Folks, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just ordered some extreme plated 147 grainers and want to develop a practice load for these. I currently use 4.7 grains of Unique for 124 grn. cast loads. Thanks in advance for your help!

I thought I did, but going to my books the 147gr is the only load I dont use Unique on, My load for 147 plated is 5.5gr Blue dot for around 900fps from my P85 rugger, the 147 is only load i have had any luck with in that rugger. Unique is my go to powder on near all my pistol rounds.

X-treme 147gn plated are the only 9mm bullets I use for IDPA nowadays. When loading Unique, I use 4.0 grains - just loaded 800 of this very load up last week (with CCI SPP).

Please don't take my word for it; I might be crazy. Please use this as general info to work up your own load.

I have used 147gr Raineer plated HP with 4.0-4.4gr Unique with a COAL of 1.142 in my G19. 4.0 or less started the have problems cycling the action. 4.3 and above start to get kind of snappy. The sweet spot is very narrow and Unique doesn't usually meter very precisely at small charges that's why I changed powders for this bullet weight.

I load them to a COAL of 1.15. I've made a couple thousand this way so far - most of these are fed through my G34 and a LoneWolf 9mm conversion barrel in my G23, with some going to my 9mm ARs.

There may be better powders than Unique, but I lucked into an 8lb jug of the stuff. I have a few single pounders of other powders (bullseye and w231), but I haven't bothered with them yet since I have so much Unique.

I started my load testing with 3.7grains, which worked, but the brass was getting dropped really close to me (basically at my feet). I prefer there to be a little more "oomph" for the ejection cycle, so I bumped it up to 4.0 grains. It now ejects farther out and more consistently, so I've stuck with that. Plus, my 9mm ARs cycle it without problems, so I can't complain.

I also tested with 4.3 grains, but it didn't seem to gain me anything, so I've stuck with 4.0 grains.

I use 3.8 to 3.9 grains with ranier 147 grain about 950 to 975 fps coal 1.135 used same load with xtreme 147 but didn't rechrono

I have had problems with faster powders behind 147 cast bullets. I have a Blue Dot load that is excellent but have not tried Unique. I do know that Red Dot and Green Dot are too fast.

I never had any problems with fast powders. The only one I tried was ramshot competition and it worked great for a soft recoiling practice round. I used a mid-high charge from the Western Powders published data and I seated to 1.142. This is a great target load from my G19. Soft, accurate and clean. When I get more 147s I'll load more of it.

Ahhh, you said cast.. Sorry poor reading comprehension on my part. Completely different animal and I don't shoot cast in 9x19.

How does Unique meter compared to 700-X?

I could have bought some the other day but went with Bullseye instead since flake powders hate me.
