Anyone else soured on .22lr?

There wasn't any in the PSA Greenville SC store this afternoon- but I did get one box of 100 at Cabela's across the street and 2 boxes of 50 at Academy.:D

What kind and how much are they wanting for it?

Last few times I was at Cabela's and Academy in Greenville they didn't have any. It's not as convenient for me to stop in there as it is for Walmart, unless I'm already in the area for something with the wife and kids.

So what do you think hoarding has to do with the shortages?

Who mentioned hoarding? I must have missed that.

More power to the people who are laying up stocks of ammunition. That can't be anything BUT a good thing. Name a time in the history of our nation where more ammunition, of any and all kinds, has been in the hands of private citizens?

Keep buying and keep stashing it away, I say!

Not soured, but pissed..
Mostly at the SOB hoarders that keep this nonsense continuing in perpetuity.. Yes, I can and do reload 9mm at the same or less price than what you can find .22 these days.. like $6/50 if you're lucky??!! Choke on it!..
No, I didn't 'see the future'.. and buy up a thousand dollars worth of .22 when I 'could have..' I also didn't count on firearm enthusiasts to be the typical money grubbing bastards that they've turned out to be.. those staying up all night to get Wal-Mart's shipment to sell at the local flea market at 1000% markup.. Call it my fault.

Still love to shoot the .22 LR. Not every day, but regularly.

Can we please leave the hoarding crap out of the thread. There is enough of that elsewhere. The question is do you still enjoy shooting .22 LR.

Just buy off slickguns.com and other ammo search engines.

It's really not that big of a deal.

I've got another .22 rifle coming, a Marlin 925M .22WMR. It'll be my son's, eventually, seeing as how he really likes my Marlin 783.

We all still love shooting .22 in all it's varieties. Wouldn't give it up for the world!

:)

Plinking with a 22 is probably my favorite shooting possibly tied with dusting clays.

I have changed the way I shoot since this shortage hit. More often then not I bring my single shot. A 100 round box can be a whole trip! With a semi I could go through the same 100 round box in a half hour

22 is still my overall favorite.
It's also the round that has most helped me build some transferable skills.

Yep. Without a doubt. Makes using guns like a cricket or rascal fun again. I sure do wish TC hadn't killed off the Hot Shot.

I still like my .22s but I don't shoot them nearly as much. A couple of years ago I realized that 12 guage shells were plentiful and not much more than what .22s went for when you could find them. Presently, I spend a lot more time shooting trap than rifle practice.

I don't shoot it much anymore although I keep some around for vermin. I can load 38 spl for the same price. I can't get over the fact that it was 4 cents a round before the panic and now it's 10 cents a round. The price of other ammo came back down but .22 didn't. Why is that? Because it's the new gold standard for shooters and speculation is still alive and well in the shooting community. .22 ammo will never return to pre panic prices because of the speculators. People just buy it like gold and stock pile it thinking the there will be a profit to be made in the future.

I have a MKII that I plan to give to a relative because of the ammo prices. I sold a 218 Bee for the same reason. Homey don't play those games.

I haven't been soured at all as I had stocked up quite a bit in 2008 on 22LR and it has carried me through. When my boys were younger they shot a lot of 22 through semi autos but they are grown and shoot the big stuff now. Last year I was able to get another 5K case at a 4 cents a round which is about 25% higher than what I paid in 2008 but still not bad sonsidering.

I find it funny that people are willing to pay close to 10 cents a round for bulk pack ammo when I get the premium target ammo at the same price, and it shoots amazing through my bolt action 22 LR rifles.

I certainly haven't soured on the 22, but I have had to adjust to the
"new normal", and that is a big change.

Used to be that shooting 22s just meant that I might need to pick up a few boxes of ammo at the hardware store if I couldn't find enough in the glove box or under the seat of my pick-up. Those days have become part of grampa's story tellin time now. But in order to preserve the type of nostalgia in the minds of my grand kids which will hopefully help them to develop a fondness for the pastime I have adjusted to my new role. Now, since the hardware store no longer sells guns or ammo and driving 30 miles one way to Wally World produces nothing more than frustration at the ammo cabinet, I have become the stocking dealer/distributer and use the internet to get it done.

I've actually increased the selection of rifles and pistols available and have an ample stash of ammo and I keep it replenished. There is no hoarding and no reselling but there is no shortage here either. My grand kids will likely have few stories to tell about the shortage, but many to tell about just shooting for fun.

I haven't soured on .22lr. I have soured on people who buy it from retail stores and mark it up 300+% and re-sell it, thus prolonging the bubble/shortage.

I sure miss the days of going to the range and shooting a full brick without concern for how I would replace it.

Not soured at all. I pass on picking up more ammo more often than I buy it. When I do buy it I am buying it with the knowledge that it is more likely that my sons and not yet here grandchildren will be using it, not me. When I say I'm passing it up, I'm referring to all sizes of boxes; squares, cubes, blocks, pavers, bricks and cinder blocks.

I have only ordered target grade 22LR online up until this point. I still have a pretty good supply of the common stuff but not a lot of the better stuff (maybe a couple thousand rounds excluding CCI Standard Velocity which I have a couple cases of). So, I have reduced my shooting of 22LR even though I really didn't have to. I share with people I take shooting versus in the past I would pretty much insist that they buy their own and bring along because it was easy to do unless it was under 50 rounds.

I have had zero success in finding any 22LR at Walmart in two+ years. Honestly at this point, I don't understand it. The shortage should be over. I don't visit Academy Sports often and I know they have had 22 ammo, but mostly promotional stuff which I already have. I could use some regular CCI HV at the moment.

Will have to start buying target grade stuff online soon even though I typically pass by one place where I would buy in person. It is a trip though and requires me to plan to make it there during business hours when I am usually doing something else in the area.

I have soured on shooting in general.

The people paying the premium are just as much at fault, stop buying it 300% above market and the price will come down.

If I had ever bought it marked-up, that would be great advice. I haven't, so I'm already doing my part.

I can remember .02/round being fairly normal for an everyday price in my late teens. By the rationale some folks use, I'd have quit shooting back in the mid '90s; refusing to pay those ridiculous new prices of .03/round. Regardless, so long as I can afford to shoot I won't let the cost sour me on the experience. For me it's a versatile round, affordable, enjoyable, easy to learn on, great to practice with caliber with a huge variety of firearm choices to choose from. If you're sour because ammo isn't available, I say you're not looking very hard. I'm not paying much if any more than 3 or 4 years ago and I've bought thousands of rounds these past two years. Life's too short as is to let a few bucks determine your happiness.

I am typically paying .08/rnd, delivered from on line retailers such as Cabelas, Midway, & Natchez. I love shooting & will go through about a brick/month. Cheap fun to me.

The key thing is to just periodically buy a brick or two anytime you go the the LGS, and not just when you *think* you need it.
For many/most of us, this is just not possible, nor has it been for 2 years plus. It is just not available, unless you are willing to pay $60-75/550 rounds. I am not.

I have a bit that I bought before TSHTF, but am not willing to burn it up without replenishments available.

Laxammo.com. Always has 22lr when I stop by for some boo lets.
Yep, and at a dime a round, they can keep them. :)
