I started twenty years ago shooting an 870 pump for hunting and home defense. Then, I decided I just had to have a semiauto Benelli M1S90 for hunting. Within the last couple years, I picked up an FNSLP Mark I for home defense.

Lately, I have been feeling the tug to get back to a more simple platform. I am half tempted just to sell the Benellis and FNs and go back to 870s.

Anyone go back to a pump gun and where you happy with the choice?

I have collected and used sxs, o/u, autoloaders, pumps, bolts, and muzzleloading shotguns, and i still prefer pump guns to all others. I'll take a wingmaster any day of the week.

I like pumps better than autos for HD. I managed to pick up a Class III Remington 870 SBS and she is pure sexy. Essentially a Wilson Combat border patrol. Also have a HK Super 90 but it stays in the safe since the remy came to town.

I've never owned anything but pumps other then one O/U, but that's for trap shooting where the game favors that action.

For pumps I've owned 2 Mossbergs and one S&W. Never had the itch for an auto.

I use nothing but pumps for hunting, HD, and for competition. For me, and only for me, an autoloader that is 100% reliable is out of my price range. I have read about, and have seen in competition, 11-87 Police models, Mossy 9-series, and even FNs that were malf prone. Some examples of $1000 and less semi-autos may run perfectly, of course, and some Benelli M2s and M4s may stumble. But for me personally I wouldn't bet my life on anything less than a Benelli for HD when it comes to autoloaders. So, for now I'll stay with a pair of 870s. YMMV.

i love a pump. feel that it taught me to make each shot count as i grew up hunting doves and duck. I have a pump for HD but i use an autoloader for hunting purposes now. 100% reliable since i have been using it. its a beretta a-390

Go back? I'm 23 so I've only had 1 and it's a pump. I feel no need for a semi-auto because with my fantastic athletic abilities it takes me longer to re-steady myself from recoil and aim again then it does to rack in another shell.

My first and only shotgun is a Rem 870 Express 12-gauge. I've killed more critters with it than any other firearm I own. I've shot clays with it and done quite well. You get into a rythm with a pump that I couldn't get into with a semi. I found myself dumping the mag with the semi without following through.
Now I'm sure if I owned a semi I'd probably get good with it too.
For the money, as reliable and fast as a pump gun is to operate, I see no need to go with a semi.

I love my Remington 870. I use it for just about anything that I would use a shotgun for. I did pick up an H&R single shot last summer for a truck gun, and I'm thinking about picking up a Saiga 12, but the 870 is still going to be my working gun.

I've mostly owned pump guns. My ex and I had three Remington 1100's at one point, but I traded my two off. As far as I know, she still has hers.

Now I've just got three pumps. Two Sears guns and one Mossberg. The Sears guns are a Mossberg and a Winchester.

I don't shoot shotguns a lot anymore, and all I really used them for in the past was deer hunting with buckshot. Pumps were far and away the most popular action around the hunt club.

I started out with "Pops" old Savage/Stevens Mdl 94B 16-ga, with that light 'tenite' stock set. Kicked like a mule with "Roid Rage". Next was a Rem "Sportsman" 20-Ga like the Browning A5. Last 20 years, I have been using a Maverick 88..i'm not likely to go to something else...the Maverick 'fits' me better than any other shotgun I have used.

As a youngster, 870, bolty rifles, 5-speed manual, recurve bow... Then I hit the EASY button and now... Berretta 391 AUTO, AR15 & M1A, Allison transmission, Mathews DXT... But I still shoot revolvers

Hello all, RON L here

I have owned more Pump shotguns over the years but I have as well owned a few Semi-automatics and yes I did return to a simple pump inthe way of a REM 870 as well, I do like the Mossy 590 as well and the Ithaca 37 clones but right now it's a remmy

Only pumps and break actions for me, and the break actions were all passed down to me from my grandfather.

I have a Winchester 12ga pump w/28 in. barrel and a Mossberg camo 24 in. turkey gun. I was planning on getting a 18 in. pump for home protection, and then I got my monthly sale paper from Midway. !8 in mossberg 500 barrels on sale through the end of Dec. for $75. Can change barrels in about 15 secs.:)

my grandpas ithaca 37 deer slayer took a deer this season like a charm. when the chips are down thats what goes out in the woods with me.

The first gun I purchased myself was a Rem 870 express. I don't hunt birds much, othewise I might have a nice O/U by now, but I really like pump shotguns. I recently got a Saiga 12 for my first auto shotgun. It's going to have to really impress me to trust it as much as the 870 for HD duty.

I've never been beaten by any shooter on a clay range shooting pump. I've been shooting sporting clays for over 20 years now. Pumps are terrific on simo doubles! LOLOL...

Same here. Just own one Remington 870 Express. I've considered a semi-auto and an over/under, but just can't convince myself I need them for anything. I shoot trap, skeet, and turkeys with this gun. If I can shoot skeet doubles with my pump, I feel confident using it for just about anything. I tried a fellow club member's O/U once, and I couldn't stop trying to rack the next shell. I just got very comfortable with my 870. I'll probably have it forever, or until it breaks.

I would imagine there are a good number of shooters out there shooting trap, skeet, and sporting clays with a pump that could give you a run for your money. Just like there are plenty of people with revolvers who could seriously school most of us with semi-auto handguns.
