I dug out an old possibles bag to go with my new found-old Hawken and had forgotten about this knife sheathed in the rear.

Got me to wondering - who be... been, Sam Gooding?

Any knife maker of note that I can otherwise find nothing about?

Cool. Care to link us to the info? I did a quick Google on Sam Gooding this morning with my coffee and did not find anything. Granted I didn't spend much time on it, though.

I can't reconstruct my train of searches anymore but if you just search him and blacksmith, he'll come up.

In the course of finding him, I found one other of his items as a blacksmith with the same name stamp and so inferred the connection.

There's another of his knives on worthpoint in damascus flavor - otherwise, he seems to be a farrier/blacksmith of considerable note.

Got it. I guess I goofed the Google as I just did name and not blacksmith. I will have to give that a go. Its a handy looking knife and a sweet possible bag.

How about that empty sheath?

What's the consensus on the empty sheath beside the one for the patch knife?

I'm thinking probably a fire-steel?
