I had some issues with the 597 in 22LR. I used different lubricants until I found CLP to be what it liked. Check Rimfirecentral.com. Tons of advice there. Also look at the guide rods. They may be torqued too tight.

I had a LR 597. jammed from day one, sent it back for warranty work. after they replaced the springs and a guide rod, it did better but still wasnt right.

My 597M is more than 5 years old, never cleaned and it has NOT failed to feed, fire, or eject in any way... You just can't judge the M's by what the early LR's were like...

My 597Mag feeds very reliably. The only ammo that dosen't feed well is the CCI 50gr GoldDot load. It will hang up if there are 5 or more rounds in the 7-shot magazine.

Mine is very accurate as well. I did have to glass bed mine after I put it in a Boyds laminated stock. With the Glass bedding and stoning the trigger to about 2.5lbs, It will shoot moa at 100yds with the Winchester 40gr HP and Remington-Vmax 33gr ammo.

I also have a 597 in .22lr. With two of my 3 magazines it will occasionally fail to feed with some ammo. With CCI minimags, it's 100% reliable. Also, I have a 30rd magazine that with "full powered" high-speed LongRifles will feed 100%.

I've never taken down my action, however. If you do take yours down, don't over torque the action rods holding the action springs. If you do, they can bind causing malfunctions.
