Came across something I didn't know existed today - a SIG P938. Basically, it's a P238 chambered in 9mm - it's slightly larger but not by much.

I'm wondering if any of you out there own one of these fine-looking guns, and if so how do you carry it? I started off pocket carrying a G26 but in the end, it was just too big. Uncomfortably wide for pocket carry. Not too long, not too tall, just too thick. Does the 938 suffer from the same deficiency, or does it lend towards being a nice pocket gun? Obviously it's not as small as an LCP, but it doesn't necessarily have to be, either.

I have one, and I want to love it so bad, but it is not reliable enough for me. Been back to Sig. Still failure to extract every 100 or so rounds, and that is a hard one to clear quickly. Some stovepipes too. It is also hard on my hand, due to placement of safety cutting into base of thumb and trigger finger during recoil.

Everything else I like, good trigger, great sights, accurate. I just can't deal with a pistol that won't go bang all the time. I have used up 700 rounds of my dwindling 9mm ammo trying to break it in and I gave up. I know some others have had better luck, but search around and my story isn't unusual. For that price it should be reliable. Just my experience, not knocking anyone who got a good one.

Is your a 2013 made? Just curious as I read the pre 2013s were problematic, like the 1st gen p238s....supposedly they got 'em fixed now. Granted this is reading, I got no idea....but I do have 2 p238s and both went back to sig...one had to go back 2 times, but...now they run.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I have one, my wife has one, a friend has one. All dead nuts reliable and would buy them again in a heartbeat.

They make an excellent pocket carry firearm, just make sure you get a quality holster.

Which model are you looking at?

Works fine in a jeans pocket in a Ritchie pocket holster. Loaded with six 124 grain Gold Dots in the holster as pictured, the overall weight is 23 ounces. The double mag pouch with 2 loaded six round magazines weighs 10.4 ounces.

If you go that route, be sure to get a recently manufactured gun. I had problems with a 3 digit serial numbered gun, but Sig replaced it with a recent gun that has been 100% for about 375 rounds. Run it fairly wet (a common suggestion for Sigs in general) with the lube that comes with the gun, use full power ammo, and don’t try to go through a Thunder Ranch class without cleaning. Doing these things could forestall the usual gripes I have seen about the gun.

I got it in 2012. You make me hopeful though, so I will send it back again. If it will run, I would happily pay a smith to round the back edges of the safety levers.

I got mine Jan 13. I put 200 rounds thru it and had 0 problems. Tullammo 115, bulk 124, and federal 147 jhp. I read that sig recommends 124 grain, so although I had no problems, I tried black hills 124 hp. That is what I carry in mine and I'm confident with it. Get the extended mag if you can. Still conceals well, and your pinky wont be left out. Ive been using 1911 iwb holsters and they work great. Even my open bottom cz75 holsters work great although the cz is wider.

I have one. Took it out and put 50 rounds through it before I cleaned or lubed it. Out of the box, I had 3-4 failures. Brought it home, cleaned and lubed it. Never a failure of ANY kind since. Accurate, reliable, easy to conceal AND full-sized 9mm. Nice.

I carry it IWB crossdraw in a home-made holster. Love the thing.

Not one in particular just yet, money is tight over the summer while I finish up a few projects. I've discovered over the last year and a half or so that I really just can't/don't IWB carry; it's a combination of my body size/shape (I'm tall and overweight, but most of my weight is in my gut and I have basically no ass or hips to speak of, so my pants sit low when I'm standing and even lower when I sit). Because of this, I've been on the search for the perfect pocket gun. Right now I have an LCP which is perfect for warm weather, but once things turn back to winter in Wisconsin I'll be able to get away with something a little bigger - but I'll never go back to something as wide as the G26 was.

Maybe if I manage to lose weight and get in shape like I've been telling myself I'm going to do for the last 5 years I'll end up with a P220 or a bobtailed commander, but that's not likely.

Plus, I've just always wanted to own a SIG.

Low pants and love handles?

Try the Comp-Tac Infidel holster. I carry a P220 SAS in one and can almost forget it is there at times.

Pocket carry will drag your pants down same as IWB. the P938 is light which helps a bit but getting the weight off your hip and into your pocket does little to help keep your pants up. A good belt should help quite a bit.

The thing that really hooked me on the P938 is it shoots like a full size pistol. Nice sights, decent grips and after a few hundred rounds a pretty decent trigger.

As with most things Sig has been releasing, they let the consumer do a lot of their beta testing. The P938 should have all the bugs worked out of it by now.

Its all metal, so its fairly easy on recoil. The night sights are easy to bring back on target. A little snappy, but I love the trigger. Not DA. Carry cocked and locked 1911 style.

I got a P938 that was made early 2013 and it has not had one hiccup. I love this little 9mm and also have the P238. I have all kinds of holsters for both but I use the Remora holster the most. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1368194207.432450.jpg

Right out of the box my 938 stovepiped on every shot. I dumped it fast. Replaced it with a Kahr Mk Nine Elite which is totally reliable.

Born on date for the Sig? I tried a "broken in" .45 Kahr once with hardball and had 3 completely different types of problems in under 25 rounds. Then I went on a Kahr forum and read pages and pages of pinned "self-fixit" tips to deal with all the problems I encountered. It made my first P938 look like a precision instrument.

I just picked up a P938 today, the Blackwood model. It's a 24xxx serial number so I'm thinking it's recent manufacture.

Already have a P238 Copperhead model that's a great shooter so I'm hoping this one will be as well.

I'll lube it up before shooting it tomorrow. :D

Only fired 30 rounds of my midrange reloads so far. It does tend to jump around some. :D Need to hang on to it. Had one failure to go into battery on the first magazine. :(

Will shoot it some more over the weekend.

I have one of the first batch. I had 3 failures in the first 150 rounds. It's had 1000 rounds + and has not been a problem. Never had a failure with Hollowpoints. However, I feel that the trigger is a bit rough feeling. Because of that, my accuracy is only good out to 20 yards max.

As a pocket carry, I don't have the right pants for it. It tends to protrude out the back pocket and for the front pocket, it is bulky feeling. The P238 has been my pocket carry gun.

We've had rain most every day for the last week so I've not made the range. I do shoot in my side yard, but at the range it's easier to recover my brass. :D Maybe it will be better this week. I have been dry firing a lot to try and get the trigger smoothed some.

Picked one up for the wife 6 weeks ago. It came off the line Feb 2013, at the range last weekend it was 100% reliable, that surprised me because of all the problems I read about online. We ran Remington UMC 115gr (which it's supposed to have major problems with) through it with no problems at all, it also gobbled down some 10 year old Winchester hp 115gr, Federal Hydroshok 124gr and Winchester PDX1 124gr +P all without a failure of any kind... 300+ rounds downrange and dead nutz reliable... I am now saving up for my own as I was quite impressed by this tiny 9mm! It's not as accurate as my CZ 83 or the Storm .40 compact that went to the range with us as well but that might be our total lack of experience with SAO pistols.
As for carry, I had an IWB clip on holster for a bersa thunder that she likes very much. Most of the time she just pockets it and I can barely tell even though she's all of 5'5" and 115# soaking wet...
