Anybody else not shooting enough?

Me.
I did manage to shoot my Muzzle Loader this morning. 245 grain .50 caliber powerbelt brand hollow points blasting downrange in a puff of stinky, acrid smoke.
:D
First time I ever shot that particular firearm. I'm pleased with its performance. Last two shots, with open sights, were overlapping at 100 yards.

Shooting? This year? I wish.

Let's see, I went to visit my parents for 2 days at Christmas and ended up moving in for 5+ weeks to take care of them until I could get them admitted to nursing and assisted living /Alzheimers care. Admitted to a really nice place that is. It's run by Mennonites in Harrisonburg.

Then I started cleaning out their house to put it on the market. Then my father needed back surgery. Then my mother broke her hip. Then my father had his thyroid out at UVA. Then he developed a mild eye infection that's required months of drops that blurred his vision.

I've spent exactly 4 whole weekends at home this year and they were spent trying to catch up on chores and rest, with a few poker games thrown in.

So far I think I've driven 20,000 miles just taking care of their business. I-64 to I-81 and back. At least it's not I-95.

Got the house cleaned out and ready to sell and the market about died. Of course, sorting through the stuff they'd saved during 63 years of marriage took more than a couple weekends and one big yard sale.

Then my father got to move from the nursing unit to assisted living. Bought him a 32" Samsung lcd, new recliner and a cube refrig (with his money.) Then my mother had to be moved from assisted living to nursing/Alzheimer's after she forgot how to walk. She doesn't remember breaking her hip, she just forgot how to move her feet.

I should have simply had my two power of attorney forms tattoo'd on my forehead - it would have saved the money I spent furnishing copies to every realtor, lawyer, bank, credit union, insurance company, trust company, surveyor, contractor, etc.

Shooting? I've bought more guns this year than I've shot. I have piles of ammo spilling out on the floor. I haven't even shot any of the guns my father gave me. Oh well. All in all, everything is fine. I'll be leaving Richmond for Harrisonburg at 8 a.m. Friday morning for another visit. At least we can go out to eat, even if we don't go to the range like we used to. My father will be 86 in January and has decided that he's through with shooting. That's why he gave me all of his guns. Sort of hard to be happy about getting free guns.

I've been shooting a few times this year, but I really felt the crunch and have avoided the range to save money.

However, I now have access to a range for free with my new job and I am planning on making full use of that- I'll be eager to get to work early :D

Trying to make it out to public land to shoot outdoors, but time change is going to make it difficult. Otherwise, I don't have any excuses except my failure to prioritize appropriately. :(

If I could just get out of Korea...

I keep telling myself, "only one more month, only one more month."

I'm lucky in Missoula for places to shoot. I have 2 outdoor ranges with everything from 7 yard pistol lanes out to 1000 yard (not that I use that) plus some open land for chucking pigeons, a skeet club, and some public land all within 20 minutes depending on what I feel like. It's just the time to get to do it.

It's getting to that time of the semester that I'm starting to have alot of tests and projects due along with alot of finals work. Haven't been getting out as much as I want, but hopefully this weekend or next I will be able to make time.

I hear ya. My wife and I are expecting our first within the next week or so. I think my range days are all but over, for a long while at least.
However, I will manage to get out with the rifles before hunting season next fall. Gotta put meat in the freezer ya know.

Today was the first time in over a year! I took my son with me. We found Some public land that most of the other poor folks must go. We zeroed his
.300WSM , and shot a couple of boxes of 12ga. #7 1/2. After that We did some off road hill climbing with his Jeep Wrangler. Now that's my kind of fun!!

Can't wait for next time.

in the space of a month 22winmag ammo went from 6.99 to 11.99. makes a big diff. sign at local gun shop says ammo prices will double after first of year

I've got plenty of ammo, but time is scarce.
Same here. I've shot four times in the last 6 months and two of those sessions were quickies in my back yard with a 22. I feel like my guns are rusting away and my abilities are going stale or something.

oklahoma caveman...price will DOUBLE after the new year! That is depressing to say the least! My dealers says it is actually the price of metal. Man, they got an excuse to raise the price on everything and justify it some how!

JohnBT, I don't know you, but I have been there. You have my sympathy and understanding. It is a part of life many of us must go through. Wife and I did the same. Not that it makes it better, but I feel for you. Hang in there and continue to do the right thing.

I haven't been shooting nearly as much as I'd like to, either handguns nor rifles. For one I'm just way too busy with work and of course current ammo prices have taken their toll. I need to start reloading but I don't have time for that either and I can't spend the money right now on all the equipment I would need to get started.

Damn I wish I were retired:banghead:

Have not shot in about six months. Going to take my son to the range for his first time this weekend. Looking forward to it!

Funny you post thiis today as I went to the indoor range after work. First time in about 3 months. Put just under a 100 rounds through my carry gun. I don't like going more than a month without shootting but I have been lax.

Now as far as recreational shooting it's been longer. I need to get out soon and bust some clays and/or do some paper punching with a rifle or two.

I haven't shot anything larger than a BB gun since a week before my treestand accident (Sept. 22). Broke my back and had titanium rods put in. Still in a brace and the docs still won't let me shoot. I'm usually a 2-3 times a week shooter and this lag time is killing me. I go back to the docs on the 16th and I'm hoping I can at least get clearance for rimfires. Hopefully for .243 so I can deer hunt a little before the season is over.

I have been shooting in sooo long. I go to school in NH and my parents just moved from NH to TX. Needless to say all my guns went with them (can't keep 'em in the dorm). So it's been a solid 5 months or so. The real problem is that I bought two new (well, not 'new'...new to me) rifles, a M38 and a K31 that I have yet to shoot at all.

But I am flying down for Turkey Day so hopefully much of that time will be spent at the range :D.

I find that (Oh Man, I can't believe I'm saying this) I don't much care about it anymore. I've got a buddy that shoots all the time and gets on to me about not, but it doesn't make me happy anymore. My son, DIL and I (my youngest & his GF couldn't make it) did go out this past week and I did shoot 10 rounds through "Boomer", my new to me 629-1. That did put a smile on my face. But I found that I enjoyed helping him & her shoot more than I wanted to shoot myself. Hopefully it will pass.

I have not shot for a while now....the bloody ammo prices in my neck of the woods have goon through the roof. For some of the Hi-power rifle ammo i am paying almost twice as much as in the beginning of the year
Whats even worse is when i talk to people about having to go hunting because deer and moose calf season are closing soon they look at me as if i said i was going to shoot there dog :scrutiny:
What is with people nowadays. have they completely forgotten where we humans came from not to long ago:confused:
