Anyone Ever NOT Have Friends/Family Ask to Borrow Firearms?

I've had people ask to borrow a gun when I take them to the range, but I'd never let it out of my sight.

Three things I don't lend out - cars, guns, and computers...

Not had anyone ask but have had the "I know where I'm coming" jazz.
I say," like heck you will. Be prepared now or be victims later"

As the story goes, alot of folks wanted to be buddies with Noah when the water got to their necks.

Yes! Once.

Right after 9/11 my brother-n-law called me up asking if he could borrow a handgun. I replied," No, but you can rent one from me!" After a small outlay of the green stuff on his part, he was in posession of my Glock 17 (this arrangement was just for a few days).

:D

Never had anyone ask to borrow one but I did loan one out because of the following:

He is a deputy prosecuting attourney (don't know why he didn't have one just because of that)
He was running for office and started getting threatening e-mails. He asked if I knew anything about guns and could I lean him in a good directions.

Before loaning him the gun I spent 2 hours going over gun safety with him and his wife, including the state law on use of force. (He wasn't familiar with that. He'd been doing mostly domestic violence prosecutions.)

Then took them both to the range and had them both shoot a variety until we found something they both liked. Surprisingly, they liked my S&W airweight with crimson trace grips.

They eventually bought the gun from me. That meant I had to buy a new gun, new grips and a second set of grips for my P220.

His wife used to be semi-anti, but really enjoyed shooting.

Another win for us.

I had a chanch to buy a home made 30-06 from an Airman that was being transfered. That became my loaner rifle. When one friend broke the scope it was his responsability to replace it, which he did. I told the next person he would have to sight it in, which he did. Thats the best thing I have ever done to not hurt feelings. I don't know to this day how it shoots.

No, but they know better 'cause I'll just insist on them getting training and their own. Don't loan out kids either....

I have both borrowed and loaned out guns to very close friends. I would feel very bad if something happened and they could have been armed and I did nothing. I know they are not my responsibility, but sometime you find yourself unarmed for various reasons.

Yep.

My family knows that I'll be there for them. If they need something, they just need to ask. My brother mentioned he was thinking about a PDA and asked if I had an extra one laying around. Suddenly one arrived at his doorstep. When his sons started showing an interest in shooting and he asked to borrow a .22 and a shotgun, Uncle 22x9 responded with a nod and a smile.

Now if the nephews start asking to borrow the howizter or the AKs/ARs. the answer will be an NO.

Most of my friends have not asked. I offer to them as long as I am present. My kids ask all the time and I loan to them for hunting purposes. That's it.

Had a friend ask to borrow a weapon for personal protection once. He was going to undertake the risky adventure of breaking into his parent's home in search of adoption papers. I refused to assist him, he was obviously over the edge. He died the next day, shot through the heart with a rifle in his parents bedroom. Sorry he died but very glad none of my guns were involved in that mess.

Just a couple of friends that I would loan or borrow firearms from. These guys would be there if I needed them in any situation and the sentiment is reciprocal. Heck, I would loan them my imaginary cat if they needed it!:D

NO NO A THOUSAND TIMES NO.

Just had a friend ask to borrow for a CCW class he's taking tonight.
I would never loan a pistol.PERIOD
not a question of trust, just not a question.

Sure have. My brother-in-law and I borrow from each other on a regular basis. Of course, that's just to try new things out, and doesn't affect but maybe 1% of the total arsenal. :)
