfield, I may just need to work with it a bit.

Go Springfield all the way. From what I've seen and in talking with a few dedicated 1911 shooters, Taurus pales in comparison to the Springfield Armory line. I'm a 1911 fan and have shot a variety of Springfield pistols many times over; I've yet to shoot a Taurus and probably never will.

Not saying that all Springfields (or any other manufacturer for that matter) will give you 100% reliability out of the box, but in my opinion, Springfield makes a better pistol overall. You'll kick yourself later and spend more than the $200 you saved to either get what you really want, or to modify the pistol so it runs like the gun that you wanted in the first place.

I've got a Springfield GI. Frame and Slide forged in Brazil. I've got roughly 2K rounds through it. Everything from factory Winchester 230 grain JHP (my carry load), 200 grain LSWC, 225 grain lead truncated cone, 230 grain ball, and 230 grain lead ball. No problems at all.

The general consensus is that the Springfields forged in Brazil are top-notch. My personall experience with mine has been wonderful.

Buy it and never look back. Taurus I think is a good gun, but not next to a Springfield.
