I have spent the last 30 min trying to find the pics to back this story but i have been unable to locate them.
Me and a couple of friends decided to go camping 2 summers ago. At about 11 the first night we decided to run into town to grab a few things. On our way there we spotted a young deer laying (alive with its head up) in the ditch. As we passed, it never moved. We turned around to check it out. After getting out of the truck and walking up to it we noticed that it had been hit by a car. Other than a compound fracture to a front leg, it didnt appear to be badly injured. We decided to go on into town and check on the button buck our return trip.
On our way back to camp (about 2 hrs later) we again stop to check on the deer. He was still alive and sitting up in the ditch. He still never tried to get away. None of us had any type of gun with us, which is VERY unusual, so we couldnt put him down. One of us come up with the idea to load him up and bring him back to camp. Well,,,,,,,we did. I was in the bed of the truck holding on to the deer. He still never tried to get away or cause any fuss at all.
So we start driving to camp again. We didnt make but about 150yds down the road and 4 more deer run outta the ditch in front of us. We were only going about 20 mph. one of the 4 deer found the front bumper, got knocked off all 4s and slide the rest of the way across the road, hits the other ditch, and takes off running never to be seen again.
We get back to camp, unload the buck and the rest of our stuff. We look at the badly broken lower front leg. About an inch of bone is missing and the lower portion is haging on by nothing more then tendon. The only thing that we can think to do is cut off the lower leg and put some kinda bandage on it. So thats what we did.
That little button Buck stayed in our camp for about 2 more hrs. We would walk around camp, go up and pet him and he would nothing more than just look around. After about 2 hrs I walked over to him and as I was petting him, he stood up and casually bounced off to about 20 yrds away, turned around and just looked at us for about 10-15 min. before bouncing off into the night.
My friends went back down there about 2 wks later and stayed for a week. They spotted him several times that week and many more times through out the next year. Unfortunatly we lost that lease this last summer when the land was sold.
