Folks, I have some Promo powder that I would like to use, for 9mm loads, underneath either a 124 or 147 copper plated bullet. Does anyone have a good, tested load that you can recommend ? Thanks so very much in advance!

I like 124 grain Hi Tec Small Ball with 4.0 grains of promo.
Also generic124 FMJ with 4.6 grains promo work well in all my 9MM pistols.
Seems I have 2 eight pounders to use up so I have been testing for a common load that is accurate.

124gr Acme coated RN over 4.6gr Promo.

EDIT: While I like this load a lot, it is pretty hot (feel, recoil), and I recently cut back to 4.4gr Promo for general target shooting. Either load is good; you'll just have to find what runs in your pistols the best.

Livelife has posted Promo info in 9mm in a lot of threads here a quick search should turn up something.

I have only shot a little Promo but I was using 4gr with a MBC 124 cone. Seemed to shoot well, back before I had my chrono so no vels.

This link has my load development for Promo with 95 gr to 147 gr 9mm bullets - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/9-mm-loads.865271/#post-11429686

Per Alliant, I referenced 2004 Red Dot load data by weight for my Promo load development - http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=182147&d=1364769070
  • 9mm 115 gr FMJ Red Dot OAL 1.120" Max 4.5 gr (1150 fps)
  • 9mm 125 gr Lead (RN?) Red Dot OAL 1.150" Max 4.5 gr (1,145 fps)
  • 9mm 125 gr FMJ Red Dot OAL 1.150" Max 4.6 gr (1,145 fps)
  • 9mm 147 gr XTP Red Dot OAL 1.140" Max 3.4 gr (895 fps)
For 147 gr Z-Cast Lead FP at 1.155"-1.160" OAL, Glock 22 with KKM 40-9mm conversion barrel was tested with reference load of 3.5 gr W231/HP-38.

3.1-3.3 gr Promo reliably cycled the slide and produced light recoil. 3.3-3.5 gr produced greater accuracy with mild recoil and produced following groups at 10 yards

For 124 gr Z-Cast "stepped" Lead RN at 1.125" OAL, 4.0 gr of Promo. For 124 gr FMJ/plated RN, I load to 1.130"-1.135" with 3.8 - 4.0 gr of Promo.

BTW, for 115 gr FMJ/plated RN, 4.0-4.2 gr of Promo but loaded shorter at 1.110"-1.115" produced mild recoil target load. 4.4-4.5 gr of Promo produces firmer recoil on par with factory target load with greater accuracy.

Here are some Promo chrono data (These are carbine loads so subtract around 200 fps for pistol velocities. BTW, Promo is reverse temperature sensitive - Higher velocity at colder temps) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...n-9mm-40s-w-45acp.799231/page-4#post-10338994
