Davidson's Gun Locator

I have used them several times. They are not the lowest in prices if you really look around the net, but their prices are all inclusive (including the transfer fee) and fair. What I like about them is the fact that I don't have to go begging to my local FFL to accept the transfer. Most of the FFL's in my area are a bunch of jerks. Davidson's ships very quick by overnight delivery and provide excellent email communication and tracking information. Their service never disappointed me.

Yes.Excellent site.
They give a realistic idea of prices within your zip code(or even farther )range. You get a real comparision of dealer price in your area.
I been very pleased with their results and have bought 5 firearms through the site.
What's not to like?
Kiffney's Firearms in Key Largo,FL may have about the best prices on the web.
Total disclosure:I receive no kickback from Tom Kiffney!Owned by a Monroe County Dept. Sheriff.
http://www.kiffneys.com/

I bought three guns from them and sent all three back for a replacement, which took several weeks each, there are better places to buy guns. The Smith and Wesson 22A i recieved from them was used, the recoil buffer looked like 200+ rounds had been fired through it and the barrel was filthy as was the breech face...will never use them again

I've used them once. It was a pretty good experience, and I'd do it again if they have something I want.

I check prices there all the time, but have never tried to order from them. I asked the local gun shop about using them, and was told they add a transfer fee to the on line price. So much for that idea.

I have never paid a transfer fee picking up the firearm at my local(Key Largo Fl).dealer.
So much for that erroneous B.S. information.

How Davidsons works is that shops sign up with them and tell them their markup and what the sales tax in their area is, shipping costs are also figured in. When someone finds a gun on the site they want, they put down a deposit with Davidsons and Davidsons ships the gun to the participating shop nearest the customer. You pay the dealer the balance....what the price on the web site said, nothing extra.

Either the dealer you spoke to is not a participating dealer, or he is just ripping off his customers and violating his agreement with Davidsons.

I rarely buy new guns, but if I do I like Davidsons. Its easy to find what I want and I like the guarantee.

I've used them. No surprises, everything went off as expected. What they quote is what you pay, though that might be more than other places.

Thats a Davidson's Gold Level Dealer. I do not buy 10k per year from them so I do not have my shopping cart hooked to theirs. I do get some sales from my link to their catalog.

Average profit from a gun sale runs about 5.00 to as high as 20.00

I use it mostly for comparison shopping. Between actual visits to gun stores, Davidson's, and sites like Gunbroker, you can get a rough idea of current market values.

That's davidsons website...they are probably the largest and oldest wholesaler (we use them and Ellet bros. a lot) The gun locator is basically just an online catalogue but dealers (like us) have set up pricing guidlines so you can shop and even order online and get a gun on iot's way straight from the wholesaler...I've never had ANY problems from them on guns...in fact they offer a lifetime replacement policy on any gun you buy through them. As far as the used smith thing goes nearly EVERYTHING I've gotten from S&W lately has looked like crap....I just sold another 686 yesterday that looked like a used gun to me (2 in a row for their flagship magnum that looked that way) the hogue grip screw looked beat up and worn....poor polish (looked like almost like light holster wear/swirrels) Obviously had more than 3 test rounds on it from the amou7nt of crud in the gun...and the last one I got came from a completely different wholesaler. (ellet bros or bangers....can't recall for sure)

We have our online pricing setup to be lower than I would ever order one for in the store...but it undercuts every other dealer in 90 minutes of us and brings in the occassional new customer. It works well for us...they send a check for your downpayment to the dealer (saves us CC fees which is nice) and you pick up the balance at the store . We probably only sell a few each month that way overall but many customers like looking at the different models on their website. They are also THE Ruger wholesaler...so if you are ever looking for a new model Ruger that is hard to fin or a recently discontinued one you need to check them first...if they didn't get it or have it likely nobody will. Other wholesalers are sometimes a bit cheaper...but sometimes they are the cheapest depending on a given make and model. They are deffinately an OK source though. They've been around a long time and are not going anywhere. (they are a bit high on shipping though...the individual dealer determines all that on the pricing info you see though...not them)

I have only used Davidsons for "special editions" now and then.

As mentioned they are by far the biggest wholesaler around and the manufacturers, seems like S&W especially, make special runs with different engraving or finishes or whatever that they only sell through Davidsons.

Usually nothing real earth shaking but every once in a while you'll see something unusual.

So much for that erroneous B.S. information.

I'm sorry, just what was erroneous or BS with what I posted?
I asked the counter guy about using the web site.
He understood what web page I was talking about.
He told me they added a transfer fee.
That made me decide, that if I ever wanted to use the web page to order a firearm, I wouldn't use them as the dealer.

I would think they have to be a participating dealer since their name comes up when you check prices. I'm afraid the second possibility you mentioned is much more likely.

Your dealer was wrong, hence you were passing on incorrect information.
I didn't mean to hurt YOUR feelings which I guess I did.
Sorry about that. And Gator WAS correct as usual. He's a lot more diplomatic.

I used them when I got my Ruger Blackhawk 4-5/8" .41 Mag.

I felt I got a good price ($370) and the item arrived the day after I ordered it (of course Davidson's is just across town from here).

The transfer fees are the additional fees noted in the quoted price(these are the dealers charges not Davidson's!)

Here are quotes for the same gun (Ruger Single Six) from two different dealers the main price difference is additional fees.

Sale Price $380.00

Addt'l Fees $19.95

Tax $22.80

Sub Total $422.75

(Less Deposit) ($125.75)

Balance $297.00

Sale Price $413.99

Addt'l Fees $52.45

Tax $24.84

Sub Total $491.28

(Less Deposit) ($125.75)

Balance $365.53

If you are asked to pay anymore than this quoted price it is added on by the dealer

i have bought several guns through davidsons over the years. Never a problem or a debate regarding customer service. I had one of the infamous Ruger P-97's that had the slide lock problem. Brought it back to the dealer and within 48 hours had a brand new gun. Purchased a Glock 27 from a gun shop (not through gallery of Guns) The gun shop owner told me it was a davidson's gun. I called davidsons, gave them the serial#, they confirmed it was their gun and the same lifetime warranty applied. About a year later the glock broken rails issue came up. This 27 was affected by the upgrade. everyone had to send their guns to glock for upgrade. I was about to send mine in and wait the 3-4 weeks to get back the upgraded frame, when I remembered the guarantee. Only hitch was I moved from Tucson to Virginia and couldn't bring it back to the dealer I bought it from. I contacted davidsons, and they arranged the replacement through another one of their dealers close to where I live. within 48 hours brand new glock, no transfer fee or shipping. Needless to say I am a davidsons fan and the FFL in VA was the armory in Virginia Beach, VA. I have bought all my guns from Marie at the armory since.

Winchester73, No worries.
My only point was that reporting on BS doesn't make the report itself BS. Probably could have been more diplomatic myself.:)
That's what I get for posting from work when I'm having one of "Those Day's"

thumbody, You're correct about the "additional fees" in the quote.
The dealer I was talking to added his transfer fee on top of that.

I keep entering their gun giveaway but instead of free Colts and Glocks I'm getting a free subscription to Shooting Times
