Any non reloaders struggling to put .45acp down range?

Ok, this has got to be a trick question. OP's got 3 45acp's goes and buys a new 9mm and then decides he can't afford to shoot the 45acp. The anwser is easy, sell the 9mm to finance shooting and reloading the 3 45acp you own.

The .45acp is the reason I started reloading. It was only after I had been reloading the .45acp for a while did I purchase additional dies for other cartridges.

Using my own tumbled brass (or range pick up in my lane in good condition), I can load 50 rounds of 200gr SWC for around $8 since I purchase most supplies in bulk.

I'm even considering casting my own .452 200gr SWC as the bullets account for a large portion of the costs. I just need to do some research on the precautions of smelting lead before making that decision.

:) I got a chuckle out of that. You make a good point. I had been looking for a gen 4 26 for a while. I didn't figure I'd see one but I did so I snatched it up. LGS still mainly only stocks gen 3's.
I got 4 boxes of .45acp for christmas, but I'm not going to shoot it until I get up the nerve to reload. I read a lot of reloading threads on here and 99% are great. How ever some of the ones I read are scarry to me personally. I recently read on here where a guy had a nice old revolver(cant remember what make and model, but it was nice.) Any way he did something wrong in the process and blew it up, whole top half of the cylinder blew out and he humped the top of the frame.
I'm use to working with tight tolerances every day on my job, but if I"m out of spec I just scrap the part and suffer no personal injury. :)

Reloading is simple and safe. Take an empty fired case and clean it. Remove the primer. Put in a new primer. Bell the case mouth. Put in a precise amount of powder. Seat a bullet. Crimp. Shoot. Repeat.

My Hornady LnL does that at the rate of about 300 per hour. My current .45acp with 200 gr lead bullets costs around $11.50 to $12.00 per hundred.

Books and internet sites have all the recipes you can use. Stay away from the extreme high or low loads.

I reload, and I still don't shoot much 45 ACP. I can get more bang for the buck shooting 40SW as far as recoil and range bag capacity. My targets can't tell much difference, anyway.

I hear you up there to the OP.... IF you shoot 45ACP it turns out to get pretty expensive after a couple boxes....
The main reason why I got into reloading was for 45ACP. It was what I loaded first and learned with.. You should give it a shot, As long as you are the patient type that dosent mind reading A LOT of books. At the least 2 books for reference and a lot of good info on the net that you can verify with your books.
Now I can shoot those "lovely" 230 grain 45 slugs all day long during a range trip. It has cut the price down to about 20-23 cents sometimes less per round and these are plated bullets or FMJ if Im lucky to find for cheap. NOt to mention I can tailor the rounds to a particular gun for immpressive accuracy, If Im having as good day that is.. :) Anyway, Thats 9mm factory ammo pricing.. As far as reloading 9mm goes I dont save as much there, but do save some money, and like the others I gain accuracy over factory rounds. Still manage to wack it down to 12-15 cents a round depending on what I got the compnents for... Which IMO, Is not bad. Now thats something to think about, which Im sure you already have.
B.B.

Out here in the bush I can't even get it mailed in online, has to come checked baggage. Last check was $42 for 50 rounds of .45 locally.

So I put up the P220/1911's and started shooting/carrying 9mm after I moved up here.

The best price I've found is is about $90/250 rounds of UMC at Academy. or $0.36 per. round which is why I started reloading. I'm not too sure I'm saving money, but it dose cost me MUCH less to put a reload down range. I'm pretty sure I'm shooting my "savings". With $8 range fees 10 min from my house, it's almost painful to stare at 200 rounds of freshly minted ammo on the bench. I felt your pain. Of all the things that suck in my life, God clearly smiled on me and said, " It's a Ruger SR1911, for cryin' out loud, I GOTTA let him shoot it." Best wishes in your quest for cheap ammo.
