Considering this for my first blackpowder rifle - to be used for deer hunting. Don't know Jack about black powder or muzzle loaders... any info appreciated.
The Lyman is going to be hard to beat.I know several people that have one and they all say they are great.I thinks its one of the better starter guns out there.
If you are thinking about a flintlock you mihgt take a look at tvm also. They have a great gun that is as close to a custom muzzloader as possible.
I borrowed one from my father-in-law. It was a .54 caliber Lyman with a relatively short barrel. I liked it. The rifling is a slow twist, so use patched round balls.
Good quality and enough weight make it easy to shoot.
Haven't fired it yet, but wife gave me a Lyman Trade Rifle in .50 Flintlock for Christmas. Been too cold to shoot outdoors lately, and the indoor rangemaster hung up when I called to ask about indoor BP shooting....
