First off, I say "actual" because I now occording to the letter of the law most of us are in the militia right now.
I am refering to the volunteer, unfunder groups the organize, train, compete and are called into service by stare and local government to assist with things such as disasters, man hunts, etc.
The group most local to me lists the following as objectives;
Teach observation skills - help you be more aware of your surroundings so that a dangerous situation can be avoided
Teach personal defense - NEODF will show you how to appropriately react to a hazardous situation by conducting classes on personal self-defense, pistol training, SWAT training, etc...
Survival skills - whether trying to survive an extended power outage...or trying to survive in the outdoors - NEODF can help you know how to get out of the situation by offering classes and training on rappelling, first-aid, NBC training and MUCH more..
Provide empowerment.. When you and your family know what to do and how to respond to disasters and emergencies - you become stronger and more confident through your ability to withstand WHATEVER the world throws at you...
Sounds good enough to me. I'm already very well trained in fire/EMS/rescue/HAZ-MAT and outdoors and survival from my Boy Scout days.
I would like to be involved in some training where I could shoot and learn with like minded people and possibly dabble in some "tactical" skills.
I'm just worried that the "militia" is as bad as most people think it is. Seems like an idea thaw would easily be executed poorly. If anyone has some personal experiance or opinions I would like to hear them.
Thanks,
