Anyone care to see the “assault weapons ban of 2018”?

The country is so polarized I don't take anything for granted.

A bill proposed as such won't pass. I do realize that the coasts tend to view the middle of the country as the annoying thing that produces the gluten and carbs they can't eat thay they have to fly over to get to actually real culture (kidding), but there a lot of gun owning democratic leaders that MAY side on restricting magazine size and types of firearms, but they aren't going to go that far.

Even still, we need to be careful disparaging the young voices even if they are railing against what many on this board hold very dear. These kids are going to be voters. Unlike the Gen Xers or first crop of Millennials, this is a group I feel is so integrated into the power of social media that is not difficult to see them effortlessly push their agenda.

Now, we can keep banging on them being young and for having issues with guns, but we should be careful with this line of thinking. I don't agree with them, but we have to acknowledge their pain and point of view.

I look at it this way: If someone with a pitbull broke into my school and instructed that dog to maul 14 people to death, I would probably be leery if anyone who owned one. Now, logically, I know that all Pits are not bad dogs, but I would probably be pretty adverse to them in that situation.

IMHO, and this is a largely uninformed opinion, the best way to combat knee jerk gun control measures is to realize that it really isn't knee-jerk. Sandy Hook, nothing came of it. Florida night club, nada. Vegas, nothing was done. Bunch of folks shot up while worshipping, nope.

I'm not saying that anything extra needed to be done, but we need to understand that this shooting was probably a tipping point. We have a real choice to make here. We can dig our heels in and not give an inch and lose a lot in 2018 and/or 2020, or we can seem like reasonable enthusiasts.

I'm not saying that banning or limiting is the only way to go. We don't need to concede, but we should at least come to the table to make sure measures like the ones proposed don't pass.

I hate to say it, but ear mark politics may be the only way to insure our hobby/sport continues.

Finally, I 100% agree that getting more young folks into the sport would do wonders. Do it in a safe and controlled way. Self police unsafe shooters acting ungentlemanly. The 2nd may not be infringed, but I don't need a redneck muzzle sweeping me and mag dumping next to me. Let's turn this into a sport/hobby with manners and class once again. If we don't paint a better picture of ourselves, it makes it a lot easier to pass legislation against firearms.

I’ll bet they keep this document on file and bust it out for special occasions.
They're staking out the territory for the next elections, as they always do.

I believe the gun issue will be important this fall, and in ways that won't help us. The districts that are in play are suburban swing districts, exactly the kind of places where antigun sentiment runs strong. This is why the Democrats are pushing the gun issue.

Here is the latest attempt at an assault weapons ban with over 150 supporters in the House.

Out of 435 members, that’s almost 35%. Can’t even get all Democrats on board, they must be thinking about November. They are not as stupid as I thought.

On to the next story that isn’t a story at all....

I would not worry if they don't do it now there will be a new bunch of voters who are now high school kids eligible to vote in 2020 presidential elections and some in 2018 mid-term ones. They will take care of firearm crime, "gun show" loopholes for us...... I don't own any assault-style rifles and am perfectly satisfied with magazine capacity of 10 or less (my Remington 1100 holds four in the magazine) and feel I should not loose my rights in the future because of wishes of some. Pleeeese stop telling me you need AR-15 or AKM with 30 or 40 round magazines because it may protect you from some tyrannical government in the future. Semi-automatic rifles like that in hands of civilians against: tanks, APCs, helicopters with night and thermal capabilities,.....is suicide made easy. That is why some on the left think some right wing people are loonies.
So as long as you can have your shotgun the rest of us can get bent? I thought all shooters were supposed to be on the same team. So much for solidarity.
I'll keep my ARs and 30 round mags.
Like I said in another post, we haven't needed them yet because we DO have them. Imagine if we had no 2A, tyranny is human nature.

Very nice weather yesterday; went to a local public range for some fine tuning. The “Bubba’s” had the same idea, out in droves. Every single group had at least one bump stock equipped semi-auto and many 30 round mags; in between the shooting madness and concussions of the mag dumps - muzzles were pointing everywhere, the loud conversations were of the constant “F” bombs and back woods crude maleness - all these boys were on the very obnoxious side. It dawned on me very quickly why the anti’s may think the way they do - I was surrounded by primates with guns. I know that I was at a public range and those kinds of people outnumber the studious sportsman but OMG! I saw the other sides point - no wonder they want the guns - just unbelievable! Thank you for allowing me to vent.
These same kinds of people populate the gun shows that I go to. I would say that 3/4 of the attendees are people that I would not want to be seen with socially. But what can you do? Without the numbers of such "deplorables," gun rights would have been sunk long ago.

