Whats the best place? Anyone actually ever filed a claim or know who actually pays out? Looking for ~20-25k coverage pricing. Thanks

I've had Collectibles Insurance for years. Never filed a claim so I can't comment on that. But they don't need a list, you pay a premium based on maximum they will pay and document any claims with receipts and serial numbers when you file a claim.

You still need good records, but you don't have to disclose them to any 3rd parties until there is an actual need. Big plus in my book.

Check into extra coverage to add to the free coverage that comes with your NRA membership, it may be cost effective for your required amount.

Personally I added a rider to my homeowner's insurance.

I haven't used them, but the feedback I've seen on another firearm forum about filing a claim with Collectibles Insurance has lead me to steer clear of them. YMMV.

I have a rider. I recently learned a lot about home/property insurance as my daughter works on the phones for USAA property and home.

Biggest thing homeowners can do for themselves is keep records, receipts, appraisals, and all pertinent facts. If you have a stock Glock 19, no big deal. Take a picture of gun w/serial # and any receipt and you'll be good to go. But if you have something special, with high collector value, get it appraised every couple years, and keep appraisals on file.

For example, if you have a fairly rare, old Colt SAA where the recognized value may range in price from $1000 for a well used gun to $10,000 for a never fired model, you need an appraisal to keep the insurance company 'honest'. And be sure to renew it periodically. Good records will save you headaches if your guns are stolen, destroyed, or damaged.

Take Care,

Like others I have a rider on my homeowner's policy which covers my guns. I have several copies of the gun's descriptions, serial numbers, and receipts, along with numerous photos.

I use the insurance endorsed by the NRA. It has the best price and the best coverage. I had an add-on for my home insurance, but it is crappy coverage and expensive. Even my agent said it was. Cancelled it after buying the NRA endorsed coverage. Never had a claim...knock on wood.

I started out with the NRA supplemental insurance but changed to Collectables Insurance Services.

Any chance you can elaborate o. collectible Inc? At work taking a break and can't readily do a google search.

I had an Insurance Agent friend of mine tell me save your money and buy a good safe. That's been my MO for the past ten years. Last year my brother in law had a fire, when rounds started popping off the fire dept pulled back and fought from a distance. Lost 2 safes full of guns including some Class III's. Take about an ATF headache. He did have some insurance, also said there were some uninsurables.

I just have simple renters insurance for the home we rent. Our policy includes 5k worth of firearms coverage. I'm about at that limit right now and will have to look into more coverage if I make anymore purchases.

Had a claim against Kirk Van Orsdell who administered the NRA insurance maybe 50 years ago. They were excellent then. Seems most insurance companies want to administer your coverage anymore, not pay - instead spending the money on advertising.

Home owners insurance often has a maximum amount they will pay for particular types of belongings such as jewelry or firearms (Farmers is $5000 by default). You can get that amount increased, but they often won't go too far above that without a list. You need to ask what the limits are and how much they can be increased.

Owning a safe and having insurance are not mutually exclusive.
Some of us...do both. :)

I have the basic NRA insurance + Eastern Insurance on top of that. IMHO, adding a rider on top of one's homeowner's insurance is way, way, too expensive.

Everyone assumes their "bolted safe" is foolproof. You do realize a bracket and a car jack will strip just about any screw from the concrete. People also forget that just because it took you and 4 guys 2 hours to get it in the house doesn't mean the people that would steal it care about scratching your paint :)

I would say safe for fire which I have top of the line (and hopefully 99% of theft) and insurance for peace of mind.

Anyway, I went with Eastern Firearms insurance. 30k of coverage for 160

Insurance guy here, most homeowner/ renters policies will include 5k automatically, 10k with rider no schedule required ( list with serial numbers) and then virtually unlimited if b scheduled and a rider.
The first is usually free, the second its about 5 a month locally and then the 3rd obviously depends on your collection. Not too expensive here, but each state, and or region can vary.

Had a rider for a few years until I bought a better safe. Been thinking about getting a rider again but costs have increased a bit so I'm going to shop around. I need to just bite the bullet, but it's lower priority to me. My safe will be tough to get into unless somebody comes in planning to cut a safe open.

I have a policy with Collectibles Insurance. Fortunately I have never had to file a claim. My homeowners pilicy with State Farm has a $2500 limit on guns.

How much were you being quoted?

Two of my guns are effectively irreplacable, but the rest of the collection could be replaced within the limits of my homeowner's policy, so I don't have a firearms rider. I do have a rider that covers my private computer server farm (and before someone asks, no, I don't have any of Hillary's e-mails) at replacement value and it only costs me $9.72 a year.
