I like my EOTech. The new models with the buttons on the side are more user friendly than the old ones.

I get to shoot my friends AR every time we go out to the range. First time he spend a few minutes sighting it in, and we were plinking a 300 yard steel target most of the time.

Now I'm ruined cuz it means I have to go get one.:p

I really like my Eotech also. I would probably puchase the newer ones with the side buttons like Liquid Tension stated. The new short one with the CR123 battery would probably be a good one to have.

Do NOT go cheap. I tried cheap, and both cheapies were total failures. I will be getting an Aimpoint Micro T1, (sorry, EOTech fans, I like the small size and insane battery life), for my rifle...not an AR.

+1 on Eotech. I bought the Bushnell clone version and had very poor results. Fortunately Optics planet has a great return policy. Then bought the discontinued EoTech with buttons in the rear and Li battery for $350 or so and LOVE IT! Get the discontinued ones, it'll save you $100-150...

Seriously, where were all of you EOtech fans in the aimpoint vs eotech debates that errupt every once and a while. pricey, but you get your moneys worth.

    related question
for the red dots/holographics do you use them stand alone or do you sight them in lining it up with the front site?

im currently using a scope but mostly shoot within 30-50 yards so i wanted to try a reddot possibly an eotech. but my gas block is flat top w/ rail. would i want to buy a front flip up sight for it?

You don't need a flip-up front sight to use any of the reflex optics. You don't use the front sights at all with them.

thats what thought. but if you dont position you head (shoulder the rifle) in the exact same position/alignment everytime it appears your sighting line changes. at the store with an eotech mounted on a rifle, sitting on a bench rest, i moved my head around and the point of aim obviously changed. using just a single point, unlike lining up two points like open sights. you know what i mean?

im not looking for serious accuracy just something for quick easy sight acquisition. my shooting is the equivilent to pop bottles at 50 yards.

and seriously how crappy are the cheaper models?

The cheapos wont last if you are actually in an aggressive environment, glass cracks real easy. You know you get what you pay for. Get the EOTechs or an Aimpoint if you are willing to spend the money. If you want to save some money without losing too much quality, then try the Bushnell Gen II 510023.

Friend of mine trains some of the higher speed military guys.

These sights are really well liked and effective.

Kind of the wave of the future in tactical use.

Makes sense, though I believe in instinct shooting at closer ranges.
    Situational awareness utmost consideration.

Agree on you get what you pay for.

Anyone tried the Mueller reflex sight? I like eotech's, but the Mueller is so much more open. But it is cheaper, so maybe it's junk?

Eotech, put the dot on the target pull the trigger and watch a hole appear as if by magic.

This isn't right, the whole point of a holographic scope (a proper one) is that there is no parallax, you don't need to line anything up just put the dot on the target. You can spray mud on the front glass just leaving a tiny corner to see through and as long as you van see your dot you're away.

    Cheers