Rest assured that every AR sold after the last panic subsided was sold at a loss. I remember Bass Pro selling standard M&P’s for $1,200. Should this happen again, be patient, and reload.

Price fluctuations are a feature of every market. Frankly, this market is just weird because the things that drive it are so volatile.

Since I stocked up over the last year I can just sit back and watch what happens.

That is exactly what a main part of the purpose of the 2A is about whether you like it or think it’s loony or not. I don’t care what you think the odds are of a civilian force is against a military is, I know for a fact that a 30 million strong civilian force armed with weapons of any kind is a force to be reckoned with regardless of a militaries might, period. And I know for a fact that if a tyrannical government cropped up here in the USA that there would be military resources and technology on both sides of the fight as I guarantee the majority of our military are patriots and would start to recognize tyranny for what it is and serve the constitution and the people in time.

So don’t continue telling me the 2A is not about a defense of tyranny as those who wrote it who were smarter than you, knew the value of a rifle in a free mans hand. The continental army with their Kentucky rifles and pickup brown bess' went against one of the greatest military strengths of its time without highly trained officers, no navy, very little cannons etc. and repelled the tyranny they were faced with.

We, today would be much better situated to defend our country from tyranny as we have countless civilians who have military experience, homes with supplies of ammo and weapons to engage a start to a defense of this nation. And hopefully we still have enough patriots to hold out a fight until we can gain access to greater technology and supplies and in the end allies and believers of a free USA will come to our aid in the form of military leaving their post to form up and other ally countries aid in our attempt to maintain the essence of this great country and its constitution and bill of rights from a domestic threat.

I find that I agree with very little of your posts @PabloJ, but that’s alright we still have a the 1A to voice our opinions.

I will continue to tell those around me that the 2A isn’t just about hunting for rabbits and game and for self defense against common thieves and murderers. The most important reason remains that it serves as a serious threat to anyone wanting to take our liberties away in the form of tyranny. It saddens to me that people have views such as yourself that fighting against tyranny is a losing proposition, I hope in this great country people of your view are few.

Absolutely.

And the listing of prohibited/permitted weapons is in serious need of updating.

This doesn't have a snowball's chance of getting any traction, but it does show that the freedom haters never give up, thus our need for constant vigilance.

They keep working to distance themselves from voters.
  • They pissed off Sanders progressive supporters
  • They pissed off DACA/Imigration supporters
  • They pissed off vets needing healthcare
  • They pissed off tax payers
And now they are pissing off gun owners who will likely vote in future elections for sure.

And like Obama and Hillary, the Democrats once again are boosting the firearms/shooting industry.:thumbup::thumbup:

Keep up the great work!

They always have that. Supposing it got out of committee (fat chance), they need 218 to even have a chance of getting it to the next phase in the Senate, where the Democrats are also a minority. Even if their hail Mary got that far, it still has to be signed into law by a president who is disinclined to do so.

It's just another resurrection attempt that will fail.

I have no problems with people owning AR-15s w/ high cap magazines, but I'm not willing to dish out extra tax money to provide security at schools and other places. That is where assault-style weapon manufacturers, distributors, owners come in. It

Back when the 2nd amendment came about civilian weapons were probably superior to those carried by the Red Coats. This is not the case today. The British are now our colonial subjects because we are the colonial power. Unlike in many countries there are no thousands of foreign troops on our soil that may need to be thrown out, therefore we do not need to own military type firearms. We have the largest most modern and expensive military force in the world so there is no fear that anyone will invade us. Matter of fact if we had half of what we have we would still be ok, but we would not be at helm of world empire.

Let me be exceedingly clear. I'm less worried about a FOREIGN invading force imposing tyranny on us, as our military will take care of it and our government is about SELF-PRESERVATION. My worry is a DOMESTIC tyranny (remember our government is about self-preservation), if one hasn't opened their eyes to the erosion of freedoms we have in this country for the sake of security that has occurred over the past 80 years let alone the past 20 years then they will not understand my point of the 2A being about power in the peoples' hands where it belongs and where the constitution demanded it to be.

