So, I took my brand new LCP to the range with 4 different types of ammo. The ammo that I had was the following:

1) Fiocchi XTP HP
2) Mag Tech FMJ (BALL)
3) Winchester Win Clean FP
4) IMI Samson JHP (15 years old) I used to own a Colt Mustang

After 2 Mags of the Fiocchi XTP and 4 failures to feed I thought for sure this gun was headed for a return trip to Ruger. Even the Mag Tech Ball ammo didn't feed flawlessly. I had failures to feed with all 4 types of ammo. The Fiocchi was the worst in that it jammed in the gun at about a 45 degree angle. The other 3 types would fetch up about halfway. Sometimes they would only hesitate before the action closed all the way. Other times the action would lock halway open. A little tap on the back of the slide with my offhand thumb would send the slide home and I was back in action. After 250 rounds things had improved markedly. I had saved back 30 rounds of the Fiocchi till the end of the range session. Out of those 30 rounds I only had 2 rounds that fetched up but the action closed on its own. By the end of the session the ball ammo was feeding almost flawlessly. Obviously this thing needs a wear in period. I hope to head back to the range in a week or two with about 250-300 more rounds. If it isn't 99.9 percent reliable by then I will send it back to Ruger. I think that all it would take is a little polishing of the feed ramp and throat. I think that the cause for for the stoppages was that the case mouth was catching on the feed ramp.

The good news is that this thing was far more accurate than I had expected. I also like the trigger pull, it was clean and smooth. One surpising thing was with the ammo. I had no idea why the Winchester ammo was called Win-clean. Those cases ejected form the gun shinier than some of my brass comes out of the tumbler, inside and out. I swear you could wipe them down with a paper towel and reload new looking rounds.

Conclusions: I haven't given up on the LCP yet. I think that it is very probable that another 200-300 rounds will cure the problems. It is not a gun that you want to buy new and stick in your pocket. I may have to find a different JHP point round for carry as I think that the XTP might be a little long.

polish the ramp. better yet, have a gunsmith do it. you are right in your assumption. did mine and its perfect.

I used magtech and Rem UMC to break mine in. Fired 50 rounds of magtech flawlessly, then had 3 FRTB with next 50 rounds of UMC, then fired another flawless 50 rounds of magtech. I think the UMC is underpowered. I cleaned it after that, then, on other days fired another 150 rounds of magtech without any failures of any kind. Then some Golden Sabers, no problems, then into the right front pocket it went!

If the serial # starts with 370 they have a recall on and part of the recall is for feeding issues, although the recall is for ADs when dropped. Let them pay the shipping both ways. Mine left last Friday.

Dodgeit

Mine has been retrofitted before it left the factory. It has been marked accordingly. Yeah, I know I probably should just put it in the box and ship it back to Ruger. I might just do that any way. I understand that they have been shipping guns back with an extra mag and that would be nice.
