Looking at building a very, very light carbine, just for fun and need to order an upper receiver. I'm wondering if anyone knows the weights of A2, A1, and flat-top uppers (forward assist versions).

I don't know weights, but if you want really light, you want a pencil barrel, or lightweight barrel, and a light forearm. Think carbon fiber.

I have no idea of the weight of my .300 BLK, but it is very light, even with the scope on it. The lightweight barrel with no front sight, just a low profile gas block, is most of the reason why.

I can weigh it later.

Yep, that's the plan. Pencil barrel (.223) & carbon fiber.

Just don't know how much uppers weigh. I'm trying to shave every ounce of weight that I can.

Hmmm... Are your scope rings mounted backwards?

Forged flat tops are the lightest. Billet is usually heavier.

The DPMS sportical upper is heavier than a milspec upper receiver. Due to its thicker walls.

The forged low pro flat tops are the lightest (other than DPMS).