One doesn't have to venture very far back in our history and read about the freedoms that we gave up with the Patriot Act on October 26th, 2001 in the name of security, signed by a "conservative" republican, so not even a big government liberal Democrat.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Benjamin Franklin Pennsylvania Assembly: Reply to the Governor, November 11, 1755.—The Papers of Benjamin Franklin, ed. Leonard W. Labaree, vol. 6, p. 242 (1963).

People put into subjectivity by their leaders will take one of two paths a quick and decisive one (like much of the dictators took in the past, Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, and on and on at smaller scales), or it will be a long slow process of appeasing to the "sensibilities" of the subjects in the name of the "greater good." We are on the latter road of law abiding citizens giving up our freedoms in order to restrict the law breakers, this is akin to taking the playground balls from everyone because of one bad apple, it didn't make sense in grade school and it sure doesn't make sense when we are stripping the fabric of our nation, the Constitution and Bill of Rights of it's ability to defend one's GOD given rights. All it will take is the right conditions and person's in office after all our rights are eroded to push us over the edge into full governmental control, it may not be in my lifetime; but the erosion of our liberties sure is in my lifetime. Last time I checked it wasn't the government that gave us our rights they were "endowed by our Creator," and yet we allow them at every turn to dole out and take rights as they see fit.

@PabloJ I know you to some degree agree and defend the 2A as I've read other of your posts but, it seems, you like many others in this country fail to see and are blinded to the fact that we poke holes in our founding documents whenever we limit the citizens rights. And until we can get the population of this great country to look at all laws through that lens, we are in need of the 2A more than ever, as there is nothing that will stop the rot that has infected the minds of the people that we are to depend on the government for our rights, freedoms and security.

"A government for the people, by the people, of the people," dying each day to a populace that is blind to it's demise.

If anyone wanted to know the definition of what a FUDD is, here you go:
I don't own any assault-style rifles and am perfectly satisfied with magazine capacity of 10 or less (my Remington 1100 holds four in the magazine) and feel I should not loose my rights in the future because of wishes of some. saw your post on another thread. You must be a SNOWFLAKE troll or a self centered ------ .
The left is like quicksand where guns are concerned. They don't just suck your shoes down, they want your hat too.

Laws to restrict AR's to people under 21 are gaining some traction in state legislatures.

FL governor today said they were going to push one through.

That's about all I can see getting any votes.

AR bans are still death for a dem politician unless they live in a district that votes 60% dem. Not many of those around.

Pabloj I don't even know what to say that is allowed on THR so I will bite my tongue.
As for you, I hope you find some time to study history and realize just how smart our Founders were, and why they enshrined the 2A in the Bill Of Rights. I seriously hope you are in a very small minority with your thinking.

I'm gonna vote troll, and Socialist indoctrination on this one, Pablo. How many car manufactures do you think pony up anything for drunk driving deaths? That's right, it's not the car's fault. Your disarmament and gun manufacturers liability perspective are really not in keeping with the USA as a Republic.

Actually the Rebels used the same weapon that the British did in the War for Independence...The Brown Bess musket. The Brown Bess musket was considered to be one of the best long guns of the era and was very effective in a well-trained army such as the British.

Unlike in many countries there are no thousands of foreign troops on our soil that may need to be thrown out, therefore we do not need to own military type firearms.

Why own any firearms at all? Well except for agricultural proposes in which case single shot 22 rimfire and single shot shotguns will do just fine for controlling pests. England seems to be doing fine without them.

You seem to only want firearms for the senseless pleasure of killing defenseless wild game and animals which is totally unnecessary as meat is readily available at grocery stores.

The hell you don't.

These curs want "Australian style" gun control. Try to own that 1100 there or in the UK.

The anti-gun cult pushing invidiously racist gun controls are maximalists. They're no more going to stop with me than Eichmann and Heydrich were going to stop with the Chasidim.

This is just the usual Democrat token grandstanding. It won't even make it out of committee.

The proposed law we should be paying attention to is in California which will ban all semi-automatic rifles with a detachable magazine (with a few exceptions for 22's).

California is the model for becoming a 3rd world country well on course for banning ownership of all firearms except under the most rigorous of rules.
