Anyone NOT sending their Ruger LCP back?

My feeling is... if you drop your carry gun, you deserve it to shoot you in the leg.( not anyone else, just you)

I generally feel its a bad idea to drop things on the ground that were not designed to be dropped on the gound. That said I think it is childish to wish those who unintentionally drop guns harm.

I'll also ask you, have you ever caught hot brass to the face? Ever done any intense simulated fire training?

every been in the miltary? I have, I don't even want to think what would have happend had some one droped thier weapon during training.

Droping your carry gun is inexcusable.

That's what I was hinting at. I never dropped my weapon, but field exercises showed me that anything can happen.

In principal I agree. However, reality can be harsh. Accidents do happen. Negligence is inexcusable.

Federal law mandates that handguns be shipped USPS Priority Mail, or Common Carrier (i.e. UPS, FedEx) overnight to prevent loss and minimize handling. These services also have packaging tracking. The BATFE and USPS OIG take "lost" handguns very seriously.

As I am sure you know, a non-FFL may not ship a handgun via the USPS, nor does any law require overnight shipping thru UPS or FedEx when using a common carrier - the overnight requirement is the carriers policy.

I'm actually driving up to Prescott today, I wonder if Ruger would let me drop it off at the gate?

*UPDATE* - It seems they will accept it in person, I hit the road in 15 minutes.

I'm sending mine in, but I plan to wait until it gets cold enough so that I can wear a jacket big enough to conceal a larger gun.

Ruger Beta tester here

I also purchased the SR9 when they first came out. I actually own a pre-production model that came with the CRKT knife. I really like the gun for what it is. I went through the recall with the SR9 and it really was a snap. It took Ruger a long time to send the box but it did eventually arrive and I sent the gun off. It came back about a week later with a free mag, hat and sticker.

The trigger was way better than the original and all is well with the gun. At least Ruger steps up and does the right thing. Has all the recall stuff turned me off on Rugers??? Nope. Poop happens and if you want to be a true Beta tester this is one of the pitfalls.....Oh well.

Farnorthdan. With an attitude like that, the Ruger LCP recall will go very smooth . IMO that is the only way to approach this matter. We can stomp, cuss, throw things, write nastys, start arguments etc, but the bottom line is that Ruger screwed up and they have stepped up to the plate and are trying their damdest to please the owners.

Are any of us happy??Probably not, That being said I can live with it and heh, it is certainly not the first gun I have had to send back.

Para Carry 9, 3 times back (peddled it)
3 kt semi's , 17 times back (peddle um)
Lcp ruger, going back 1st time
2 kahrs 9mm, so far so good
Glock 19, so far so good
Smith M & P 9, so far so good

Nobody said it's a defect issue. It's a recall to install an even safer mechanism that reduces drop discharges. So, for a free mag, I'm signed up. It reinforces the "reasonable man" defense should I ever need it.

To me, collector value means nothing unless I leave it in a safe for 90 years. What good is it to me in the meantime?

Being in the Reserves for 22 years, I have seen countless M16's dropped, almost on a daily basis, and service affiliation meant nothing. Active, Reserve, Guard, even LEO in civilian life. Handguns? Not so much, but it happens. All I had to do was look over an issue M9 for dents, gouges, and scratches in holstered areas. Loaded or not, they get dropped all the time.

What amazes me is the attitude that it cannot ever happen. Anything can happen in the home, on the street, or in conflict.

I'm reminded that when the 1911 was superceded by the M9, drop safety was a mandatory design criteria, and it clearly met it.

I gotta tell you, I am GLAD I waited before buying mine. There is a waiting list of about 65 people at my local gunstore and that means that many of them will not get there guns for months. I am assuming that this was the case for many of you.

If I waited months for a gun only to find out that there is a recall and I had to send it back due to defect, I WOULD BE PISSED!!! :fire: :banghead: :cuss:

I love my LCP. Lots of rounds through it already. I am sending it for one reason, lawsuit. If I am carrying it as a BUG, and for some one in a million chance it hits the floor and someone gets a hole, I'm done. If I send it in and it's been checked/fixed by the factory, I stand a better chance.

Nobody plans to drop their gun, just as no one plans to need a gun for SD in the first place. Yet you take the precaution anyway.

I would send it in and get an improved weapon back with a free magazine.

I dropped mine off at the factory in person on Friday.

There have been 3 ADs resulting from dropped LCPs. Casualties were:

1. A refrigerator
2. A bed/window
3. a TV (I think that's what the Ruger rep. said)

The guns sent in will also be receiving some additional modifications to bring them up to spec with the latest manufacturing run.

i will NEVER EVER drop ANY gun

That's like people who claim they never dumped a motorcycle. Truth is there are those that have and those that are going to.

You may never intentionally drop a gun but it can fall out of a holster, get knocked out of your hand, etc.

Get the upgrade, it's free.

I am in line to send my LCP in for mods. I never thought I would drop a gun and am very careful but I have accidently dropped a pistol before in my home. Accidents happen. You can't plan for them.

Question for the accident proof.

Lets say you pull your gun and some1 bumps into you or somehow the bg knocks the gun outta your hand, do you want to be responsible for what happens next, I am saying you can never accidentally drop your gun, but what can go wrong will go wrong(stole that)and given the proximity of most sd shootings, I would think it mighty risky to have a gun that fires when dropped.

Actually this may be the enhanced version of the LCP. An additional way to engage the BG, you can just drop or throw the gun down at his feet.

well, i will be sending mine back! i just signed up. dont worry about your pistol being lost. the only way it can be shipped is ups (or maybe fed x), not the post office. they are very strict about the rules and regulations concerning firearm shipments. you will get it back. if you do not send it back, and for some reason, the gun discharges, think anout the 8 year old kid who just was killed by your stray bullet. and since you knew there was a recall, but decided not to have your pistol fixed, you will be the one on the hook for the multi-million dollar law suit! send it in, get it fixed, and dont worry about it. the biggest down side is being without the pistol for a few weeks. so this will make it even. one trip back to the factory for my kel-tec, and one for the lcp.

I wish Ruger would post a queing order on their site. At least then you'd know about how far back in line you were. But it's no biggie, I'll wait to get my packet and gladly send it in.

I've carried it since the day I bought back in like March, I'll sure miss it being in my pocket. In the meantime, I'll CC either my Glock 23 or my EAA Witness P.
