Can any one tell me what they have found that works well in 300WSN calibur? it would be interesting to hear other peoples findings.:)

I load for three 300WSM rifles and Ramshot Hunter is the powder of choice in all three. Excellent velocity and accuracy is outstanding.

I have tried the 4350s, 4831s, N-560, MagPro, Hunter, MRP, N-165, N-160, R-22 and R-19. Hunter outperformed all others in accuracy and velocity in MY rifles, YMMV. MRP and N-165 are running a real close second in my CZ.

+1 on the Ramshot hunter.

I didn't try as many powders as steve did. I tried 4350 and H414 and finally hunter. The ramshot powder performed excellent and I decided not to look any further.

My rifle favors 165 gr Hornady Interbonds using RL-19, WLRM primers, and Winchester brass. Extremely accurate and just over 3100 fps.

I have been thinking of picking up some 165Gn hornady SST.
As far as i can tell they would make a great moose bullet.
how would the 165 sst's work on deer?
would there be a lot of flight differents between them and the 150Gn sst be nice not to change scope settings

pike hunter:
I used the 165 gn Hornady SST loaded to 3,030 f.p.s. in my A-Bolt last fall. I worked perfectly on 2 does and 1 buck. All dropped without running with heart/lung shot placements and from 65 to 280 yards. All passed through the deer. All left impressive wound channels with large exit wounds.
I would not hesitate to use the 165 gn SST or Interbond on elk. Excellent performance and accuracy in my experience.

Just my 2 cents.

165 gr. Sierra Gamekings and RL19. Excellent accuracy from 2 different guns. Then again I've never had bad luck with a Sierra bullet of any kind.

300 wsm

I use win brass , federal mag primer ,69 grains of RL-22 and 180 gr nosler ballistic tip and i am dead on at 100 yards with a quarter to half inch group out of my browning eclipse 1000. it is awsome !!!!!!!:neener:

pike hunter:

do you belive the bullet exited intact? at 65yrds and 280 yrds.
Intact as in "unmolested", I would say probably not. As in "after mushrooming and retaining sufficient mass for deep penetration", then yes.

From the exit wounds, (and I am not a forensic expert, by the way) it appeared the bullet did not disintegrate upon impact at 65 yards, much to my surprise. The SST is an Interlok design that resists the core separating from the jacket and appeared to have exited with the core and jacket as a unit. (The Interbond is basically the same bullet but the lead core is bonded to the jacket.) We found very few fragments and the exit wound was not what I would expect from a disintegration result.

The polymer tip is designed to initiate expansion at longer ranges, as well as streamline the bullet shape aerodynamically. I believe it, too, performed as designed/advertised on the 280 yarder.

All things considered, the SST's performed exactly as I want them to, and I was pleasantly surprised that they did. I'm going to load them for this fall, too. ;)

I hope this is helpful.

i load 180 gr nosler bt f215m primer 67gr r22powder win brass almost 3000 velocity in my browning stainless stalker. excelent on deer massive damage @ close range and so far up to 180 yards. My father shoots the sst in his 300 mag and has the same results. I wouldnt say through and through shots more like massive exit cavities

Re:.300 WSM loads

There's a lot of great answers here.
My younger and older brother both shoot a .270 WSM; my newest is a .25 WSSM, so I can't add much here except this: if you have time, check out the wssmzone.com forum, which is dedicated to all the short fat magnums.

There's a section there just for the WSM's and lotsa helpful folks who have already helped me a lot.I'm happy to say the same for the fine folks here.

Happy Father's Day!
