I posted this over on rimfire central but didn't get any hits. Thought I'd try casting a wider net.

has anybody tried making witness holes or a window in their bx-25 mag so you can get a rough round count??

something like this ?

looks like it could be fairly easily accomplished on the right side of the mag

I've been thinking about doing it, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel if somebody already tried and knows whether or not it works.

I have some $10 clear mags and have never had an issue with them, it's just that general opinion seems to be that most folks practically wet themselves saying how awesome the bx25's are, and they really could use a window or witness holes. And we can't ever rule out the almost overwhelming urge to tinker......

Yep, done it and it works perfectly fine. Just lined up 25 rounds on the follower w/o the spring. Drilled a small hole where the head of the 25th round sits.

Sounds like a great idea!

I am very happy with my clear butler creek steel lips (actually like it more than the bx-25) but I may have to go mod my bx-25 now....

And we can't ever rule out the almost overwhelming urge to tinker......

Sure can't!
