I am a new gun owner and have two months till I get my ccp. I currently own a S&W model 469 in 9mm and am debating whether it is the gun that I want to carry. A While ago at a gun store I ran into a beretta 9000s compact in .40 S&W that I thought looked like the perfect carry gun for me. Now I am just looking to see if anyone has any experience with this gun beyond just seeing it because I cant find any good independent reviews of it other than on packing.org. Thanks for the replies in advance

I used to have a 9000S in 9mm, and it was a fine little gun. It was accurate and reliable, and good-looking in a Nike running shoe sort of way. its only drawback is its excessive width for such a small gun, and a slide that is hard to rack because the slide surface is so small.

I'd buy another one, since they are interesting and cheap enough. A lot of people don't care for the 9000S, which is why you can get decent deals on it.

Thanks for the reply Marko. I was thinking I wouldnt get too many replies because I have not found a single person other than you Mr. Kloos who has even held one of these. I guess then I should ask you a couple of questions. First, how is the recoil since it is so light of a gun? Second, you say its real wide. do you think it could be carried iwb well or do you think the width is too much? Again thanks for the reply

I thought I replied to a thread about them a few days ago but maybe that was on the Berettaforum?

I tried hard to like it because on paper it sounds great but found the safety and slide difficult to manipulate.

I couldn't believe how wide the 9000 is. The one I held with the pinky hinged base plate was much better than the one without. I did like it though. Mike

I looked at one not too long ago at the gun shop, because he was selling them cheep. I put it back because it was to wide, the controles where hard to manipulate, and the trigger just wasn't what I thought it should be on a Barretta. That's why I bought the Sig p239:D . Now the Barretta Cougar on the other hand is a different story.

I have a 9000S Type F .40S&W that I picked up new for $350 about 6 months ago.

I fitted 2 of the pinky rest extenders (my gun didn't come with any) and they make a big difference to the way the gun sits in the hand.

The short slide serrations don't cause me any problems as the slide is very easy to rack, and my safety isn't in any way stiff.

Bad points - The DA trigger is looooong (although for a defensive pistol I actually prefer this), and the little sucker is very wide which doesn't make for good concealed carry (not an issue for me here in Maryland unless it's on my own property).

Good points - You get 10+1 rounds of .40 with no need for neutered mags (the 9mm mags are neutered as they would hold 13+1), apart from the width issue the gun is surprisingly compact, it's extremely well made - the slide is a work of art compared to other guns, it's absolutely reliable, and it just looks so durn cool.

I like mine a lot, it gives you enough power to be used as a backwoods carry gun in a fat little fist sized package, and they can be picked up for $330 from the right place.

As guns of the nature/intent go. I think you can do better for the same money. The Beretta 9000 is a chunk of a gun. In a CCW the grip length is the hardest part to conceal as the "general things" go.

As a holster maker I can attest that the thicker a gun is the more uncomfortable to wear it is. The little Beretta's havent taken off like they really could have because of this reason. They are just not designed like I would expect an obvious CCW to be.

If a gun is "That uncomortable to wear"...you wont wear it. Just my thoughts. Ive played with plenty of them...but havent fired one. The gun rags love them from what Ive read.....that pretty much sums it up.

Shoot well.

The gun is a conventional tilt lock pistol, but styled to look like the 92/96. Thus the width. Some other concessions to styling resulted in a rather chunky gun.

I was sitting with some gun writers at a convention and we were making fun of the door prize, a Beretta 9000. As the winning number was drawn, we really began to chuckle as no one was getting up to claim this gun. After a few more remarks, I happened to notice I had the winning number. As I went to claim my prize, I remarked to much laughter that "I guess they CAN give these away."

I like the 9000S...

I feel like I *need:rolleyes: a 9MM.
The Beretta is on my short list. However, I've kinda developed this "thing" for Sigs lately. I think that, for me anyway, the P239 is going to be hard to beat.<Heeeelp, I'm faaaling>
I feel good today, and that is rare. I should go right out and get "my" 9MM.

Hummmm...KR

They're real pretty.

But, man, are they fat in the butt.

I looked at the 9000S about the time I wound up picking up a 6946 (a more modern variant of your 469) from a friend. I really wanted to like the Beretta, but I didn't think it was much of a value even at the (greatly reduced from retail - I guess they're not selling) price. The S&W you own is proven and carries more rounds in the standard mags (both guns, of course, can utilize 15- and 20-round preban mags), and has got to be easier to conceal because it's thinner. And pre-ban full-cap mags for your S&W are cheap and readily available (CDNN).

But if you want a new gun anyway (oftentimes I find that such purchases I make are more "want-based" than "need-based"), the Beretta will probably serve you well.

I have a 9mm 9000s and it performs wonderfully. Hasn't jammed yet. I like it alot, but it hasn't yet replace my Glock 26. If you amenable to DA/SA triggers and want a safety on a small carry gun, this is it. Haven't met anyone who had a .40 yet, but I'm sure I'd like it just as well.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I am gonna have to go look at one again because I dont remember it being too wide and that will make a big difference in whether I get it or not.

I didn't found mine to be wide. It's no wider than a Glock 19 or 26. The 9000s magazine baseplates have a neat flip down finger rest, did you see it? Also, you can get adaptors to use 92/96 series mags. Finally what impressed me was that Beretta finally put dovetailed front sights on these guns (something that they haven't bothered with in the 92 series).

I have never seen one in person, but looking at the picture, it reminds me of the Star Ulrtastar that I used to own. The Ultrastar was too fat for comfortable carry.

I was excited about the 9000s when they first came out. The Italian design studio did a great job. I found out a friend of mine had bought one in 9mm. I persuaded him to loan it to me for the weekend of deer camp. I shot it quite a bit and most all the other hunters there at least handled it, if they did not shoot it. Probably all of us (about 7 hunters) came to the same conclusion that it was way too fat for its size. It was also heavier than we felt it should be. The safety was a bear to manipulate (although it was a fairly new gun). Also it was difficult to strip and reassemble. It shot well enough. Another complaint I had is I kept getting hot brass on the head and down my shirt! It is a nice looking gun, but I decided against purchasing one.
