Anybody got experience with the Mossberg MVP Patrol Rifle?

good deal, hope your experience is better than mine.

I do also. One of the first things I did was get a few different magazines and try feeding rounds through the rifle. One thing I like about this gun is you can cycle the action with live rounds while the safety is on. (It was pointed in a safe direction, finger off trigger and all of the other applicable rules were followed, yada, yada, yada......)

I tried 10 rounds in the factory magazine and 30 in both PMags and GI issue magazines. (I almost wrote 'clips' to get a rise out of some people, LOL) I did not try any of the hi-capacity magazines I have because I did not feel like loading that many rounds and don't think I will ever put the 100 or 120 rounders under it.

Not a single malfunction in about 85+/- cycles with factory ammo. Note: This was on my couch, not on the range after firing actual rounds. Might have time to hit the range next week, did not have any this weekend. My hopes are it does not make any difference.

Question for those of you that have these. Have you had any issue with the trigger guard or mag. well? Just wondering if I need to order one of the Tromix aluminum guards/wells in anticipation of them cracking later. (Had issues with a Mossberg plastic trigger guard in the past. Hoping the material used today is a lot better in long term performance than that decades ago.)

What about that little lip that hinges down to pick up cartridges from the magazine? Is Mossberg still not selling replacement parts to us minions? Thinking that those item are the weak spots, plus an extra firing pin. Might plan ahead and put some extra parts away for later.

Ok finally got to put some live rounds through it. No issues at all.

Only able to shoot at some non-traditional targets as we were in the country and did not have any paper targets to really see what it could do. Had a couple of binary type targets and other things. Got to fire about 30 rounds.

Shot a inch or so high from what I could tell at 75 yards with Israeli green tips. Don't quite know where I hit on the plastic jar on the second shot as it went up in smoke immediately upon hitting the powder in the bottom. Think the first shot hit the top, but did not get where it needed to be to ignite it. Second shot did the trick.

Found a nice shotgun pouch for the stock, the shell loops are Velcro'd on so they came off easily. The cushion on the cheek is nice. Ample storage for a 10 round PMag in the pouch if needed. Probably just put a bore snake, some Remington oil wipes and extra ear protection in it for now.

Bought a few PMags in 'Sand' color. Those are the ones that you can dye with regular grocery store clothing dye. Instead of that hassle, just went with some Krylon I had in the garage. Got lucky with a pretty close match. Being somewhat color blind helps that also. Almost got a full set, all painted to match, 10, 20, 30 and a 40 rounders dedicated for this rifle (will probably hold off on the drum, already have some Chinese 120 rounders if I want to get obnoxious). No feeding issues with any of them.

The strap is a cheap MidwayUSA model with the advertising tag removed and some QD swivels. Going to use it for carrying the rifle, not as a shooting aid.

Last thing, swapped out the standard AR flash-hider for a YHM Muzzle Brake that is threaded for a can. I've decided on that type of threads for my next suppressor build. It did boost the sound level, when standing beside it, over that of my buddies AR, but not real bad. It definitely does not suppress the flash. You are able to distinctly make out two separate flashes, one in each chamber when the rifle fires, even in broad daylight.

Kept getting asked if I was going to put a scope on it, not now. I like the way it shoots with open sights. Think I am pretty much done accessorizing it for now (other than some moral patches to put on that wide expanse of Velcro). Probably take the rail off this evening.

Real satisfied with the purchase process, the rifle and it's color. Glad I spent a little more to get the lighter colored stock, even though it made finding the accouterments a bit harder.

Nice looking gun! I am looking for a 5.56 bolt gun too... Between this and the Ruger predator... hope to see more range reports

I traded for an MVP Predator a while back, and I love mine. I was looking for a bolt gun to use as a range buddy for my ARs, for when we felt like some precision plinking or introducing new people to guns, like you. Our range only goes to 200, but I have no trouble hitting the 2" steel hangers at 200 from a rest. I love mine, and I would definitely buy one again.
