I just sold my M&P9c which I shot very well. I bought a beretta 92 to shoot competitions with(I used my M&P9c before) and hate DA/SA.

I decided to stick with the M&P platform because I had a few thousand rounds through my M&P9c but handled a XDM 9mm(I think 4.5" version) at the gun store today and it felt remarkable.

Should I be worried I wont shoot it as well?

I have both. I like both. I shoot both well. If I had to choose one, it would be the M&P.

I can get a M&P standard full size for 425 used(+ overnight shipping) with a couple holsters and 4 mags.

The XDm was 529 plus tax so around 560 with only 2 mags.. I think I can spend the extra hundred and make the M&P better.

The more I think about it it becomes a no brainer but the guy with the M&P is not very motivated to do a non FTF deal and I am getting impatient.

M&P better value IMHO have 9pro and 40c

When I bought my M&P compact it seemed that M&P's were on the high end with XD's on the low and from what I can tell now that has flip flopped.

XD's seem to cost a pretty penny these days and M&P's have dropped in price a bit.

M&P's have dropped in price a bit.

I don't recall the specifics but Smith lowered their pricepoint a while back to compete for more market share. As far as I can tell, the Glock/XD/M&P is Ford/Chevy/Dodge, pick your ergonomic flavor. M&Ps are good firearms, priced better than the competition and made here in the states.

I have an XD9 5" in 9mm. I feel like the S&W is a very similar in quality and value for $$ spent. (I did some side by side comparisons when I was shopping around)

In the end, I chose the XD because of the cocked indicator, loaded chamber indicator, and grip safety, (these were simply my preferences), and the fact that I shot better with the XD overall. The S&W was no less comfortable and has definitely proven to be very reliable.

(Another point that factored in was the fact that SA was offering 3 free mags last holiday season when I was in the market so I have a total of 5 mags, with mag holders and a loader for the price of the gun. Being on the budget and wanting to get into handgun shooting games, this was a very nice way to get started with my necessary supply of mags.)

So, to be concise, I'd probably reiterate what others have said, that neither is a poor choice, really up to what you feels better, gets rounds on target better for you, and is the best value if you need to resell the M&P. I'd hate to see you lose money, when you've already got your hands on a good sidearm, you know? :)

Cheers!

I liked everything about my XD except one thing, I couldn't control the muzzle flip enough to get quick double taps. This was with a XD40 4in Service Model, I have been told that XD has the highest barrel axis of any other poly pistol and that this high barrel axis with the light weight (poly) was the reason for such sharp muzzle flip with the .40. It might be less with the 9mm but myself I would have to shoot it before I bought one in 9mm as I would not want the extreme muzzle flip.

You know you're comparing the M&P vs the XDm. The "m" is a step up in the XD food chain. I would expect the standard M&P to still cost more than the standard XD.

I would choose the M&P though over either version of the XD.

I view the XDs and M&Ps as roughly equal in quality, but I think they're both ugly. The XDm is as pretty as plastic guns get, and ergonomically it equals my M&Ps for me, so the XDm guns may convert me from the M&P.

I sold my XD40-SC a while back, if I ever decided to buy another "fantastic plastic" pistol (which I actually might) I'd have a darned hard time choosing between another XD/XDm and the M&P.

I've only ever shot my XD40-SC and a full sized M&P-9 side by side, so I can't really make a legitimate comparision between the two.

Ive handled both.Shot both. And think both are excellent guns.....but i would pick the XD.

I do know comparing it to the pro would be fair but my point being I can rework the trigger in the M&P and make it better than the XDM or pro trigger and still come out on top with 5 mags vs 2. The mags are an important part to me because it will be used in matches.

The XDm has a 1/4" longer slide which I doubt will do much but the match grade barrel is a nice feature. If the XDm came with 4 mags I think I would make the switch though because that stainless slide had a good look to it and like I said it felt solid.

I prefer the XD and XDm over the M&P. If you're shooting it in competition, may I suggest you send the XD to Powder River Precision in Oregon. I had them do their competition trigger package. I never knew a polymer duty type pistol could shoot so well.

They also sell a kit you can do at home and get fairly close results too.

If competition is a possibility, I would go Glock or M&P since those have established, and rapidly developing aftermarket support, respectively. The XD is behind on that curve, but is trying to break in with the 5.25", which would be their entry into the G34/M&P Pro type market.

I've never shot an XD, but one thing that would give me pause is that high bore axis. Also you'll be limited to ESP division, if that matters to you, shooting an XD in IDPA.

When i first shot a XD i also wondered about the bore axis effecting shot placement but found out afterwards i shot better with it versus a glock. For what its worth i havent felt a polymer gun that didnt feel alittle "top heavy" including the M&P and Glock.

If the gun in question feels good in your hand than i would think it tends to shoot more accurate for that person in most cases IMO.It certainly is true for me.

Oh that high bore axis boogeyman just keeps on showing up, and it must really be frightening....... instead of concentrating on the bore axis, just look at the target and squeeze. I promise you a hole will appear; of course not a nice as a Glock or as big as a 1911, but still a hole.

I at one time had a .40 XD, .40 MP and Glock 22 GenIV. I still have the latter two. My biggest complaint was the 12 round magazines and the adjustable backstrap of the other two allowed a more comfortable grip (large for both). All shoot great though.

When I bought my last pistol I considered the G-21, the M&P .45, the FN FNP-USG and the SA XDm .45 ACP. After evaluating all the features and shortcomings I went with the XDm .45 ACP. I have been very pleased with that decision and would do the same if I had it to do over again. Very accurate, ergonomic and 13 rounds of .45 ACP power. ;)

Ok after some research I decided I am going to buy the xd9 4" with essentials package.. this is my final answer.

Breakdown

Xd 4" service essential package ~370 with free shipping
Springfield promo for 3 extra mags and a mag holster($70 value to me for the mags)
$15 transfer
Canyon Creek Spring Pack for XD & XDm for $25(reduces trigger to around 3.5lbs)

I think I will be a happy camper.

I felt the XD fit in my hand well enough(not better than the M&P) but I would be a fool to pass up this deal XD's are selling for 400 on the used market, I get 5 mags, holster, 2 mag holders and if I need to sell it I should break close to even and get to try a new gun.
