Anyone arm themselves at Home?

My 1911 stays on my hip unless I'm in bed for the night, in which case it's on the nightstand next to my head. It may come off as paranoid to some, but the way I see it, my chances of needing a firearm at home are greater than they are when I'm out because I spend so much more time at home than I do out.
Same here

Always

A hand gun on the night stand an ankle holster goes on after I get dressed, it's not the same night stand firearm, and comes off when I got to bed.Have a youth model 20ga with 2rd ext in a concealed place in the main room. Why...because I'm a law abiding productive member of society and it's my right to feel safe in my home.

I always have a pistol in close proximity at home. I have a 18 mo. old who is into anything and everything she can get her hands on, so home carry and exposed "sitting" guns are a no-go. Luckily I live in a very low crime town, but I still maintain situational awareness......

I also sell stuff on Craigslist from time to time, so the deals are always done in the garage with no mention of family members at home, and a pistol within short reach if not on me.

How willing and able are you to shoot to kill a home invader that will not stop?
I'll shoot to stop if and when that terrible night ever comes. On that I am very able and quite willing, as I am not just protecting myself, but someone that I'm sometimes told I'm overly protective of.

When I take the dogs out at night which is usually several times I am.

I also trek back and forth to the garage which is not attached to the house. It is where I reload and I am then also.

My being armed around the house is something the family just takes for granted.

Yup, if Im dressed theres a SIG at my side, and most days I have a rifle etc within reach or at least in the same room

Prepared to shoot to kill

Gym: I put the question out for consideration for all of the folks in the forum. I have some personal experience with this issue and i agree that one should have a plan. I also believe that each of us should have set very simple conditions to instigate deadly force. For me personally if you break into my home, if I find you in my home, or you get too close to me or my family I will shoot to kill. i was working in Vero in 2004 and 2005 during the hurricanes and had to confront potential looters. I have worked in Boca and there are so folks with a lot of money you muat constantly on alert. Finally, remember the holiday family murder in Jupiter in 2009? A survivor lived in the building I managed. I carried on my person and in my briefcase. I often wondered if anyone else in the building was armed.

I always have my handgun within reach. At night the hangun in under the pillow next to me and my double barrel shot gun with buckshot is also next to me. Always. I keep my bedroom door locked so I figure I will hear then and be waiting with the shotgun. I hope I do not have to ever shoot cause I would really hate to run my great glass arched door and plus they would probably end up going over the very nice custom made landing rail and fall with a nausating sound about 20 feet on the tile floor below. When i the shower the hand gun is within reach also.

Hi Jim,
I am glad you clarified that, didn't mean to offend you in ay way and if I did I apologize. I just get a bit carried away when "some" folks who have weapons for self defense, "not you," ask or say they aren't sure what they would do. To me once you are in my house, as you clarified, they already made that choice for me. I don't sanction killing anyone, but if it happens during an altercation where a person or persons break into the sanctuary of ones home, all bets are off. It's going to happen so fast that it's over before I and type a sentance. That's why I always stress being ready, you don't have to do too much to be prepared. Just an trip to the range shooting at 5 to 30, ft, once a month, and knowing where your guns are if you don't carry at home as Kim mentioned. Then you at least have a good chance of surviving. Most freaks who do this stuff are going to be high, "unless they are pro's", and very unpredictiable, there is no gaurantee that they won't kill everyone even if they get what they came for. So at that point you only have something to gain by as we all seem to agree, being ready. There really is no downside unles you have young children or an elder who is unstable. But even then, a handgun safe that opens in a second, will work wonders. I had the World Gym down near where you worked, in Deerfield, back in 2000. I remember the zombies walking around after a week with no power. It looked like one of those movies that seem to come out daily. Gangs were roaming the streets taking whatever they needed. That was only a week, I couldn't imagine if something like that happend on a national level. We got to see people at their worse. They were broke, hungry, tired and swealtering hot. No phones no nothing. You remember that I am sure. But NYC is where I had most of my confrontations, because of being in a business in a mixed area, and carrying cash all the time, before CC became popular. After twenty years people know who you are and where you live, and back then it was a lot easier to get away with robberies, no cameras, few cell phones, and alarm systems. And very few people carried in the 70's-80 in NYC. So it was really a free ride for bad guys.
That's why we are so fortunate to have more gun friendlly laws now. The average guy can put a stop to most crimes that befall him. The more honest citizens who have weapons, the safer we as a society are, imho.
But we also have some foolish laws that need to be refined and some need to change.

Just a good habit to be in rather than taking it on and off...

I'll stop carrying at home when I can start seeing into the future as to when I'll be robbed or attacked...

Meanwhile, my life experience and training and profession says that bad people are literally everywhere and you have to be ready to defend the most important things - your life and family's lives.

Also, I've been in scary situations with people and with animals (e.g. stray big mean looking dogs) on or near my property and am always glad I'm armed.

It would be a real bummer if you were upstairs and someone broke in and got your shotgun you store downstairs, for instance...

What would be the point of having a gun for hd and not having it either on you or near you? sure you can put it in the bedside drawer, but when you are in the living room and someone breaks in and cuts you down before you can get to the bedroom? so much for protecting your home.

In my bedroom are a 12 ga. and an AK on a wall rack. There is also a 38 revolver in the drawer next to the bed. I also have a locked guncase with 2 more revolvers, another shotty, and 4 rifles. There is another auto pistol in by my computer and a second by my recliner.
