Having a crazy thought - thinking about getting a 7x57 hunting rifle. Don't know why...

Anyway, thinking about a CZ 550 American in 7x57. Does anyone have one of these? How is the accuracy?

I'd love to get one in the 550 FS model, but it's not listed on their web site.

(I also thought about a Ruger 77 MKII in 7x57, but have read reports of inaccuracy with these in this caliber, because of long chamber throats.)

Thanks for any help,
Steve

I briefly had a 550 Lux in 7x57. My only complaint was that the rifling twist was apparently geared for small high-speed bullets. To me this defeated the whole point of the 7x57. If I want small fast bullets there are a dozen other options. I wanted the 7x57 for its famous crossbow bolts in the 175 or even 190 grain range. Sadly this rifle simply could not keep them stable. Both factory and handloads would give 5" or 7" groups at 100 yards. It may have just been a bad rifle, but I suspect it was simply a 1 in 10 or 1 in 12 twist rate rather than a 1 in 8 which is what I needed. The same rifle was a tack driver with 135 gr. and smaller bullets.

I think the American 550 is about a 1-in-9 twist (actually 1-in-8.something). Would that be fast enough to stabilize 175gr bullets?

Thanks again,
Steve
