Just for something different I loaded some 140 JHP for my BLR .358 last night. The only manual I own that shows a load is Speer. I really don't know how a pistol bullet can hold together at 2600 especially considering the twist in the BLR's barrel. Interestingly Speer does not list the H322 as a compressed load I'm starting at 49gr and it's heavily compressed. I've no idea what I'm going to do with this round, not after any particular varmint, I'll probably blow up some gallon milk jugs or something. I'd love to hear the result of your pistol bullet loads.

One of the first rifles I ownd was a Marlin 336 in 35 win. I experimented with loainf midrange( light) loads using 158 gr LSWC bullets because they were cheap and I had a good supply from loading pistol rounds. I good decent accuracy at 50-75 yards with open sights. I ended up scoping the Marlin and stopped loading pistol bullets. Back then I was using mostly 2400, but don't remember charge weights; but loads were taken from the Lyman Cast Bullet manual.

I did a lot of plinking with an assortment of different pistol bullets with my 336. They all worked. They WEREN'T all accurate but some were.
I never tried to push then very fast. Certainly NOT with that much rifle powder! Always used pistol powder, but it was 5 household moves ago, so no records survived, and the rifle is long gone/traded.

I have a couple 35 Remmys and love shooting them. Recently I've been shooting 158gr XTPs in front of 3031 just because I have a bunch and didn't want to shoot up my 180s or 200s.
They shoot...but hit pretty bad. Inconsistent to me though that's likely a factor of working up the load differently. Funny I had the scope sighted on my 336 at 100yds using 200gr CLs...dropped a few 158gr in and they hit about 5 inches low at 100. With about a 5 inch radius spread (pattern)... keep in mind same powder but very different charge
I'll play with it some more. There really isn't a big savings to be honest unless you had some extra jacketed handgun bullets laying around or - maybe used bulk lead (which I haven't done yet).

Not exactly on topic, but I load both cast lead and plated pistol bullet reduced loads in my 357 Herrett Contender. I use a medium 35 cal Lyman "M" die as an expander. My best groups are with Unique and 158gr plated bullets. Missouri Bullet makes a 180gr 358 bullet I'd like to try.
At 50 yards the accuracy is plenty good enough for practice and I'm not beating myself or the gun up. And it's cheaper shooting than full house loads.

I've loaded 158 gr. hand gun projectiles in 35 Remington, 35 Whelen and 350 Remington Magnum. Never bothered to try them in 358 Norma Or 358 Winchester. They were OK, not great, but OK, in 35 Remington. The others were a futile endeavor.
