I was talking to someone today who was telling me about a bore laser. He said that I could use the bore laser to align night sights on a gun. More specifically, a Glock. I put the laser in the bore and align the sights that way.

He said they come in the common handgun caliber sizes.

I have the rear sight pushing tool but I need a way to align the sight without having to go to the range.

Anyone hear of this or have any suggestions on aligning sights?

AimShot is what you'd like, most likely. There is a 9mm laser unit that then fits into whatever other pistol caliber arbor you'd like. If you'd rather sight in a rifle, they make different laser units (2 cover the entire range of rifles).

Here is a link to the laser unit for the pistol cartridges, and here is a link to the rest of the arbors and laser units.

After you align the sights with the bore laser it would be good to shoot it with the ammo that you intend to use and see if it is hitting where you want it to.

Guys,

Thank you for the links. This place just keep amazing me with the knowledge!

So what I basically do is order the 9mm laser and then .40 and .45 sight arbors? That way, I'll be able to align 9, .40 and .45 sights?

The arbors are in the $19 neighborhood each with the 9mm laser $73.

All I do is put the 9mm in the .40 arbor and it's ready to go?

Right! The laser is in the smallest caliber whch that particular model will fit, in this case 9mm, and the arbors are hollow sleeves that the laser is inserted into to make it fit the larger calibers.

Tom,

Same thing with the .45, right? Just put the 9mm in the .45 and it's ready to go?

Yeah, that's the way the Aimshot works anyway. It keeps you from having to buy a separate $73 laser for every caliber you own. The arbors are a simple way to make a small round larger. To some extent I'm surprised that they're $19. If you think about it a .40=10mm or only 1mm larger diameter than a 9mm. So the walls of the arbor will only be .5mm thick. But I guess you're paying for the precision since eveything has to fit fairly snug to keep the laser beam centered in the barrel.

The LaserLyte uses sort of the opposite approach. The laser is inserted into the front of the barrel with a collet. Same sort of concept, you just use a collet that fits the inside diameter (bore) of the barrel. The advantage of the LaserLyte is that the laser unit can be larger (and use conventional batteries) since it doesn't have to fit inside a chamber. OTOH the AimShot sort of gives you more assurance that the laser is correctly aligned with the bore since, otherwise, it won't shine properly out the barrel.

Either one can do a pretty decent job of getting you "in the ballpark" as someone else mentioned. Keep in mind that while the laser beam is a perfectly straight line the trjectory of the bullet is actually a shallow arc.

Tom,

Thank you for the information. I'm going to order a set tomorrow from Midway. I'll probably stay with the 9mm laser and the .40 arbor at first.

A few guys at the office are just getting their Glocks and they'll need night sights. I ordered some for them and I'm going to install them on the guns for the guys along with some other minor work.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know I ordered the Aim Shot from Midway today. It'll be here next week.:D It'll be like a new toy, can't wait for it to get here.

Just a thought, but isn't the dot from the laserlyte about the same size as the one on the aimshot? The reason I ask is that the aimshot wouldn't have much advantage since the bore doesn't really influence the beam given that the beam is so much narrower than the bore diameter. Both systems seem like they're pretty ok but the laserlyte seems to have the edge since accuracy would be pretty similar without buying a lot of arbors to change calibers. Last I checked, the laserlyte would do .17- 12ga all with one system.
