My Neos is in the shop after the first firing session and I better start weighing my options in case it comes back the same POS it left here as. (Wish I bought the Walther to begin with now.)

How do you like out Walther P22? Reasonably accurate? Reliable? Feeds and ejects well? Fairly decently built? As always, your replies are greatly appreciated!

I have the 3.4" barrel version and have been utterly pleased with its performance and accuracy. I bought it used, so can't say how many rounds have been thru it, but the (Wal-Mart) Federal bulk-packs run just fine in it.

Its a good plinker, and informal target gun, but will it out-shoot my Browning BuckMark Target? Of course not, but it doesn't pretend it can.

What it can do is be alot more comfortable to carry around! :D

Good luck.

I have had a P22 for 9 months and so far it's been great. I have had a few feed failures but I think it might have been the ammo since it has not happened since I switched to CCI.

Darrin has one and ive shot it a bit too. They can be picky to ammo and loads there of. Some love federal some hate it. Only major issue with darrin's has been the slide catching on the hammer. Sent it off to walther earlier this week and it hopefully will be back soon this week.

Their accuracy is pretty good. Definaly not a match pistol but you will plink anything you sight up basicly. Want to hit that gatorade bottle at 13 yards....no problem. LIft up and eye that 2 liter at 25 yards....make it bounce....it works that easily.

ANd well it looks that dang cool. :D

P22 3.42"

I've had mine since Sept 2002. Broke it in with 500 rnds of HV first. I really like it, even though it went back for service once (Walrep shaved down top of hammer, was catching; replaced firing pin spring, weak). I now have about 2000 rnds thru it. Two of my colleagues got a couple made in 2003 (AD date code), one 3.42", one 5".
They have seen Zero problems, aside from bad/cheap ammo.

Re: ammo,
Good in my P22:
CCI Std, Greentag, Mini Mags, Stingers, Velocitors
Am. Eagle HV AE5022
Remington Thunderbolt
Remington Bulk Goldens (ok when the primer is all the way around the rim!!! cheapo Walmart stuff)

No Good in my P22 (FTF, FTC, &/or stovepipes):
CCI Blazers
Fed Gold Medal Target
PMC Zappers
Winch HV X22LR
Fed Bulk HP HV, Walmart (not enough charge to cycle)

The P22 is very easy to clean. It is not a target pistol (not even the 5" model), but I did use it to qualify as an NRA instructor.
With a 50 ft std target, shooting offhand with good ammo, a shooter can easily keep 10 shots in the black. A bit tighter is possible from a rest.

I love the P22! Currently, it's in the hands of Walther America for some tuning. The slide would get caught on the hammer periodically and sometimes a FTE. Should be fixed when I get it back (hopefully on Friday).

One thing I really like about my P22 is the recoil. I can shoot a 22/45 and it has minimal recoil, but the P22 gives a realistic recoil. Excellent for cheap practice.

If you don't have a plinker .22 handgun yet, the P22 is great! In my hands, it's more accurate than my Astra 9mm.

(.....and since it has the tactical rail, I just had to get a laser for it! ;) )

EDIT: The only ammo mine doesn't like so far is the Winchester Wildcat HV. Rem Thunderbolts go through it like candy and even Federals go through it quite well.

Got my 1st P22 last year and shot it about 1000 times. It started to either FTF or FTE every round so I sent it to S&W at their expense.

I got a phone call after about 5 days saying my P22 was beyond repair and they were shipping a brand new one out.

I got the new one and still wasn't too impressed. I shoot a .22 so I can do it inexpensively. I want to shoot bulk ammo through my gun -- but that ammo doesn't work to well.

So, I broke out the Dremel and ground down the hammer. I made the P22 a DAO pistol and by cleaning up the hammer, the gun cycles well with cheap, bulk ammo.

I also polished the barrel cover and end piece.

I may even order a new hammer and just cut the spring down, but I kinda like the DAO thing I have going on.

Like mine a bunch, but haven't put the short barrel on. You have to snap a plastic front sight into the slide, since the long barrel has a sight on the fako-compensator. I switched to the larger grip insert. One thing not mentioned above, this gun has a slide-mounted safety that does NOT drop the hammer. Put the safety on, leaving an empty magazine in, and you can dry fire all you want, without having an empty case in the chamber.

I took an IQ test and the results were negative.

Has anyone here tried CCI CB Long's in their P22? I shot 5 through a lever-action rifle the other day, and all I heard was the hammer hitting, and the bullet hitting what was shooting at. VERY quiet...but will they cycle the action on the P22?

At $5/100 rounds, anyone feel like trying them out for me? I can't afford to buy a P22 for a few weeks yet. :(

I love mine... in fact, I've gotten good enough that next year, it will be my primary choice going into the Standard matches of the NRA 3-match competitions..
