We're moving, and shopping around for new homeowners insurance, and coverage for my firearm collection (about $40k in value) is running between $700-1100 per year with $1000 deductible, depending on the carrier.

A quick Google search found Gun and Trophy Insurance that is offering $48k coverage for $150 per year with a $500 deductible. I love the price, but how are they able to offer such a good deal? Has anyone used them? Had to file a claim? What are your experiences? Anyone else that anyone has had good experience with? Particularly with filing a claim?

Here is their website: https://gunandtrophy.com/

I've never shopped around for it but the prices you were initially quoted seems really steep to me. Do you think there is a 100% chance your entire collection will be stolen or destroyed in the next 35-55 years? Depending on where In the range of $700-$1100 the premium falls, that's how long it would take to completely pay the value of your collection in premiums, adjusted for the deductible cost.

The gun and trophy insurance seems more appropriately priced, though I would make sure the company has a history of actually paying out claims without giving their customers the run around. Be sceptical, do your research.

I should probably inquire to my insurance agent about my own coverage/limits...I haven't spoken to him about it in a while, and my collection has grown since then.

Edit: I just looked at their link. A couple red flags right off the bat; at the bottom of the page it says it was founded 2022. I also found no reference to a physical address anywhere on their website.

Thank you to everyone who replied. It seems that Eastern Insurance is more widely used, and the coverage is a bit better too. With military/NRA discount, it is $150 per year for $45k of coverage with $100 deductibles. I don't know if that is general pricing or location/person-specific. Regardless, I signed up for this, and will be dropping my current rider on my homeowner's policy that costs more for less coverage. Hope I never have to use it...
