Anyone beat Cheaperthandirt for ammo price?

There are a few online vendors who more of than not, do. The appeal of CTD for me is their occasional deals on surplus ammo.

Also, CTD is within driving distance for me, so if there's a sweet deal to be had, it's a road trip.

One would be ammunitiontogo.com

I just ordered from Able Ammo (http://www.ableammo.com) after shopping around a good bit. I just wanted a couple different boxes of 8mm Mauser to experiment with and collect brass from so I wasn't ordering in large quantities. With shipping they were the cheapest of about six different sites I checked. Quick service too - I ordered Sunday and the tracking number says it will be delivered today.

I just got some 5.56 from Aimsurplus for a good price - free shipping too.

I find CTD to be great on ammo prices. I got a whole bunch of .22WMR for a great price.

Also a good place to buy ammo (when they have it on a good sale price) is Cabela's. I have gotten a lot of ammo from them as well.

+1 for http://gun-deals.com/ammo Just plug in the caliber you're looking for and it shows you a comparision of most popular vendors with the ones mentioned in this thread included. That said I usually find www.SGAmmo.com beats CheaperThanDirt most of the time and if they don't their shipping usually makes up the difference and then some. Especially since CheaperThanDirt has multiple warehouses they ship from generating an additional shipping charge if you order items from multiple warehouses in the same order. Then there's the new $2.99 manditory "Handling" formally called "Package Protection" but changed within the last few months.

I've purchased about $6 or $7,000 dollars worth of ammo and various other things from CheaperThanDirt this year over about 8 orders and had so many problems with misrepresented items, incorrect charges and just plain bad service overall I will never use them again. I was impressed the first order but that didn't last long. Not to mention the price gouging I've since heard they did after the last presidential election. Never again.

I used SGammo recently and couldn't of been happier. Way cheaper than CTD. Fast service too.

Ammunitiontogo is pretty good too.

I only use cheaperthandirt when other places are priced to high or out of stock.

depends on which ammo really. Sometimes something's cheaper somewhere else, sometimes it's not. And all of that depends on how much THEY are paying for it. Shop.
(that said, Aim surplus is the only person selling reloadable 7.62 nagant so I ordered from them)

well carter i need to check that out. i have been using cheaper than dirt for 12 years. guess i need to look around.

You never mentioned what Caliber/s you're looking for. That would maybe get you more specific answers. Gun-Deals has a lot of hunting calibers. I hunt and I'm telling you Gun-Deals has saved me thousands.

SGAmmo.com is my favorite, they have very competitive prices, and are REALLY fast with the shipping.

Problem is, they don't sell 30-06 usually. That stuff is a PITA to get if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg.

You need to be hand crafting every 30-06 round that travels through your barrel. :)

A decent single stage press is not expensive; nor are the dies and bushings.

Seriously. You won't save money but you'll shoot more at the same cost. Even if you opt not to shoot more, you will still have a round developed that will perform fantastic in your rifle and much more so than any factory round you can purchase. Factories cannot fine tune loads to your rifle but you can.

I just bought some 9mm ammo from J&G Sales. This 124-grain GECO/RUAG 9mm came highly recommended for P210s - they're both Swiss - and it's only $10 a box if you order enough. Shipping was $67 from AZ to VA, but I bought 60 boxes. It's a reloadable and bi-metal jacketed FMJ. It is not steel core.

RUAG now includes GECO, RWS, Hirtenberger, Norma and other brands.

Aimsurplus, Centerfire systems, J&G sales for some stuff. I always look at everything and everywhere but usually it is one of those 3 I purchase from.

not very often, even so, i am fairly loyal to CTD. but just for the sake of coversation i see that aimsurplas.com has spam cans of 7.62x54r cheaper than CTD. gotta love CTD though. these cs and shipping dept is top notch.

CheaperThanDirt's shipping is what gets you. I generally don't shop there anymore because, in my experience, other places usually have what I want cheaper. The main reason I go there is to get reviews on products I'm looking at buying elsewhere. Their review system is the only thing that really shines.

Food for thought: an old .30 caliber ammo can perfectly holds EXACTLY 500 rounds of Wolf 7.62x39 in their individual 20-round boxes, with no room to spare. This makes it a perfect range box. Not too heavy, not too bulky, and has a handle.
