Anybody go shooting for the 4th?

I have a big pile of debris (basically fallen tree limbs and tree trunks) in the back corner of my lot that is a perfect backstop. So some friends of mine brought over some CD-ROMs and hard drives that had old medical records that needed to be destroyed (they do networking for doctors clinics). They brought with them 5 boxes of Value Pack .40 cal (business expense :D ) and we spent the afternoon destroying medical records :D :D

Shot my Finn M28/30 for the first time - sub 2" groups at 100 meters with surplus ammo. A real joy to shoot.

Yep, took my G19 and G23 to the range. Not too many people at the range so it was nice. Just wish they would air condition their indoor range.

Took my dad for his second trip to the Trap range. Shot 2 rounds of Wobble trap and 1 round of 5 Stand. He askes how much for a shotgun and can your sister use that 20 gauge I just brought back from CA. Also, he wants to go to Galyans and pick up a case of shells for him to use instead of borrowing mine. Looks like I have a convert here. Not bad from flipping out last year when he learned that I have a Black Rifle.

Went today to the rimfire rifle section of the range. Shot about 100 or so rounds. Only two people there besides myself. Started to get hot though, so went into the air conditioned club house and B.S.'d for awhile.

Went to the rifle range for a change (I'm more of a handgunner) and sighted in the new (to me) Ruger M-77 RSI in 308. Nice little rifle but it does jump at your shoulder from the bech. Also did some more shooting with the Ruger V/T Police. Can't decide if this gun shoots or if I've lost my touch with age. Also fired the heavy barrel AR-15 Sporter II. Good and bad. Good was I hit the gong at 500 meters with the 223 on the first shot. Bad, I learned the hammer pin walks out in about 20-25 rounds. Guess I'll have to invest in those anti-walk pins I saw in Brownells.
Happy 4th! Remember, freedom isn't free!!

:( I've been off since 6/27...I go back to work 7/8...I haven't had a chance to get to the range yet! :( Something GOT to change. This is killin' me!
Mark.

Of course! I love the irony of living in a state that allows me to carry w/out a permit and shoot in my backyard but doesnt allow fireworks!
I dont usually shoot on holidays or weekends in deference to my very tolerent neighbors (I work nights) but the 4th is the exception. I shot about 200rnds thru the SKS and 150 thru the 77/22 and a few thru the .44 SRH. I also posted the Declaration of Independence (downloaded from THR)in the lobby of the hotel in which I work, so I feel I did my duty.

We always shoot on the 4th. After dinner and before the fireworks. This year I have a 17 year old cousin who wants to join the Marines. He had never shot anything before so I let him and his 14 year old sister shoot the Marlin 22 and then the AR. His dad(multi phd but not really anti-gun) wasn't really happy at first but finally relented, his mom was fine with it. They both had a blast. I think his sister did better than him. They had never shot off fireworks before either so they also enjoyed that. I got to enjoy the fireworks from a chair with a cold tea for once. I have another cousin home safely from Iraq in time for the 4th so it was a good day.

All of them (but on the 5th)- my Marlin 60, my SAR-1 and my newly acquired M44.

The M44 kicks a bit, but my goodness...nobody told me about the muzzle flash! :what:

Yep. Some friends came down on the 3rd to stay the weekend, the conversation turned to guns and one piped up "I've never been shooting, and I've been trying to get my friends that shoot to take me for years." So, we went shooting the next day, and had a very good time. It's a great thing initiating another shooter into the world of firearms and teaching them how to safely handle them as well.
