Anyone else want a lever gun in a 50 S&W?

Well, the .460 and .500 are two different pistols and I'm sure they would offer two different scenarios when shooting them out of a rifle. I'd have to buy both and would.

I recently had a Marlin XTR in .45-70 cut down to 16.5" and had some XS sights and a scout rail put on it. I LOVE IT! WHATS not to love?

With that said I am a true lever gun fanatic. If they came out with a 16.5" lever gun in .500 S&W I would probably get one as I am working on getting a .500 S&W wheel gun. I for sure would be hand loading for both as ammo is stupid high priced!

The 45-70 is way over a half inch longer than the .500, so you would gain in overall magazine capacity. As far as only shooting a couple of boxes of ammo thru a .500, I guess that big basket of .500 casings waiting to be reloaded disproves that. Granted, there were lots of people buying the gun for the wow factor and could'nt stand the recoil. Lots of "Dirty Harry" specials the same way. But for those who enjoy the gun, it's a very fine weapon indeed. I don't know if I would get the .500 lever gun, I'm not all that impressed with pistol caliber rifles. I have a .357 Winny that gives me a little trouble and a .44 Winny that's excellent. I also have the Marlin 1895GS. That's my 45-70 lever. Now that's a great gun!

I dont really care what kind of rifle it is I just want a rifle in 500 mag. I have seen several shadows of doubt

Cost.......well dont be a fool reload all expensive rounds I figured even buying new brass for the first loading it would cost about $.22 a bullet.

what can a 500 mag do that a 45-70 cant do?
lets be obvious make a .50 inch hole....duh! also mentioned is mag capacity

bottom line it would just be really cool even more fun would be an autoloading rifle in 500 mag.

the whole what can x do that y cant in such an invalid arguement to me if that were the case every time and manufacturers stuck to it the whold world would only have a few cartridges like 1 rim fire 1 small 1 medium and 1 large caliber for rifles and pistols. Lets try to be a little creative.

I think the major obstacle to chambering an existing lever action to 500SW is the 60-65Kpsi chamber pressure and resulting bolt thrust.

A heavy loaded 45-70 operates at 40-45Kpsi. The 500SW is a big jump in pressure. A converted M71 or Marlin M1895 might take it for awhile, but bolt set back is probably inevitable.

Forget the 500 Magnum, gimme a nice 18.5" Marlin in 50 Special, and I'll be happy as a pig in a waller. Bullets that big don't need all that honkin' velocity, 1700 fps out of a rifle barrel would be plenty for anything I'd care to hunt. Limit pressures to 40Kcup, put a 2/3 mag tube on it, and make it in blue AND stainless, to satisfy the purists and the low-maintenance guys. I'll take one in stainless, thank you very much.
