I recently purchased a Mossberg 185k-a, a clip-fed bolt action 20 gauge with c-lect adjustable choke. It was in near mint shape for less than $90, so despite having zero knowledge on these shotguns, I couldn't not buy it.

I've read on some sites that rifled slugs can be used if the choke is set to its most open position (improved cylinder?) and read yet by other sites that they shouldn't be used. I've recently learned that Mossberg themselves said the use of slugs is acceptable.

Do any among us have experience with these utilitarian shotguns? Any personal experience with slugs through a C-lect choke? Any experience with the c-lect choke in general?
BTW, mine has slots cut in the barrel immediately before the choke. I don't know if this was standard or not.

Overall, I'm impressed with the value for what I paid, but I'd like to hear what others think of these slightly freakish-looking shotguns.

I got a 20 g in the mossy bolt have not shot it for yrs but,..... let me put it this way it will always fire when I want it too.
