Basically what the title says. I havent heard anything but good words about them from the shops. Anyone shot one or own one that has an opinion? Im thinking that or maybe getting a 10-22 and modifying it.

The shop I go to told me it's a great fun little gun and they can't keep it in stock. The only reservation he has is about parts availability and costs but I guess that is the same with all new guns.

This is the same shop that told me to save my money and not buy their Walther G22 and buy the 10/22 at 1/2 the price.

Any shop that is honest enough to tell me not to buy something in their inventory that costs twice as much has my trust.

They are really fun, and accurate..

But for the same price I bought a p22 and ciener ar conversion..

Plus the mags are like $40 each

I'd like one. I wish SBRs were legal in WA. I heard that Gemtech was working on integrally suppressing them, so that might be an option. I guess I could just play with it as-is, though. We'll have to see. It's on the list of someday when I have some cash purchases.

At least you guys in Washington get everything else we can't.
That's true. For the most part I love WA gun laws, or lack there-of. I wish they would do away with the ban on SBRs and machineguns though. And there is a really stupid law where we can buy and attach a suppressor, but we're not allowed to fire rounds through it. Those could all go. Other than that, I love WA state laws. Especially state pre-emption.

The only real reason not to get the rifle is the fact that it's just a range toy.

I have handled one, and they do feel quite nice, but they also cost $500. I have a semi auto .22lr I bought for $45 and it does the same thing.

I'm not saying it's a bad gun; I'm just saying that for the price, you are not getting a whole lot. If you have the money to buy one, then buy one and have fun, I know I would in a second if I had a couple grand sitting in the bank waiting to be spent.

I have one and it is a blast. Feels and handles just as a real MP5 does other than the amount of recoil. I bought it because I have a MP5 Clone and this gives me the same feel with a whole lot less in ammo costs. So far I have had no problems with it. It has cycled everything I have fed it including subsonics.
Now I want the MP5K version they have out.

I have heard that they are great guns. The price isn't as big a deal when you look at the savings in ammo, which you can make up for in just one day of shooting. Compare .22 to 9mm.

If you have a 10/22 you can get a Nordic Kit (an AR design) for it. I put one on mine and liked it enough to buy a Charger and put one on that as well. I finished the Charger this weekend and can't wait to shoot.

I tried not to like it, but have changed my mind. my boss just got one, and there is a 3 side rail made to attach around the fake surpressor, the spare mags were 30 bucks each, and there is a coupler to hold two mags together. so up front he has the tri rail, with a light and a green laser on it. at 50 yds, he was just eating up the center of a target, with the laser on, in evening light.
Very impressed. with the extra weight up front, it keeps muzzle flip to a minimum.

If $500 is not prohibitive then get it. I shoot my GSG-5P more than any other gun I have right now. I'm waiting on the tax stamp to make it an SBR which will make it that much more fun. I also plan to get a suppressor for it. Some will say a .22 that cost 1k is silly and maybe they are right but I thin its fun (and I will be able to use the suppressor else on other guns as well.)

i have a dozen 22 rifles & didnt need a gsg,but i got it anyway & its real cool. it is pretty accurate, too,i bet scoped with standard cci ammo, it could make nice little groups at 25 yards. i put a red dot on it feeling it looked a bit more the way i wanted it. i wish they would come out with a psg-1 version with a heavy barrel, target trigger, adj. stock, that would be the ultimate.i think it would cause more of a stir than the gsg5. they should make one of those instead of the ak clone coming soon....

The GSG-5 is a great value for the money IMHO. The gun is fun as hell to shoot, accurate, cheap to feed and mine has been 100% reliable and I have well over a thousand rounds through by now. I have absolutely no complaints about mine other than the fact that I need a bunch more mags and can't seem to find any. It's a toy but so what? I spent almost as much on a recent bulk load of .223 ammo as I did on the GSG-5 and yet I can buy thousands of rounds for my GSG-5 for next to nothing in comparison.

I love my GSG-5, my buddy who also owns one really loves his as well and every person that shoots either mine or his says "man I gotta get me one of these".

Here's mine....

I've shot one and was not impressed. It feels like an airsoft gun compared to a real MP5. And I'm not just talking about the difference between 22 LR and 9mm. It felt fragile, like I could break it over my knee.

The GSG costs like $500 right? Just get a 10/22 and a Volquartsen trigger pack and maybe a evolution stock. The mags are way more plentiful and there is no shortage of spare parts.

The 10/22 is a great gun. My buddy also owns one of those along with his GSG-5 but as he pointed out once the two rifles are completely different in feel and function. If you want a GSG-5 then get a GSG-5, if you want a 10/22 then get a one of those but getting one doesn't really cancel the other out. Shooting the GSG-5 is a totally different experience than shooting a 10/22....in my opinion that is.

i love my GSG. its a great rifle and yes it does feel like an airsoft toy, but holy crap is it fun. just expect an occasional stovepipe.

I already had two rugers when I bought my gsg-5. I simply like the later more. It has also proven much more reliable than either of the 10/22s. IS that typical? I don't know but it is definately true in my case.

I've got a 10/22 and wanted one of these when they were announced. Started looking at my "Tactical .22" options and decided to get me a Spikes AR-15 dedicated .22 upper (12.5") and a couple of Black Dog mags. instead. Then I really got sucked in and bought an Anvil Arms AR-15 pistol lower and a DPMS Low Pro upper and a 5.5" barrel for .22 In the meantime, I sent off for a tax stamp, made my RRA AR a SBR. I now have to swap my .22 bolt between the pistol and the rifle, but I now also have a 11.5" .223 upper to go with my SBR lower. Oh, I can also install the 5.5" upper on the RRA lower too.
All this just because I wanted a GSG and started looking at my options!
Funny part is, I still want a GSG.....
Now that AR lowers are going for so much, I can probably sell my Anvil Arms lower for the price of the GSG pistol!
(I forgot to mention that I can use my silencer on both the pistol and 12.5" upper for added fun!)

well, if ammo keeps going up and i have to eventually sell one of my more expensive guns to feed, the GSG might be taking its place.

you can't beat the price..

the parts availability thing kinda bothers me though. what happens when problems start happening to them? all guns eventually have problems..

I really like my GSG 5, and I'll probably buy one of their Kalashnikov look-a-likes when they come out. I do have other semi-auto 22s, but there is no substitute for the "cool factor."
