Every Kel-Tec, Taurus or Ruger I try to release the slide on usually takes two thumbs and a whole lot of effort.

that's a slide stop, not a slide release, on the kel-tec. to release the slide on a kel-tec, you're supposed to pull the slide all the way back and release.
